Hi everyond

so you are suppose to feed about 1.5 percent of a dog's body weight everyday. However, how much percentage of that 1.5 percent should be all meat? or bones?

thanks

I'm not sure, but that sounds wrong to me. Max is 90 lbs, and we feed him 3 cups of food a day.

taegello, it sounds like you are talking about raw feeding percentages.

I must again (I know I've recommended it to you numerous times before) to please do some research on this. I know you've said you can't afford the books or supplements, but I'm sure you can check your public library for any of the books in the "Books on BARF" thread in Natural Diets.

A raw diet fed improperly is not a better diet than kibble. Perhaps you should reconsider and feed your dog kibble if you aren't able to commit to the initial research necessary to provide a healthy raw diet plan for your dog.

It's 2%-3% of your dogs IDEAL weight. That means if your dog is fat (Say 80 lbs and the vet wants him/her to lose 10 lbs) then feed 2% of 70 lbs.

Then there are different theories on how much of what. If your feeding the Billinghurst way then 50-60% should be bone, 10% organ meat (with at least half of that being liver) some veggies and the rest muscle meat.

If you are feeding the whole prey model then 10-15% should be edible bones, 10-15% should be organ meat (again half that being liver) and the rest mostly muscle meat (and veggies if you like).

I agree with ZenCat though... don't take this lightly. Make sure you've done your homework before you start.

I agree with ZenCat. It took me a good six months of reading everything I could get my hands on about raw diets before I even started feeding it to my crew. There is alot of information out there so do the research.
