    Scenting

Even with being down to only one senior dog I had the itch for classes

Rocky started scenting classes last week (We've had two classes). It's a good senior dog sport and even better for food motivated ones. Rocky just has to sniff around and gets treats thrown at him for hitting a box that smells (from his point of view) The class has been good for both of us! I may buy some bins to practice at home especially in the summer when it's hot. He also has to say hi to the teacher in between going to the boxes

Been doing this with Archie at home using smaller sized cardboard boxes. He too is very food oriented and has caught on fast.

I haven’t had time to try nose work yet, but know lots of people who do it with their retirees and love it. I think it’s great for them - works the mind without being too strenuous on aging bodies. Glad you and Rocky are giving it a try!

I was going to wait to get Linus involved with nosework, but I am reading so much about the benefits for younger dogs and competition dogs, also.

Stacey Barnett is a nosework instructor for Fenzi (her classes sell out fast and she will also be at camp and her working spots sold out immediately). She has a good blog and just started a podcast. She also offers webinars and does a lot of seminars around the country. Here is a link to her website where all of this can be found.
