    Bruce's first rally trial

Well, Bruce and I did our first Rally trial, and I'm happy to say leg 1 is done. Bruce did great, he lost no points. Now for me, I lost 20 points. I messed up the call to front and finish left and proceed. I told Bruce to sit, which he did, which was also wrong. 10 points lost. The next sign was 1 step halt, 2 steps halt, 3 steps halt. Bruce nailed it. Me, I couldn't count to 3. Took 1 step, then 2 steps, then 2 steps. 10 more points lost. Had I not screwed up, we would have been either first or second, based on time difference as there was one other 100 point score. The judge even felt bad about it. She said for a first effort for we did really well. I was just sorry I let Bruce down. Overall, I'll still call it a success.

Even with the disappointment I really enjoyed it, and Bruce did too. I'll get signed up for a few more shows close to us, and we will hopefully get a few titles this year. I did have several people come up and rave about what a good looking boy Bruce is. I also met a lady who is part a hunt test training group which is fairly close by, and I'm going to start working on that training too.

Also, I think my man card may be revoked, as I was the only male competitor there. Yes, just me. I think there were maybe 4 guys total at the event.

Congratulations! For your first time out, I'd call it a success! And, Bruce has no idea, so don't worry about that. As long as he had a good time, that's all that matters. And, I'm sure he did.

Our trainer always tells us to COUNT OUT LOUD any time there is a sign that says to do something X number of times. When you're nervous or distracted, it makes a huge difference, especially.

Four men is a lot. There are usually one or two where I am, even at the bigger events!

Congratulations Bruce! I know the first-time I ran a hunt test I was so nervous I nearly sent my dog before the judge released us. Don't worry about the man card, you have a Lab. The other guys are just jealous.

Congratulations! Getting out there and having fun is the most important part.

How refreshing to see a man out there. Been to several events and have only seen 2 men with their dogs, labs or course. Speaks volumes to me about their dedication to their dog.

If Bruce did well that's the main thing. You taught him well and it's easier to retrain YOU than it is the dog. At our first trial everyone was marvelling at our instructor. Because we all did so well? Nope, because in her class she missed a whole station.

There have always been a few men at our training and trials. It was the same in agility. And in horseback riding where I have always wondered where the men predominant on the national show jumping teams came from, cause the women sure are more numerous elsewhere.

I do not think you let Bruce down. You qualified as a team your FIRST time in the ring with a young dog. That is worth a brag! Congratulations!

CONGRATS!!!! One leg down. Don't worry about the points. When its all over, the scores will be forgotten but the title will remain!! Grizz doesn't care that his last RA leg was a 78! He cares that he got the bully stick as a prize!!!
