    Is there a general consensus...

Among the people who visit this board, is there are consensus as to what to think about the "Silver Lab" situation?

I swear they look way more like Weimers than they do washed out chocolates.

A sticky in the Fire Hydrant forum will explain the consensus, as you call it.

That article was extremely helpful. Off and on the AKC is adds breeds that can compete in Hunting Retriever Tests. An AKC rep recently told us that they were adding miniature poodles. (I'm serious as a heart attack.) Although it is true that a couple of standards have achieved MH status, I don't think any have completed the Master National. But from time to time they talk about adding Vizlas and Weimers. So why futz around with a "silver lab". Just get a Weimer to start with.

    It truly is crazy.

TuMicks- not sure if you saw this.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Roslin-Williams on several occasions. Silver Labs were discussed.

Yes, the general consensus is that they are mixed breeds. High priced designer dogs.

They have labradoodles. Why not just call Silvers Weimerdors or labmaraners. Honestly, I think Weimers are fabulous dogs and if I were going to go outside the labrador family, that's what I would probably get.

It's all about the marketing. Labradoodles were purposely bred to produce a trainable, non-shedding dog. Silver labs appeared by accident, most likely, and then some opportunistic breeder decided to sell it at a high price vs. realize his mistake and sell them without papers.
