Yay, way to go team Labradorks. However I suggest you change the dork part, clearly does not apply.
We went to, and survived, our very first trial last weekend. Lots and lots of lessons learned, of course! And I am so, so, so very happy with my boys. I could not have asked for a better performance from either of them.
Sam, who is three, won his two Rally Novice classes with scores in the high-90s, earning two legs toward his RN title. His first run on Saturday felt amazing and beautiful and was so much fun and we received a well-deserved 99. On Sunday, we were exhausted and hot, but we pulled a 97 from a tough judge with a sharp pencil. I was thrilled with his performance all weekend, but not surprised. He's such a happy dog and quite a ham! He loved being in the ring and it showed. In the first run he was quick and in the second, kinda slow, but in both classes the following score was in the high 80s, so no timing issues for the big galloof.
Linus, who is just 11 months (I thought he was over a year old before I entered and I keep thinking that! I am terrible with ages and birthdays!), won his two Beginner Novice Obedience classes with scores in the low- and mid-190s, earning two legs toward his BN title. Even though it was "just" a Beginner Novice class, I did not realize how hard and stressful an obedience run was until I went into rally later in the day, and now I kinda get all the tears and vomiting that happens to people beforehand. I actually thought I NQ'ed after a wonderful run (as did my friends outside the ring) because I made a really dumb mistake that I will NEVER EVER EVER make again. I touched my dog before the judge said exercise finished at the very last exercise because I was so excited that it was over and he performed so well. So, when we were called into the ring as a qualifier and then won the class with a 195.5, I was thrilled! I was also so emotional with the happiness, surprise, relief, and stress of it all, that I even cried a little. Sunday was a bit rough with the heeling and distractions with his friend doing utility in the adjacent ring, but he performed the rest of the exercises perfectly and we pulled a 192. In both classes, we were the only Lab (so was Sam -- we represented!!!), the youngest by far, and our scores were 10 or more points higher than the next place. He was really amazing!
I just really love my dogs and their eagerness to please and work for me. I feel really blessed to have such amazing boys. I know it's a lot of work, money, time, and commitment on my end, but I have to give them credit for being the great dogs they are and for their big hearts. And for making me laugh when most people would be stressed. How can you not smile at those happy and goofy Lab faces?
I'm hoping to title the boys in a few weeks at another show. If all goes well, Linus will title on his first birthday, which I didn't realize until after I entered. During the next show, I'm taking Linus in Rally Novice, and hope to title him in that before the end of the month as well. Then, we are finished with shows and matches for the summer and I will work on Sam's sit and stand for exams (his achilles) and Linus' heeling. I'm also going to work with Linus and take lessons this fall so he can also get his WC next Spring.
