Have fun! The first few weeks can be hard because you are reading and learning signs so don't be surprised if you go left when it says right, or sit when it says down. Everyone goes through it and it gets easier!

This is so true! Have fun and remember that, even in competition, talking to your dog and even a do over on a sign station are allowed.

I found that the list of signs in the AKC regs helped me study.

We had a good time at class, and Bruce did pretty well. It was an hour car ride to the venue, all new smells, people, and dogs, so it was distraction hell for him. He didn't focus on me as well as he normally does, but he wasn't as bad as I thought he would be. Despite studying the signs which I downloaded from the AKC website, and practicing a lot of the behaviors here in the yard, I had a hard time with a few signs. It will definitely be good for both of us to work on new things and deal with heavy distractions.

On a side note, I was the only male human in the class, which I thought was kinda odd. I guess Rally isn't a guy thing??!!!!!

Sounds like fun! You can also Google YouTube videos if you are ever unsure about a sign. I think there are some official AKC videos so you know for sure it is correct.

Oh gosh, I can count all the men that have been in my rally and obedience classes on one hand!

glad you guys had fun! and yes, there aren't nearly as many men in rally or obedience in my area as there are women.
