    First Novice A

We did our first Novice A trial yesterday, and everything was going well until the stays. Brooks got up with about 10 seconds left during the sit/stay. We had only lost 7.5 points up til then. He did pretty good on the stand for exam, losing 2 points for moving his feet a bit, 3.5 points on heel on leash and figure 8, 1.5 on the heel free, and .5 on recall.

Here's a video a friend took of our run.

Nice job especially for a first attempt! Be careful about looking back too much at him on the heeling- that sometimes encourages the lagging. Overall though he looked pretty good for a Novice A dog going in for the first time. Love to see a smiling, happy worker!

By the way, who was the judge? I don’t think I recognized her ...

Linda Morris. Provisional judge, she only did Novice and Beginner Novice at this show.

Novice can be TOUGH!! Jed and I are still working on it. He has his UKC CD, but only 1 leg of his AKC CD and not for lack of trying...he's got more NQ's than anything else! His problem is the recall. But we are going to try to fix that in training this summer.
