Labrador won't do as told but understands

He's 2.5 years old. He knows get it, sit, speak, toilet, lie down, down, drop(what's in his mouth), come here, stay, walk, heel, and a few others.

He does sit 99% of the time. He will speak but only after being told 3 or so times and he will start soft and increase volume the more I tell him to do it.

    He lies down okay.

But when I tell him to get something he won't 95% of the time unless it's his food which I've taught him to wait for my command.

It's got to the point where he sometimes won't even come to me.

He's still otherwise generally well behaved such as not coming inside unless told and he will always come inside or go outside when told.
So he listens but doesn't feel like doing much.

The only odd thing is everyone gives him treats even visitors, could this be the reason or is it just part of his personality?

I have found this happens during adolescence (7-12 mos or "so") here, but as soon as I raise the training expectations a notch, they are much more in tune w/ me. Could it be he's just bored, and not stimulated enough? Maybe try some classes? Anne

LOL, a teen lab. Back down to puppy training 101, or as far as you need, and reinforce in a positive way, rinse, repeat. All of mine, and they have been mostly seniors, get bull headed occasionally. I'm quick to correct.
