It sounds like he may be getting bored with fetch. It does happen.
But, you say it is in the afternoon that he is most uninterested, and that walks are perspiration events where you are, so it may very well be that he feels it is just too darn hot for him to go running around in the afternoon, and he'd rather do something more liesurely, like sniff everything. I wouldn't worry much about it, but you may rekindle his interest in fetching by merely doing less of it; in other words, make it a special event. Also, I don't know how you act when you throw the ball for him, but if you are getting bored with it, or are just doing it mechanically, he may read that and also lose interest. So, if you aren't already doing it, show him that you are having a good time also - be enthusiastic. Do you take him anywhere other than the back yard to play (to a park for instance)? Again, this would go to boredom. |
