I like Suzanne Clothier's dog advice. I especially like: He Just Wants To Say | Suzanne Clothier
But back to "Even Though" I have to say one of the strongest and one that is hard to train for is favourite people. Because I have to train the people too and sometimes they are harder than the dog. Even though your favourite neighbour just came out her front door you and I are still going to get in the car. Even though she is walking towards us (well really towards her mailbox) we are still going to get in the car. Even though she has just noticed you and is coming to pet you we are still getting in the car. Ok, we'll get in the car in a couple of minutes.
intresting. also read the connection little blurb - is there info on exactly how to get there though?

Yes, yes, yes ... a thousand times yes!!!!!
Whenever I hear someone make an excuse for why their dog didn’t do whatever it was it was supposed to, my thoughts are they should learn to do it “even though”. At one trial, my then 11 year old DD was stewarding and I heard a woman say “Oh, my dog won’t be able to do a figure 8 with a kid steward - that’s just not fair”. Well, the judges response, was “if that’s going to bother your dog, you have some more training to do”. It’s not as if my DD was behaving in any way different than an adult steward, so the dog needs to learn to heel “even though” the steward was a kid.
I have been known to say to Chloe “I don’t care if ______, you still need to _______!” on many occasions!

All of Suzanne's "even thoughs" plus... uh, anything in Rocket-dog's environment. Oh, look... a leaf! But this particular blade of grass is the one I want to eat. Ah ha!!! I see Rip was here and left a pee-mail. Happy, happy, joy, joy!!! Gunfire!
Big sigh.
I'm working my way through this book and getting some insight.

Love that book. I was going to mention it in my post above, I should have. Because Tanya's question is good, Suzanne Clothier provokes thought but some real help would be nice. The "Look at That" games in Leslie McDevitt's book really, really helped us. Another "even though" for us is the big, black dog who charges his fence at us. I can get Oban by without answering back if I work the "Who'zat dog" which is our Look at That.
haha my friend just returned my controlled unleashed book - need to dig that up and re-read.
i also need to re-do the Recallers program (susan garrett) and run thru the exercises again.
