Six days to RA for Kanzi

She had done her RN in 3 days at 6mos and 8 days old. On Sat (14 mos), she debuted in both Rally Advanced and Beg Nov B (my first time to do that class) at our local all breed club shows/ trials. In Rally, we were plugging along great until we had a halt/stay-- one step right-- call to heel/ halt. There was sand there for fill and for some reason she was like, "I don't think so!". LOL. So I re-did the station a little bit further from the sign (judge told me to try to avoid the sand!). Ended up w/ a 97 and first place for our first leg. Beginner Novice obed went well for another first place, 196.5.

On Sunday, she wasn't quite as on target but did get a 95 in Rally Adv, also good for first. By the time we did Beg Nov B, I wasn't on MY game and had a light head from not eating and the heat (it was ~90F that weekend), so made a handler boo-boo on the Sit/ Stay/ walk around that cost me 3 pts. Final score was 193.5 and just out of the blue by 1 point.... DARNED HANDLER, LOL!!!

We were entered on Friday at a Sheltie Club specialty at one of my favorite locations in W. WA. I chose that show/ trial as I couldn't enter the big shows in Puyallup since one of our kennel club members was judging Rally and obed and I had taken a short course on the Beg Nov class from him in March/ April. There is a 6mos no show rule when you take a class or otherwise train under a judge w/in 6mos of the trial. My long time Golden retriever friend also entered, and though I didn't get into the obedience trials w/ my girls, we both got into the Rally trials. So a road trip it was w/ Kanzi and Journey.

Warming up, Kanzi felt spot on. Then someone w/ 2 Newfies walked in... and Kanzi did a stress yawn seeing them. We had had a Newf in our Beg Nov class who broke away from his handler and jumped her in the ring and I think she associated them w/ that dog. And then I spotted the dog in front of us... a Doodle. GAME ON!!! We could not let a designer dog (the Newf owner's friends in the class also had Goldendoodles, one of which had screwed around as well) beat us!!! LOL. It wasn't the best focus for Kanzi, and we got midway thru the course to a back corner where it was a Halt, Right about turn station. For some reason, she sat wide and crooked and seemed off, so I backed up for a retry and all was fine. At ribbon time, the score for 1st was announced as a 97 going to team 2301. We were 2302. DANG.... but where was the Doodle? The judge looked at me and said "that was you!". I said no, I'm 2302. Her mistake-- the Doodle team NQd! YEA Kanzi!!! That was for her RA title. In 6 days.

Now onto Excellent I guess since my instructor for that (a UKC judge) made us learn all the signs this past winter. I had started teaching the class in January, and then she took over once Roxy was due to whelp, so Kanzi and I rejoined the class as students in March/ April. Next trials won't be for 2mos, but I'm already looking forward to it as I hope to have Kanzi ready for Nov B obedience by then too. We'll wait to finish the BN in September, that way she can stay in Exc A Rally since I'm pretty green at those signs! Anne and WindyCanyon Kanzi RA

Congratulations! Check the revision on the instruction rule for future reference; it is not as strict now, I believe. (Chapter 1, page 8.). The Windycanyon girls deservedly make you proud.

Oh, so now it's only 30 days?? Thanks for pointing that out as he sure did not. We would have been able to eek by on that one by ~1wk, but oh well, not worth it as he tends to get uptight about anything like that. We used to do the occasional run thru together and he felt I should not even enter under him at all at that time! LOL.

Ruby, the 4mo old, seems to think Kanzi won all the toys for HER though! LOL. She really likes that cow toy as it has a plastic bottle or something inside that scrunches. Gotta love obed/ rally trials for that since I rarely buy toys anymore!

Looks like just in the past year maybe? I remember the same guy last winter saying "you can't show under me if you take my course".
Good thing as I wonder.... how do you all interpret the regs if say Annette, you sell a pup to an AKC judge who you've enjoyed showing under the past 15+ yrs? I know w/ hunt tests, it's not a problem. Would it be a problem for obed? Just 6mos restriction once sold?
