Anyone order the latest & greatest from Canon?

That would be the Canon 7D! All sorts of hype over this one ... as there always is.

I had been contemplating getting a 50D later this month OR splurging in early 2010 (before I lose my job ) and getting a 5DMKII but then they announced the 7D. I was swept away with all the hype and I ordered mine on September 29th. Got an email today ... "BACKORDERED" ... Oh well, it's not like I need a camera right now but I'll keep checking at least once in a while to see if it's shipped yet. Nice thing is, just after the "backorder" email was an email from Canon saying there's a $50 rebate if purchased AFTER October 12th ... Glad I didn't get it yet!

So I'll just admire the extra battery and CF cards I have for it already and tell them they won't be lonely for to long

Nice Johnny.

To be honest I haven't been following anything on the 7D. I'm so happy with what I have now that I haven't been too interested. Will have to go and read up though so when you get yours I can see what I'm missing.

Have fun with it. Although you say you don't need another camera right now I'm sure you'll be excited when it's shipped.

Cheers, Shayne

Excited? Yes, but not overly so. Looks like a great camera ... 18mp, HD video, 8fps, good quality at very high ISO. LOTS of other goodies too.

I ordered the kit (a 2nd 28-135 IS) and just camera bodies are shipping now. I've heard kits might not ship until early November ... I can wait. Got the 2nd lens because I really like the one I have and was contemplating getting another. It's a great lens for my Infrared camera with the IS.

We got the 5DmkII and love it. Now we are thinking we will be getting the 7D as a Christmas present for ourselves to go with it.

I'm with Golightly Labs; hadn't seen you post lately so I went searching. I just love all your puppy pics.

The 7D does sound pretty awesome, but I got my 40D last Christmas so I won't be getting another camera anytime soon. However, you can never have enough lens.

Life, for me, has been turned upside down. Twelve plus years working 3:30 to midnight (which I like VERY much) and due to layoffs, I've been moved to the 7:00 AM to 3:30 shift. I feel like I have NO time to do anything!

Then throw in the fact we are doing a bunch of remodeling on the house ... if I'm not nailing or fixing or painting or removing something, I'm taking a nap!

No puppy litters for a little while but I find out tonight we will have another pup from the last litter staying for a week or so. That'll be PattiO and Niko (sis & bro) from the March litter. It'll also be 10 Labs and I believe Tiki and/or Rhumba might be coming to stay too (not sure though) I'll get plenty of photos with this new camera

I went to our local camera store about this one because they were talking about it to promote it and it looks awesome! DH is quite interested and hopefully this will be our next camera. We have a Canon Rebel but we have been looking to get a new 2nd camera for some time...just looking for the 'right' one. We both really like this one.

I had been trying to decide which to get ... 5DMKII or a 50D. I know, no comparison but I do have two 5D's so had I got the 50D, I still would have kept them. Had I gone with the 5DMKII I probably would have sold one or both. Then they announced the 7D. All the hype sold me! Decided to get the 7D and keep both 5D's

Yesterday was the 1st day I really had a chance to try out the 7D ... WOW!!! ... this thing is amazing! I had taken a short video, hand held and wasn't all that impressed. Yesterday I set it on the tripod. This video in incredible!!! While it's not a full frame camera, it's still an awesomecamera in every aspect.

There are so many added functions to it, it'll be a while before I figure this thing out but so far I am very impressed. Auto focus in unbelievable! fast, FAST, FAST!!! I followed a flying seagull yesterday, finger holding the shutter button down, and the AF kept the gull in focus all the way. Only time it tripped up was when the bird flew by a boat ... it focused on the boat.

So far, I've only shot about 500 photos and 3 videos but this camera, while completely different than the 5D, is every bit as good but in different ways.

Only problem now, file size! I only shoot jpg ... large / fine ... and it tooks shots where file size is between 7mb & 10mb +. I need a new computer now

The 7D is a great choice! Not a full frame like the 5D & 5DMKII but for a APS-C (1.6 crop) camera it's in a new class by itself.

The 7D looks pretty awesome. I've been shooting with a 5dmkii for a while now and it's pretty decent. So's the 1dsmkiii.

As much as I'd like to try a 7D, I think I'll stay with what I got for now.

I bought the 7D last week ... had for all of 5 hours ... stoopid defective 28-135 lens! Yup that is my luck! So took it back ... thinking I might just buy the body as I have two 28-135 lenses ... my original 28-135 I bought when I got my 20D was awesome when I got it and still does fine in the studio. The one that came with the 40D is a POS. Sent it in once to Canon for what seems to be the problem with the one that came with the 7D! The AF. He said they have had a lot of problems with that lens. Duh because it is crap now!
Oh well ... I don't know what to do ...
John ... still waiting to see pics!!!!!

sportsmom, lose that lens and look at the 24-105 instead. A bit shorter but much nicer

Vic, I've got two 28-135's too! For not being an expesive "L" lens I like them very much and use them all the time. Nice all around lens. But lucky for me, I havn't had any problems with them.

As for pics. I'm "only" up to about 700 so far. Here's a link to a few. While it looks like the sun is still out, it had just set and I bumped the ISO way up. Still pretty good for a high ISO (think it was 6200??)

18mp is a LOT of mp! Many of these are cropped to fairly small % of the entire shot and I still had to reduce the size.

I think I mentioned before ... 7D is an amazing camera but it ain't no 5D!

Anyway ... just a few samples.
