    Good obedience videos?

I'm hoping that someone might know of a good YouTube channel to find videos of obedience trials and even maybe some higher level rally trials (doesn't matter if they're AKC, UKC etc). I'd like to find something where the video is clear, not too many (if any) people blocking the view of the handler and dog throughout the video, and where I can hear the judge and handler speaking. The reason I ask is that I think seeing how other people work with their dogs helps me to get a better picture of how I can handle my own dogs... but I'm finding that I'm sifting through a lot of videos trying to find something like what I described.

I did that too, sorry didn't bookmark any. But I got far more information from watching others in our classes, and going to a trial to watch, without my dog. What was really helpful was the comments of others watching with me. If such things are not too far away for you I suggest you'll learn more in real life observation. At the very least try to watch beginner classes on videos. Watching someone proficient (obedience, olympic diving, whatever) tends to make things look easy. For me, I think I get more from seeing other people's mistakes so I can hope to avoid them. Yeah, and then I go make brand new mistakes.

I'd recommend following Denise Fenzi's blog and Facebook. She is really down to earth and active online and super helpful. She also shows mistakes (bad handling, errors, things she wished she'd done differently -- "here's where you can learn from my mistake"). She has OTCHs, etc. but she is now training a terrier mix rescue for obedience as it is a challenge and she feels it will help more people. I totally commend her as the other big trainers get dogs that are pretty much guaranteed to do well in the ring (with experienced trainers). She has those, too, don't get me wrong, but she is aware that not everyone has a ringer of a dog or her experience in training. Many of the people on her FB submit videos as well so you can see "normal" people training and competing (many do really well, but people also feel safe showing bad handling, mistakes, NQs, etc.) and getting feedback. It's very supportive and real. She has some books and then a ton of free stuff online in addition to some free e-books. You can take her classes and she is always open to answering questions and does so within 24 hours -- regarding her books, methods, etc.

I do like Janice Gunn's videos and have a few myself. But, she rarely returns emails and only posts occasional pictures of her achievements online and does not have an active blog or FB account. It's frustrating that you'll spend $50 on a video and if you need clarification, she typically will not reply. She does have a lot of good videos online, though. I like her "on the pot" video a lot. I used to like Bridget Carlson, but she recently held a seminar in the area and let's just say she made Cesar Milan look like the Mary Poppins of dogs. Even traditional trainers walked out or did just did not go back the next day. Such a disappointment. Forest Mickey is another trainer that people like (can't say that I have had much experience with his stuff though).

I'll definitely look for her on facebook! I think these type of videos sound most like what I'm looking for. I had a discussion with one of my trainers, and told her that I notice in watching videos of myself vs people who have more experience during trials that they just look more smooth, and fluid. Even now when I'm not all that nervous in the ring, I LOOK like I'm nervous. Other people, including judges tell me to relax, even though I just don't feel anxious like I used to. My trainer said that when she first started rally, and was battling anxiety in the ring, she found it helpful to collect course maps, and just sit somewhere quiet, and imagine herself doing the whole course perfectly with her dog. She said she would do that a ton before trials, and even when she didn't feel as at ease, she would look at the course map after she walked the course, and imagine everything going perfectly, and she moved with much more confidence. So, basically, I think the videos will help me to know what to even imagine myself looking like! I probably sound half nutty, but I just think it will help me!

Not uncommon at all! There are some ring nerves classes and I've heard of people being helped by hypnotherapy.

One thing I've found helpful is to do run throughs with my perfect dog (i.e., a pretend dog) so that I can focus on myself. I do it at matches occasionally and mostly when practicing with friends who are confident fake judges.

The other thing we do is always make sure we have a plan in the ring. How will you get from exercise to exercise? What will you do if the judge makes you wait? How will you react if you dog does A, B or C?
