    Dogtra ecollars

Has anyone had any experience in training their dogs with an ecollar? I have a 4 year old male lab named Luka and a 4 year old male border collie mix named Trae and they recently completed an 8 week behavior course at k9 Behavior Services with Jeremy Talamantes in Fillmore, CA. This behavior camp HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES. I cannot speak enough praise about his services. Our dogs had issues with aggression and dominance prior to us sending them to Jeremy which was costing us thousands of dollars in vet bills.
When Luka and Trae came home last week we had a 2 hour training session with one of the main trainers in our home educating us on their new commands and how to use an ecollar. Once I got over the stigma of using one these and actually felt the "shock" they emit (yes, i strapped that thing to my arm to see what it feels like to be 'Nicked') I felt ok with using the collar. After doing my own research I am feeling more and more comfortable with using them for training purposes.

Does anyone have any personal experience with using these collars? Any thoughts/tips/suggestions are much appreciated.

Yes. I have a two year old rescued Lab/Shepherd mix who I got when he was 1 1/2 years old. He was horrible! He chased our cats continually. He ran away several times. I enrolled him in basic obedience class that uses the reward-only training and I found out that he is very intelligent. But I couldn't trust him. He had to be on leash 24/7 unless he was in our back yard. After completing basic training I hired a professional trainer that uses the Dogtra e-collar. The turnaround was nothing short of amazing! Within just one lesson he was no longer trying to chase the cats, he knew his "place" and would stay until released. As the lessons progressed he learned more and more. Just the other day we were out in the front yard for hours--I was planting flowers and my husband and son were in and out moving furniture. He never strayed from the yard. He comes when he's called. He and (most) of our cats are, well not best buddies, but they get along. Also, I've found that he actually heels better off leash than on--and we don't use the collar any longer. We only used it for the training part. He listens and obeys.

I had to involve our trainer in help with using an e-collar last year. Maxx had decided he needed to take off, dragging me behind, after Amish horse and buggies. It scared me to death and was a disaster waiting to happen. I have never used an e-collar before and was worried, all for nothing. He responded beautifully and has not tried to chase again for over a year. I would not hesitate to use one again, if necessary. I do think it is very important to have professional help if you have never used this type of training tool before.

I hope your training continues to pay off for you.
