We finished the session of six Rally classes last Wednesday. I'm happy to say Bruce did really well, and I probably learned more than he did!! Our instructor, and her assistant both were disappointed Bruce would not be able to do the Rally Trial being held at their site (Wilmington Kennel Club) the first weekend March. They both felt he would pass his Novice legs. Unfortunately I'm heading to the UK for 2 weeks next month, going to Cruft's and visiting with my daughter.
So we will have six weeks off til the next round of classes, and I plan on really working on his weak areas, standing, and backing up at heal being two of them.
A quick brag. During one of the classes, the instructor wanted us to attach the lead to our belts and be hands free while running the course. One of the other students ran their dog off leash (a standard poodle with a Junior Hunter Title!!). When my turn came I asked if I could do it off leash, and she said yes. Bruce did a great job will all the behaviors, plus the distraction of all the dogs in the class next to the ring, plus another class of puppies doing basic training next to us!! I was so proud of him!!!!!!

Way to go Bruce! We were at a feed store yesterday with a puppy class going on and i had to leave Thor in the truck. I admire Bruce's restraint!

Good job!
Are there matches you can go to before your trial to work out any kinks?
A match is like a practice trial. It's usually $5-$10 a run and you can do multiple runs. It's casual. There's a judge who may score you, guide you when you need it, and give you overall feedback. Usually the judge is a trainer though sometimes they are licensed judges. It gives you the opportunity to practice in a similar environment as a trial with a walk through, strange dogs, strange place, multiple rings, etc. I feel line it's invaluable. Had I walked into a show without going to many matches I would've spent all of my energy in figuring things out!
