Ok, who's looking for a wonderful Chocolate? This guy is on borrowed time. He was scheduled to be put down today because he is Heartworm positive and the shelter is overfull. He will be treated on Monday/Tuesday for the heartworms. I have already paid for the treatment and his neuter. Now he needs a home. I cannot take him because Red will be coming hopefully very soon. This guy is very adoptable and I can't stand the thought of him being put down. He came in as a stray with a collar. No microchip, no tags. He knows all basic commands, cats and dogs are not a problem, he plays well and loves kids. I do not know if he is housebroken since he is in the shelter but I do know that he will not use the bathroom in the inside of his run. If anybody can help him, please let me know!

Sorry, here's the link. He never made it to Petfinder because of the HW+. Adoptions have been slow and the big dogs really have no chance. The site needs to be updated. Every run is full, (26) some with 2 dogs in each.

I am literally 5 minutes away from here.

That's awesome you are helping him. I hope he is able to find a home. Out of curiousity, I looked at the pets they had and saw a guy named Bruno and got mad. How can you give up a dog because he got too big? Why the heck did you get him/her in the first place? I can't stand that people think dogs are an expendable item like a freaking trash bag that can be thrown away at any time. I hope things really worked out for Bruno.

Well since the other two people involved in this seem to want to stay invisible I will post the outcome for them. :)

First the good news - It turns out this beautiful Guy is HW Negative -   No nasty treatment for him. He is being neutered and the weekend of August 13th ....................................... He will be going to stay with Susan (AbbyGirl) from our board! YAY!!!!!!!!! I will be meeting Kim somewhere between Her home and Houston of Saturday the 13th - take him back to my house for the nite and bright and early Sunday morning I will leave to meet Susan somewhere halfway between Houston and Wichita KS. Seems like transports are getting harder to fill with Gas prices being so high and with folks off on summer vacation. We decided to do this one ourselves. I am so happy we could get this guy sprung and safe! He will be boarded for two weeks :( I have a commitment I cannot get out of this weekend and I am in Chicago and Wisconsin the following weekend - but very soon he will be on his way. Susan will be fostering (Yeah Right  ) and setting him up on Petfinder and Deneen very generously has agreed to Courtesy list him thru Opt2adopts website.

I believe people should be recognized for their good deeds - so even tho Kim and Susan have remained quiet about this - Well I have a big mouth!

Cannot wait for the transport! WHOOOHOOOOO!

Does he have a name yet? He sure is a good looking boy. He looks a lot like my Snickers.

Oh man Kathy! So far, choc lab guy's name is, um, Choc. We will name him; I promise! Looks like it's time for me to haul the new digital camera out of its box and learn how to work the dang thing!

As it turns out, the SO has to go to Dallas the weekend of Aug. 6 and he is driving. I've sent Kim and Kathy a PM about it; I know Kathy isn't available, but we'll see if Kim and perhaps someone reading this ???? could get Choc. from LA to somewhere in Texas on Sun. Aug. 7. It would be great if we could combine a planned road trip with getting Choc.

Suggestions for a name are welcome, and I know we already have some name threads going. The SO, the sweet guy that he is, immediately thought of Java and I could tell he thought probably no one else had ever, ever thought of that for a choc. lab! :)

Susan with labs Sam (eager for a buddy) and Abbey, and felines Medic and Dex (who cannot imagine going on a road trip to pick up a dog).

This is a dumb suggestion - but it made me laugh. How about Mr. Chips? I know I'm strange, But you should meet my Husband. He wanted to name our last dog Sputnick (sp?) to keep with the Russian theme by our husky named Czarina.

Yet both strange and addicted to labs.

How about Goober?

I'm eating Goobers right now, stuck my hand in the bag and realized they are almost all gone  Considering it is a big bag (11.5 oz) and certainly not ment to be consumed in one sitting, its time I stopped! All this rescue stuff is forcing me to eat!

GOOBER????? I thought mine was bad! And then that lame excuse for coming up with it - just how gullable do you think we are?

I had forgotten how good these things are! I just need some hot buttered popcorn and I'll be set! Of course my daughter is going to kill me when she gets home, these are supposed to be hers!

Yay for choco!! :cheers2: That's great news for you Susan! You are such a wonderful person to open your home like this.
What about Stover for a name? I had a friend who named their choco lab Stover so it wasn't a normal chocolate name. Silly?

Susan

Linda, that's not only clever, but also a great play on the concept of synergy! I don't know if I'll go with Reese because I knew a Reece who was a real horse's behind, but I love your play on words!

Kim, I know you have been worried about Red and this weekend, but have you given any thought to Sunday, August 7 for Choc? The SO is going to Dallas that weekend; he's driving and will be returning Aug. 7. I know Kathy isn't available, but is there any possiblity of getting Choc to somewhere in TX for the SO to pick up? It would be great to combine his planned road trip with picking up Choc.

hey guys, if you can get him here (i'm just out of dallas) I can hold him instead of boarding him until he can be picked up. Just a thought if you need me.

The 6th and 7th are not looking good for me. I am going to have a wedding shower at my house for a friend on the 7th at 5:00. I'm thinking out loud....
If we can get someone in Houston to meet me somewhere on Thursday the 4th, get him to zoeonloan on the 5th and meet up with SO on the 7th?
Does that sound like something we should work on?

I wish I could help you guys - I am out from the 2nd thru the 8th. I am still planning on doing the following weekend unless someone tells me differently - My daughter is going to come and help me with the driving.

zoeonloanwife
07-27-2005, 04:42 PM
That works here. If you need to get him here sooner, I can hold him however long it's needed. I can't permently foster at this point, but I can do a few weeks here and there.

Susan

I continue to be able to do the Aug. 13 weekend, but the weekend of Aug 6 and 7 would be great only because SO will already be in Dallas. Kim do you know if there are any paid transports in your area or would you have time to drive him if they could pick him up somewhere reasonably close to you? That could be any time next week that works for you. Because Zoe has so graciously offered to foster Choc until Aug. 7, he could hang out with Zoe, who will of course fall in love with Cho, and then SO could pick up him from Zoe. I would of course pay for the transport.

I know you are swamped trying to figure out Red, but if you learning anything about a transport, could you please let me know? We could Choc out of his boarding situation and get him to Zoe.

Zoe your user name cracks me up! I don't know if we will be able to tak you up on your generous offer, but I really appreciate.

LOL, Dh came up with the name when he first signed on here and I just added wife to it. We were figuring out a few things with the dogs and Zoe was permently our yet so she was "on loan" at the time DH found the board.

I'll do what I can, just let me know :)

Hi Kim and Zoeonloan :) ,

I have sent both of you PM. I'm looking into a paid transport from Destrehan to Dallas for Choc. It would be outstanding if he could leave boarding, hang out with Zoe in Dallas for a few days, and then be picked by the SO on Aug. 7 since he is going to Dallas that weekend any way. I called the transport people Kim suggested and they'll call me back tonight at home. So my PM asks you for some contact info and I give you my contact info.

I don't know if this will work, but if it does, it would be great for Choc and make good use of the SO's travel plans!

Thanks,
Susan
