Infamous Dog Washer

And this is why I shouldn't use Cragislist!
So a family came to meet Zeke, my foster dog, last night, that had found him through his Pet ad in CL. The husband LOVED him, the wife was very timid about it, and the child was indifferent (in fact she had a toy puppy she kept playing with and going "PUPPY!")
The wife kept going "I don't know...." And at one point asked me if I would take him back if it didn't work out. I told her, this is a commitment, not a toy, you have to work through issues, but no, I won't let him go to the shelter or the streets if it came to that. Also the wife kept commenting on how expensive dogs are, and how her cats wouldn't like him. Well the husband loved him so he said "I'll take him, we'll get him tomorrow", and I tell him after his application is approved he can have Zeke. Then about half an hour after they left, the wife texted me and said "I'm very sorry, but we can't take him". Okay, so I called the other woman who was VERY interested in him as a playmate for her pup. When I told her she could meet and adopt him she got so excited, she was going out to get him toys and food now, etc. So half an hour after THAT, the wife texts me again, saying "I am thinking about getting rid of my cats so we can get the dog." (um....WHAT??) I text back, "I'm really sorry but I am pretty sure he's going to another owner, thank you though." So I get text, after text....after text, begging me to decline this new woman Zeke, and give him to this new family. Finally, after the tenth time of telling her, NO, Zeke is going to meet this new woman, it is unfair to this woman to tell her yes and then tell her no just because you changed your mind. Well then she FLIPPED, told me great now I am upsetting her kids, making her and her husband a nervous wreck, why can't I just tell the other woman "no" so Zeke may go into a REAL loving home with them.... I've probably gotten around 30 texts from her since last night. Then this evening, She goes "I'm done. I hope you manage to find a good home for him. I'm done bothering you." And I'm like, FINALLY. Because I haven't been replying this entire time!! And then five minutes later she texts, "Do you know of any other puppies needing adopting?" And I reply, "yeah, there are a lot of dogs out there that need adopting." And she goes "Well tell me something seriously, why won't you adopt Zeke to us" I am FINISHED. If she texts me again, I'm telling her Zeke has gone to his new home, and good riddance. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My fiance has been laughing at all of this, but I think it's crazy. To think, I may have let Zeke go to live with these people! The husband was nice but.... omg the wife..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So yeah, apparently I've completely disappointed their children, made them all nervous wrecks, and I'm giving Zeke to a horrible home now. Nothing against the wonderful woman we're meeting now tonight for Zeke, but I'm pretty sure I am sticking to Petfinder from now on.... LOL (Wish Zeke good luck with this new woman and his new little sister!! He's such a sweetheart I doubt he will need it )

Oh, what a nightmare! Seems like it would be a very unstable place to send him. I mean first the back and forth, but she is seriously telling you she is giving up other pets to get him...how friggin odd is that? So what, you give her the dog and then her cats needs foster parents. That doesn't seem right. Oy yoy yoy. Hope this other lady works out. Either way, I would stay clear of the headcase.

I can only see how it would've went, they'd take Zeke home, and after the first night of him crying in the crate, bring him back saying it just won't work out.
At least the woman he's meeting tonight has a dog already and KNOWS when they first come home, they aren't the perfect dog. oy vey

Sorry to hear about the drama. While you probably weren't prepared for the psycho treatment, and I am certainly not in the shoes of rescue folks, but as a breeder who had to sell pups, if the WHOLE FAMILY wasn't 100% in, they were not allowed to have one of my pups. From what you said, the husband was dying for a dog, the wife was concerned with the cats, and the kid couldn't care less, I would have tried to stay very nuetral about the situation, ask for the application, and no matter what happened afterwards, kept on looking for a different family. As far as her 100 texts, after the first ones, I would have just answered, Zeke had a long line of interested families, because you did not turn in your application, the next family was able to adopt him sorry. They got their application in first.

Good grief - thank goodness Zeke didn't go to that family (I feel sorry for the dad though). I'm glad he's going to a woman who really wants him - sheesh.

Oh my goodness. That would totally frustrate and annoy me. Thank goodness he didn't go home with them! If they were willing to get rid of their cats (which is unbelievable), whose to say in a year they wouldn't want another puppy or something, and decide to get rid of Zeke?? People are nuts.

lol oh my word....
Tell her the truth. She can't have him because she is disposing of other family members to adopt him and that's wrong. Then tell her if she doesn't leave you alone you will file harassment charges. |
