Congratulations!!!!
After these last couple of weekends, I'm still waiting for someone to pinch me and to wake up, LOL!...
On the 18th, we traveled down to Woodbury, MN for the North Star LRC of MN's first Sanctioned A Match. All of our girls showed well and it was a lot of fun! Our second Bred By girl Pink (Kinderwood N Hayshaker's Funhouse, co-bred with Sherry Geurts of Hayshaker Labradors) won the Bred By class and came away with Best of Breed!! All 4 of our girls then passed their Eye exams and Pink passed her Cardiac. Double Yay!!
This last weekend, we managed to build Majors for all 3 days in Sioux Falls, SD. Steve & I were pretty tired on Friday (the 24th) running on only about 2 hours of sleep, and the girls unfortunately fed off of that. We managed a couple of nice placements, but lacked the real pizzazz to be competitive that day.
On Saturday (the 25th), Pink won the Bred By class, Piper (UKC CH Hayshaker's Kinderwood Charmed One CD PCD RA CGC) amazingly took the Open Black class, and Faith (UKC CH Hayshaker Kinderwood Where R U Xmas CD RN) as the only entry in her Open Chocolate class was back in the ring for Winners with the other two. I stayed on Piper because she tends not to do well for others, so Steve took Faith, and we reluctantly handed Pink off (hate handing our Bred By girls off, lol!). We had been hunting for Faith's last Major for 3 years since she got her first points (a 5 point Major) on this very show weekend. After that first Major she singled out quickly and even garnered multiple Breed wins to her credit. It's just been a bad combination of lack of Majors, being the token Chocolate/odd man out or other politics at play for that last 3 years. We'd all but given up on finishing her (at least by ourselves) several times and had considered sending her out with a Pro (several had approached us & offered), but Steve was pretty adamant that we'd gotten all the rest of her points and wanting to finish her ourselves- if we could. Thank goodness for our dear friend Sherry who was there when our faith wavered at times, because we would have likely given up if not for her encouragement (and the occasional good, swift kick in the rear, LOL!) when we needed it. However, we finally agreed to enter her to help build the Majors for this weekend. We only entered her the first 2 days as Sunday's judge was the one who'd given her the other Major, so she literally had this one last shot on this day. My knees just about gave out on me when I saw the judge pull her to the front. She sent us all around again and all I could do was pray there wasn't a last minute switch. When she finally pointed to Steve & Faith for Winners, I couldn't believe it! We'd finally finished our first AKC Champion- and we did it all ourselves which made it feel even more the better!! Steve & Faith hurried back into the ring for Breed and topped off their big finish with Best of Opposite Sex over a Special (Champion)!! I don't think I saw straight for the rest of the day. My eyes were so blurry from being a blubbering mess, LOL! Faith is now Am/UKC CH Hayshaker Kinderwood Where R U Xmas CD RN!
On Sunday, I think we were both still so deliriously high on cloud nine that we didn't care what happened in the ring that day. We were more than happy to share the wealth. However, as if finishing Faith wasn't enough (or as if she felt slighted, lol), Mocha (Kinderwood Peppermint Mocha) took the Bred By class with Pink on her heels and Piper took the Open Black class again. Since Steve was already on one of Sherry's girls, I had another choice to make- hand off Mocha or Piper. I decided to stay on our Bred By girl this time as I knew, of the two, Mocha would show even worse than Piper for someone else. I was in total shock when the judge pulled Mocha & I out and gave us Winners! That was her 2nd Major, but I couldn't even think about it as I had to race to swap Mocha out with Pink for Reserve. I thought there was nil chance that Pink would get the Reserve since Mocha had taken Winners, so it wasn't until the judge was practically pointing in my face that I finally realized we'd done it, LOL! I was in such a state of utter disbelief and shock! Mocha took the Major and is now only 3 single points away from finishing her AKC Championship, and Pink took her 2nd Major Reserve being only 19 months old. What a Breeder's Dream!! Mocha also got Owner Handled BOB. Nothing in OH Group, but she showed as well as she could after a long weekend and that's all I could ask of her.
It was incredibly fun! It was especially fun to show Piper (our eldest) this last couple of weekends. She had made it pretty clear in the past that Conformation was not her cup of tea, but she's decided to be a spring chicken these last couple of weekends and it's been amazingly fun since she's been having so much fun!
We left Sioux Falls with one new Champion and a second who is inches away. Still waiting to wake up from this absolutely amazing dream, but Cloud Nine sure feels nice for now!!
