I think we have talked about this before, but my Mia and Ally and Miley go back to Spencer (Naiken Indian Temple) too, and I am friendly with Madeline whom imported him. He was such a nice boy, and so many US breeders used him in their programs for the better. She did a nice frozen breeding on him a few years ago and kept a nice male.
Agree with Dxboon about how nice your girls are Anne, and how strange it is to see you with the yellow Honey buns!

One of the biggest complaints I hear from people I train with is how master tests are starting to resemble field trials, and the tests are much harder than they were X number of years ago. Some of the things they describe that the dogs have to do seem ridiculous to me. One in particular is a diversion bird thrown basically at the dog as they are returning from a retrieve. I honestly was pretty skeptical about this, until we start setting these up as part of train for those running master dogs. I honestly can't ever see a real hunting situation where a bird would be shot anywhere near where a dog is making a retrieve.
I agree. There are some judges who set up cheesy tests... The diversion should be within the dog's line of sight on the return, not at his feet. Another cheesy thing they do from time to time is the wipe out bird. I believe a stupid diversion is easy to train for (kinda relates to the FF) and the wipe out is something that's good to train on, but stupid to test on.
The bottom line is the items in the HT Rule Book that make it hard for the HT's to become FT's. So instead of using distance to determine which dogs are at the top of the heap, a HT judge has to use terrain, wind, cover in ways that present challenges a person might see in hunting.
Regardless, labs just totally own the retriever field sports. I don't think it's ever going to be right that the should do so in the ring. But I want to see them do as well, on average, as the other breeds.
