I wish the US hunting labs looked more like him. I see a lot of characteristics of what I prefer in a show style lab, I guess mostly that gorgeous classic head. He just wouldn't be enough for the US ring. not sure what's being shown in the UK but probably not there either. I would take a dog just for performance that looked like THAT in a minute. The chocolate did nothing for me. Light eyes just turns me off the whole package.

I thought Timber had too much neck, especially up by his head, makes him look front-heavy.
Interesting you mention the eye colour....had that discussion with a few people a couple weeks ago. Trigger's breeder has a chocolate bitch with those light eyes. she says no one in her family likes them- too startling. But they do field and hunt stuff....i said well doesn't it help at distance to be able to see what your dog is doing with their eyes...she said they hadnt thought about that, but i would think it would.
My last chocolate had dark eyes, darker than my yellow guy did. And now so does Trigger.

I think any washed out pigment is viewed with less favor. It really matters where the dog is looking when you're standing beside him. You can tell if you look down the plane of his nose and make sure his eyes are still, then you know exactly what your dog is looking at.
