I have finally talked my sister into finding a home for her lab. She has been tied up for the last few months because they moved into a new house. Yes, it makes me mad as well. "Sissy" has been spayed, up to date on vaccs, on HW preventative, and Frontline. She needs someone who can spend time with her. She has been alone for a little while.:( She lives in VA, and we are willing to meet someone. I will post a pic when I get one.

Where in Virginia do you live? Have you tried a rescue? LRR.org does not take owner give-ups any longer but Lab rescue of the LRCP does. They both have web sites.

I know I'm kind of far away, but what is the story on her? Why is she getting rid of her? Just curious..

Her name is "sissy." When my sister got her, she kept her and a rat terrier inside. Both were puppies. They demolished her house because they were never crate trained, nor did my sister have time to give her proper attention. You know the type. Any way, my sister bought a new house and both dogs were put outside. Sissy has now been an outside dog for about 4 months. Sissy has a great dispostion, plays well with other dogs, loves children, and has been spayed, had vaccs and on HW preventative. She knows sit, and thats about it. She is about a year old, and just needs someone to show her the ropes instead of being tied up.

We're in Raleigh, but I know the Lab Rescue of NC has taken rescued puppy mill pups from Virginia. They might be able to give you some direction. The rescue that we worked with to adopt Java might be of help, too. I know that we want an second eventually, but I don't think Java is ready... But I'd be more than happy to ask the lady that runs our rescue...

We live in SW VA, in a little town called Tazewell. The rescue sounds like a great option. I have been looking all over to find a home for her. No luck.

My husband and I met at school at VT, so I'm familiar with that area. SW Va is beautiful and we miss it. :)

I was browsing on www.petfinder.com and there are several rescues relatively close... I know that I saw one in Roanoke and another in Lynchburg. That might be the best place to start. A regional search for your zip code should bring up several places. Many groups allow you to list as a "private rescuer" on their website (and their petfinder listing) and, if it's a concern, have more say in where she goes.

I don't know whether or not the Lab Rescue of NC would be able to take her, but someone may be able to give you some advice. Go to www.labrescuenc.org for contact info.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Where are u in Virginia?? We're in Kentucky and are looking for a companion for Hunter. We've been looking at getting an older dog and not a puppy. The funny thing is that we've been looking for a black female lab! Please post a picture and let me know some more info so I can run it by my hubby....

I found some puppy pics of her, but my camera is horrible, so it's fuzzy. Remember, she is the smaller one (puppy) with the purple collar. I will get some recent ones asap.

Oh, I forgot to ask if there is a charge for her. Are they wanting money or are they just looking for a home? I promise to give her a loving home. We're crazy about our Hunter and would love to welcome her in (if hubby okays it...) He's a little concerned about having 2 dogs, but hopefully I can convince him ;)

First of all there is no charge. Yes, they just want to find a good home for her. She is up to date on shots. No health problems. She does not have papers. She gets along well with large and small dogs. I am unsure about cats because my sis doesent have any. She loves children. I told my sister that you may be interested. She was excited. If I can answer any other questions, just let me know!

Thanks for the info!! A recent photo would be great!! It might help pursuade my hubby to give in ;) He's a sucker for cute dogs...

Is she purebread? Registration papers really aren't that important to us. I was just curious. As long as she's happy & healthy. We plan to discuss it and think about it over the weekend and I'll get back to you with a decision by Monday.

BTW...hubby says Tazwell is only about an hour from his folks!

Yipeeee!!!!! Well, yes she's purebread. She is a cutie with one of those blockie heads. I will try to get a pic this weekend. My sister lives down a mountain, and it is really snowy over there. But, I will try and make it when the roads clear. I am sure when your husband sees her face, his heart will melt.:p:

Okay, I went and got photos today. I did find out that she 10 months old. My sister stood in the pics so you could see her size.

She is a real sweetheart. She is so strong. She knows how to sit and fetch and loves to swim. She is a jumper when she is excited though.

Yes, it's very hard. I'm afraid that for whatever reason, it wouldn't work out and Sissy would be back to square one. However we'll never know if we don't try. I'm sure she & Hunter would get along great, but we're still thinking on it. Sorry to take so long with our decision, but we want to make sure that we do what's best for Sissy. Thanks again for all your help and info.

Thats fine. I understand completely. I would love to have her myself and so would Lexi. But we already have an ark full.;) My husband has to talk sense into me when I start trying to bring Sissy and every other dog I see, home with me. I just hate to see Sissy all tied up now. When I saw her Sunday, I said, "Don't worry honey, I'll get you outta this abuse." My sister laughed it off. I was serious! If you decide not to take her, I'll understand and continue my mission of finding a lovable home for her. But, if by chance you do take her.........I'd be so grateful because I know she would be very well taken care of. That's an understatement by reading posts about that spoiled Hunter of yours.:D

Thanks for all the info on Sissy. Unfortunately, we've decided not to take her in. There are several reasons, but the biggest one is that we're hoping to start a family soon and think a baby and a new dog might be too much right now. I'm dissappointed because I was really hoping to help you out. Sissy is such a pretty girl and deserving of a loving home....Best of luck in your quest to find her a home. I'll let you know if I come across anyone who might like to take her in. Hunter sends puppy kisses her way...

I hate that it didn't work out... If you don't have any other leads for individuals, do try to contact a rescue near you. Like I said before, maybe the Lab Rescue can give advice... http://www.labrescuenc.org

I really wish I could help out myself, but the fact is that Java is in the "terrible teens" and needs as much focused training as possible.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hunter is in his teenager stage and is becoming a handful!! That's another reason we decided not to take Sissy. There's a lab rescue here in Kentucky that has lots of labs. http://www.kylabrescue.com/

Hopefully there's one in Virginia that will be able to help you with Sissy. Good luck!

Thanks Cindy for your consideration. I may have an interested person at the school that I work at. I am sure that Hunter and Sissy would be quite a handful. Little Rascals...hee hee:D
