Glad today went well, and after your misadventure the other day, I think letting him have success in Novice was definitely for the best. There will be other days to try Advanced. As for the leaving the ring not being an automatic NQ, that’s interesting - I was kind of wondering as I always thought it was, but I have seen even in the B classes in Obedience a few occasions where that has happened but the dog came back and they were allowed to continue. Interesting.

oh no! Silly pup. Love how they keep these surprises for actual competition too!

I agree, all you can do is laugh (or cry, or well both haha). I sorta cringe at thinking of penny offleash and stressed during a trial - she stresses easy (as do I haha) so we'll need tons of proofing if we ever get there!

Congrats on the good run on the second day

I gave up when Bruce was about 5 months old. I spent days and days trying to enforce that. After one day of making him "off" about 200 times, I surrendered. Some battles just aren't worth fighting. We use the blanket you see in the pic, not that they use them 100% of the time!!! LOL!!

I'm a little surprised w/ all the other recent "tightening up" of the rules that any judges would still allow it. Shoot, in Obed, if a dog merely stands up on the Stays, it's dismissed... and AKC started revoking Q in the agility ring long ago if the dog left the right w/o a leash attached.

Anyhow, I'd not have counted on it though it was just ~3 yrs ago that a friend's Std Poo jumped the gates after her first Q in Utility (!) to greet her daddy... and returned. They had 5 pt deduction I believe. I'll have to ask if that is still the case since so many other rules got tightened since then.

But Congratulations! It really sounds like a great weekend! Anne

I just read thru the CKC rulebook looking for that, as I had always been told it was an automatic disqualification or excusal for the dog to leave the ring. But I couldn't find any specific reference to it. Just that the dog must be "under control". hmm. I suppose if Bruce had returned when called, I can see that judge's point, but i'd bet the majority would simply leave it at a disqualification.

I'm glad you went back and did a successful (on Bruce's part anyway!) Novice run. Thats a good way to finish off the trial.

I really appreciate all the kind words and advice from everyone. It really means a lot to me to be able to come here and vent, knowing many of you have been through similar situations. None of my friends really "get" why I spend so much time working with my dogs, so talking to them about something like this would be a complete waste of time. Thanks to all of you!!!!!!!
