    Puppies started class last night

It was all things they already knew how to do but it was good to be able to practice them in a more distracting environment. The instructor said the first couple weeks will be things they already know, so not to be surprised. I worked Cookie during class, and then repeated all the exercises with Sassy in the corner while the next class was going on (since I needed to stay anyway for Chloe’s classes). Sassy can be a little afraid of new dogs/people but she handled it all like a champ, so that was good to see. Next week, Sassy will work in class and Cookie in the corner.

The hardest part was loading them in/out of the car, LOL. We only have two crates, so I put Chloe in one, and had the puppies share the other one, which was fine size-wise but since we don’t drive them often enough for them to have learned things like when you jump in the car you go right in your crate and when we get there you need to step out of the crate and then wait until Mom puts your leash on before jumping out of the car, with two of them in the same crate it was a 3 ring circus. Kind of like whack-a-mole trying to get one out and leashed up at a time. Guess I know what we’ll be working on this week! It hasn’t been much of an issue before because those things are much easier to manage and teach when they are each in their own crate but we haven’t been driving anywhere where they needed to share before.

The logistics of hauling around three dogs, two of which are puppies makes me laugh, but also gives me a headache!

ONG, you are brave, three at a time! Glad to hear it is all going well, except for the crate thing that has me laughing. Visions of catching a greased pig come to mind.

Yeah, we’ve had 3, even 4 dogs at a time before but never more than two who were actively training and going places other than the 2 minute drive to the park or vet. I may have to get another crate for our van. Which we can fit, but then we can’t fit the (human) kids, LOL.

I think there will definitely be some experimentation in our future until we get the logistics down.

One of the ladies I train with on Monday's just ordered one of these..... You may just want to head over to the nearest Ford dealer!!!!!

hehehe! whack-a-mole! hehehe! oh my, i can just see it now, crate opens, out bound BOTH Sassy and Cookie.... what a hoot, except of course, the concern for un-controlled puppies and possible danger for them.

I am wondering about the logistics of going to a show - 3 crates to carry in and set up, 3 exuberant dogs to bring in and out of crowded venues, oh boy! fun! actually, there's one fellow here, GR, he's got a boy that doesn't compete (got attacked in a ring and no matter what they've tried can't get him over it..), his older about to be retired competition boy, and the Pup, who's been coming along to the shows since he finished his shots, and is now starting to compete. its amazing seeing the three dogs nicely in one hand sauntering (ok, pup still bounces, but in line with the older 2 boys) in and out for potty breaks etc.

its all i can do to bring in Scout, the requisite collapsing chair, collapsing crate (which also has the under-crate and chair mat stuffed into it), dog show bag (crammed with footwear changes, treats, collar, extra leash, Premium list, kleenex, etc) purse, and small cooler bag all in one go. I look like a freaking pack mule! i keep saying i'm going to get a backpack for Scout and he can carry the Show bag, purse and cooler bag! When Pup arrives this year, its going to be a big change. Carry all above in, set up, THEN go back to vehicle for the dogs. Yikes, times 3, wowser.....

oh, and those Transit vans (or the Nissan and mercedes equivilents) have seemingly overnight become all the rage for competitors/handlers with 3 or more dogs. This fall it seems they were in great numbers at the shows. some even had the roof-mount AC units like my trailer has.
