Not a big deal considering but Chloe got a new title

We competed in Rally Novice at Potomac and she went 3/3 with perfect scores each time to earn her RN. Given her level of training, that's not a shock - the only question going in was whether I would screw things up or not. I did have a moment 2 out of the 3 days where I briefly panicked about where the next sign was, but figured it out before I could go off course, LOL. I also had my trusty app ringside so I could double check on what the signs were before going in. If anyone here does Rally, I highly recommend the Pocket Rally App.

She really enjoyed it too - the first day she was like "what the heck is happening?", the second day more "oh, okay", the third day she got really happy when she saw the signs and was like "I got this!".

Going to try for her Versatility title next (that's 2 exercises each from Novice, Open, and Utility in the same class), and then move on to Rally Advanced. With the young dogs coming up needing my attention, and her getting older, I really can't keep her Obedience training up at the level she would need to remain competitive in the B classes, but at the same time she isn't ready to stay home on the couch, so I'm trying to find things to compete in that won't take TOO much additional training - most of the Rally moves are things we do as "doodling" in Obedience - fun little exercises to keep up their attention while heeling. I'd love to try Nosework but that would involve additional classes and time.

Rally should be good for her, as she should be solid on pretty much anything you'll see in the ring. I've always been the weak link in the Rally ring, costing points for no reason. I should have had perfect scores on several occasions.

Will Chloe pick up real birds? You could always try for a Junior Hunter title!!

Good girl Chloe. Is there an equivalent to CARO in the U.S.? CARO has Working Level which you can go into after obtaining the Advanced. It has way more action and diversity in it. Oban seemed to really like it and I had hopes of him being the first Lab to title in it. But then he hurt his leg and it has jumps and running and twisting. Maybe you and Chloe would like it?

Sounds like she had a good time and that's what's most important to her anyway. The title is just the icing on the cake. Great job!

After Advanced there is Excellent and Masters, but I'm not sure what the signs are like for those yet - one step at a time! There's only 1 or 2 jumps with a max height of 16 inches (she's been jumping 22 so 16 should be okay for her as she ages).

We did her to a field training day when she was a year old, but the problem we had with her was she loses her soft mouth when she gets excited so she was crunching the bird. Now that she is almost 10 and her teeth are getting worn, LOL, I could probably work with her on a proper hold but fieldwork is tough because the only groups I know of to train with are either far away or only train on weekends (when I am most likely at a match or trial).

I really, really want my husband to try field work with the dogs - even just at the Junior level. I think he would enjoy it and the fresh air would do him some good. Cookie in particular would LOVE it. Sass's retrieve tends to disappear when she gets excited (we call it party of one - she brings it back until just barely out of reach and dances in circles - she's slowly getting better but when she first gets out still does it for a few minutes until she calms down). I can work her through that (she retrieves a dumbbell in the ring perfectly) but I'm not sure he is firm enough with her to get it done, LOL.
