Thanks Jen. It took almost 6 classes for me to realize we were doing advanced and excellent moves. I kept thinking, wow, a novice dog has to do this! I went to the AKC website and discovered all the signs, and that's when I realized half the stuff we were doing was above the novice level. I do think it's good to challenge both myself and Bruce, plus it gives me things to work on.

It's smart to work on the higher level stuff. The Novice signs are easy and you'll see them in the higher levels too. Our instructor did both Novice and Advanced and some Excellent thrown in. Seriously, you guys look ready!!! I was so worried about moving Grizz up and then I saw a lady with her dog in Advanced and when the judge said Are you ready, and they started, the dog did butt scoots all over the place and they had to leave the ring. I felt bad, but I knew Grizz wouldn't do THAT!!!

When I showed horses, we only went in the ring when we were already training in the upper levels. In rally when you are training the higher levels, when you go into the ring for novice, it actually feels easy (the course, anyway). Most trainers use courses with mixed signs, at least I think they do(?). Sometimes there are tricks in the pattern, but if you are in Novice A they really should be encouraging you to keep going, not make a course so hard that you never come back! The toughest course we did was one in which there was a spot in the course where it looked like you were going to leave the ring. It was hot and outside right in the beating sun. Just awful. No dogs left the ring, but Sam thought about it because he wanted to run to the shade.

wow, what focus! you guys look great! yes, if you can get to a match before hand, or even inbetween trials, that would be helpful, but if you guys to that at the trial, you'll have your title in no time!

Nice job! Definitely look into matches in your area too. We were lucky to have 2 w/ our club this spring-- one indoors and one outdoors this past Sat. 70 dogs won't be bad but if you plan to do any all breed shows/ trials, the atmosphere can be more "fun". Also are you training for outdoor shows too?

I plan on doing what ever is close enough to get his titles. We do 99% of our training outside, so I doubt it would really matter to Bruce. It there any differences in the courses indoors vs. outdoors??????

I haven’t done much Rally, but the rings tend to be a little bigger outside in general, and in terms of heeling, even if the course is the same it is still more difficult to get footwork right outside just because of lumpy ground.
