I appreciate the kind words of encouragement. I'm very competitive, and I don't mind getting beat, but I do mind losing. If anything this just makes me want to dig in and kick ass the next time ! Trust me, I'll make sure I get it right.

Here's a video of our run. It was the first two signs that got us.

I know what you mean. I pulled into the trial yesterday after driving 140 miles (and did not get into the obedience part of it which was very disappointing), and found I had a Doodle in front of us in Rally Adv. Boy did my competitive spirit kick in... we were NOT placing behind a designer dog, and further I was upset as fast as the obed part filled (it was a breed specialty club), that they allowed All American dogs. Later I found out that not only that, but *7* of the teams in obed were absent! How rude for those of us who try to make our gas stretch. At least I had my Golden friend riding w/ me and both of us got a Q. She was the one who also cost her girl 20 pts!

I know how you feel. We place behind a dog and handler who could barley find their way around the course. Several other competitors came up to me and said they couldn't believe we placed behind that dog.

Oh well, such is life in the dog world!!!!

I can assure you we will be back and ready to go! (or kick ass and take names!)

great start to a new career in dog sports!
i cost Scout 10 pts in both our Excellent and Advanced runs yesterday, would have been in the low 90 and high 80 otherwise! just made me more determined today! Read the signs as you come up to them, and i count out loud (and say it AND use my fingers on anything with cones and weaving!) on anything with a repetitive component.
we are starting to see a few more guys competing in both Rally and Obedience up here, but it is still by far the majority women.

Sometimes a wave of some ESP communication seems to pass through the dogs and they all do unusually wrong things. In our first trial the Advanced class went first and an older BC with an older owner/handler who was very experienced would not sit. The next dog would not sit, nor the next, nor either of the two GSDs a lady in my training class had entered. Maybe it was where the station requiring a sit was located, maybe something on the floor had not been thoroughly cleaned. Though I did not see any sign of distraction from the door nearby or the floor. Sit of all things, probably the first thing any dog learned and the one thing they do most often in day to day life.
