Oban understood STAY quickly, for some reason, so no help there. But it seems how I was taught to teach back heeling was a bit different. I'd say it was luring but it was more like pushing. Treat in hand, in front of his nose, below his normal head level, push in to his chest, he steps back, treat. In a very short time he was moving back easily. Transitioned to delay in treat, hand over his head, move back. We only went back 3 steps then immediately forward and of course we got to the point where the treat was given after the forward. Then no treat but hand still over head. This is where I might have been able to speed up a bit but I kept using my hand till finally our trainer said, "Why are you still doing that?" I thought Oban wasn't ready but the little devil heeled backwards very nicely without it. Maybe me going so slowly was a benefit. Oh, and nearly all of us, in my class, said BEEP, BEEP, BEEP for backwards heeling. I don't know why we can say it three times, like a backing up truck, but we can, even in a trial.
