View Full Version : 2006 Lab Board Weight Loss Group(LBWLG)
ChristyM 01-03-2006, 12:56 PM Here is the plan if any of you have any other ideas please email or PM me.
1..Set a weight loss goal. We need to chart our original weight. Someone mentioned 10% of body weight as a weight loss goal, I think that is a great idea. We all should start with 10% of our original body weight.
2. Stick to a diet. Those of you on weight watchers great. The rest of us will have to figure out what diet works best for each individual. I am going on a more fruit and veggies, less starch and meats diet. I also am cutting out all soda except 1 per day.
3. Exercise.. I know we all can't do the exact same exercises, but maybe a time limit would work. I am starting with 45 minutes of Tae-Bo Cardio. We should also increase the time limit as our stamina rises.
4. Weigh In...We all will weigh in every 2 weeks to start. We can lengthen that as time goes on. Maybe to every month. After we meet our original goal it think we should stick to the 10% of weight to set our new goal...We will just go by 10% of our new weight. That way it doesnt seem to overwhelm us as to how much of us have to loose.
I think we should keep the group going until every one of us looses what we want. Keep in touch with each other anyway you can for support. Try not to fall off the weight loss wagon. But if you do one of us will be there to pick you up and help put you back on....Thank all of you who have responded...I had no idea there were so many of us out there who had that much to loose.
Original weigh in will be on Tuesday!!! If you dont want everyone to know you can PM me and I will keep track. I will try to keep track of everyones weight as we go.
ChristyM 01-03-2006, 01:01 PM Okay Today is the Day Everyone.....:)
I need everyone to weigh in today that way I can keep track. You can either PM me with you weigh in or post it here. Several of you have already weighed in, thank you!

You're welcome! You can also use lime juice, real orange slices etc. to give a different flavor. I have a hard time drinking enough water too so I'm always disguising it somehow! :)

Rebecca 01-03-2006, 05:38 PM My weight as of today is: 155 lbs.
10% weight loss: I should be at 140
Diet plan:
1 soda a day (I love that pop)
cut out sugar-no more 1/2 bags of Baby Ruth's like I ate last night! (I do love my sugar)

fist size portions only
add more veggies etc. and drink lots of water (great idea about adding lemon)

I am an overeater without a doubt. I love all food and I have never been able to stay on any kind of diet for more than a couple of days. I get impatient because I want it to all come off right away. When it doesn't I go back to my old ways. We camp alot, and about 10 years ago I had a lady tell me she has never seen someone eat like I do. She said that in 1 hour's time I never stopped eating. So true! Now its starting to catch up with me.
Can't wait to learn some better ways to live and eat and share with you all.

mickiew 01-03-2006, 07:49 PM For those of you that want to cut out the pop but don't like water all the time, Crystal light makes minature packets that are made for water bottles. medstudent28 01-03-2006, 09:02 PM I have to admit water is VERY difficult one for me. I have to force it.
Try adding Crystal Light packets. You can buy them in the singles are very good and add very few calories.
If you need advice, just ask. I may not know all that much about dogs, human health I know.
Your goal should be to lose 2-3 lbs per week. Anymore than that and you have an increased risk of gallstones and your success rate of actually keeping the weight off drops dramatically.
For those of you who are calorie counters that means you decrease your calories per day anywhere between 1000 and 1500. It all doesn't have to be with food. You could cut 500 calories from your diet (easily done, just eliminate a doughnut, skip McDonald's for lunch and have a sandwhich) and burn 500 cal in exercise.
For exercise, cardio is always good because increases cardiovascular health. The best way to lose weight is to build muscle. Anaerobic exercise burns almost 3 x the calories as aerobic, especially fat. Plus by building muscle you increase your Resting Metabolic Rate, which allows you to burn more calories when you sitting watching TV or at the office.
Hope that advice helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Good luck!!!
Rebecca 01-03-2006, 09:17 PM O.k. Boyden's owner and all else.
I really like this information so keep it coming. I have always eaten like a pig, honestly, and I need the most info. I can get. Little tid-bits like this really help me think of other ways to do this and stay healthy. I do carry some water weight though and that is always what comes off first.

Lovemylabby 01-03-2006, 10:39 PM Please forgive me here...but isn't this section of the board devoted to dog chat about diet/nutrition?
Mom2labs 01-04-2006, 04:43 AM Weight as of 1/03/06: 172 lbs.
10% goal: 17.2 lbs
final goal: 147 lbs.

breakfast was orange juice at 4:00 AM, banana on the way to work, bagel at work, salad at lunch, pork barbeque(homemade) for dinner ( I know, we had to take DH's van in for service & stop where my daughter's car was in for service, wait for her to bring our truck and pick up her car). Our evenings are pretty hectic like that.
Please forgive me here...but isn't this section of the board devoted to dog chat about diet/nutrition?
We've had a sticky thread about HUMAN diet and nutrition here for over a year -- this is phase II for people that are new or have resolved this year to lose weight. It's not about "General Chat" but "Diet and Nutrition" -- this ONE thread just has to do with humans trying to be healthy here. :kiss_3_2:
Mom2labs 01-04-2006, 05:44 AM Just some info:
Eat Well in 2006
The key to healthy eating is variety. Start the new year off right by adding these foods into your diet. Eating well doesn't have to mean eating bland either. These ingredients can be used to make an array of meals that are tasty and good for you.
1.Yogurt
This delicious dairy product is vitamin-rich and nutritious. According to a University of Tennessee study, yogurt may help people lose weight while maintaining muscle. Other studies have found yogurt may bolster your immune system, prevent yeast infections and stop bad breath. Substitute frozen yogurt for ice cream as your dessert of choice. • Yogurt Chicken (http://chicken.allrecipes.com/az/YogurtChicken.asp)
2.Olive Oil
Ample medical research has shown that the benefits of olive oil may go way beyond its wonderful taste. A study by Greek scientists at the University of Athens in 2004 found that this monounsaturated oil, which is rich in antioxidants, may be the key to the healthy Mediterranean diet-meaning a lower risk of heart attacks, diabetes and colon cancers. • Italian Herb Infused Olive Oil (http://salad.allrecipes.com/az/ItalianHerbInfusedOliveOil.asp)
3.Beans
Whether you toss them in a salad or add them to a burrito, beans are a low-calorie, high-fiber ingredient. Packed with antioxidants, protein and iron, beans may be the ultimate healthy food. A USDA report in 2005 said that they may even reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Because beans are a complex carbohydrate, they provide plenty of energy while regulating blood-sugar levels.
• Three Bean Salad I (http://salad.allrecipes.com/az/ThrBnSld.asp)
4.Nuts
When life gets busy, it's too easy to skip meals or cut corners. Grabbing a handful of nuts is a convenient way to make sure that you get enough protein. Like olive oil, nuts are a great source of heart-healthy monounsaturated oil and antioxidant-rich, bone-strengthening magnesium. Add chopped walnuts to a salad or cashews to a stir fry.
• Authentic Thai Cashew Chicken (http://chicken.allrecipes.com/az/76512.asp)• Almond Green Beans (http://sidedish.allrecipes.com/az/84668.asp)5.Spinach
This leafy green is one of the healthiest vegetables you can eat. Spinach is uncommonly rich in a variety of nutrients including calcium, iron, potassium, vitamins A, K, and C. A study published in 2004 by the Journal of Nutrition found that spinach combats prostate cancer, while other studies have shown spinach may protect vision and bolster cardiovascular health.
• Spinach and Orzo Salad (http://pasta.allrecipes.com/az/SpinchndrzSld.asp)
6.Barley
In addition to being a hearty soup staple, barley is a cholesterol-lowering grain high in fiber and niacin. Barley also produces butyric acid, a fatty acid that fights colon cancer. Try mixing barley flakes into your morning cereal for a wholesome breakfast.
• Beaker's Vegetable Barley Soup (http://soup.allrecipes.com/az/78052.asp)
7.Garlic
Used for centuries to ward off everything from vampires to evil spirits, garlic is high in vitamins C and B6, and it contains powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral agents that help fight common colds and flu. Regular consumption of garlic is also believed to protect against cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
• Sauteed Garlic Asparagus (http://sidedish.allrecipes.com/az/92845.asp)
8.Fish
Studies have shown that fish is one of the world's healthiest foods. Fatty fish such as salmon is packed with protein, niacin and Omega-3, an essential fatty acid that promotes healthy cardiovascular activity. Omega-3 may also protect against a host of health concerns from obesity to sunburns. A 2005 study published by the Archives of Neurology claims that eating fish once a week may even slow the rate of cognitive decline. • Soy Ginger Salmon (http://seafood.allrecipes.com/az/86245.asp)
9.Tomatoes
Fiber-rich tomatoes are low in calories and high in vitamin C, vitamin A, and cancer-preventing lycopene. Like olive oil, tomatoes are an important part of the touted Mediterranean diet. Several studies have found tomatoes are also beneficial in fighting various forms of cancer. Fact: although often classified as vegetables, tomatoes are, technically, fruit.
• Garden Fresh Tomato Soup (http://soup.allrecipes.com/az/GrdnFrshTmtSp.asp)
10.Avocados
The nutrients in this creamy, sinfully rich-tasting vegetable read like a list of essentials for a healthy diet: cholesterol-lowering monounsaturated fat, fiber, copper, potassium and vitamins C, K, and B6. Add chopped avocado to a salad, or mash avocados to make fresh guacamole.• Avocado Feta Salsa (http://appetizer.allrecipes.com/az/87678.asp)
by Tom Shea
Those are some excellent recipes!!! Thanks!! :)
So far today, I've had a pear for breakfast and drank my first 16 oz. of water. Having a salad with FF Rye Krisp for lunch and an orange. Dinner tonight is grilled chicken breast on a toasted low cal bun with a small side salad. My DH is going to be starving, so he might have 2 sandwiches. The pounds melt off him like crazy, so it doesn't matter. :roll2:
Jenna 01-04-2006, 07:43 AM I agree, those recipes look really good, certainly worth trying them. I started out my day with half grapefruit, nutra-grain bar and my water...I am skipping my treadmill today because I dont wanna over do it since I have not been on it in two years. So until I am used to it, I am starting out with three times a week on it. I will walk outside, I can do that everyday. Maybe tonight I will close myself in the bedroom and turn the music on loud and dance  I wish all of you a successful day!
Jenna~
lillybenny 01-04-2006, 07:47 AM Don't forget the world's most perfect food. Jello. Rich in protein excellent for the nails and hair. Also only 10 calories and gives you that sweet taste you might crave. I buy the sugar free jello and that is my snack.
lillybenny 01-04-2006, 07:48 AM I see a lot of folks giving up soda. My Dr. said that the diet sodas are okay. Has anyone heard different?
Breezeline 01-04-2006, 07:49 AM Weight: 216
Goal Weight: 130
10% Goal: 21
Diet: to generally eat more healthy by decreasing sugar and refined carbs. Increase fruit and veggies and eat smaller portions.
Excersice: I play volleyball for 2 hours each week. I work at the Y, so plan to use my membership 3 times per week for cardio and strength training.
It will be very hard to do until after the Federal Election on Jan 23rd, as I am the volunteer coordinator for one of our local candidates, but I will fit it in.
Mom2labs 01-04-2006, 08:02 AM I use a lot of the sugar free products, due to having fibromyalgia and being on a sugar free diet. You have to watch them, some have a lot of calories, even being sugarfree. I'm only suppose to use Splenda, but sometimes use other sweeteners. I've found that much of the "low-fat" stuff has more sugar in it to make it taste better.
I had my 1/2 sugar + calcium OJ today at 4:00 and 1 C. of oatmeal with an english muffin with a little butter and Polander all fruit(jam).
Pam and Brandy 01-04-2006, 08:08 AM Ok, here's my challenge for today (and it's even dog related). Dog Guides Canada (whom I foster for) allowed their dogs in training to go home for the holidays. Today, I will be returning my favourite (male) border terrier, Ogre, to college and saying goodbye. I'm heading over to his foster family's home for lunch so we can give all the dogs a chance to play, then we're taking Grizzelda, Brandy and Ogre to the leashfree park before returning Ogre to Dog Guides Canada.
My friend has told me that she doesn't have anything healthy besides this is a stressful day for us and you know how we all crave junk on those horrible days.
So I had a healthy breakfast of pineapple, blueberries and strawberries and I'm bringing a salad to her place so at least part of the lunch will be healthy and I'll try to make up for it at dinner. At least the leashfree park we're going to is a trail that you follow so I should get in at least 45 minutes of good walking.
How do you handle going out?
Pam
How do you handle going out?
Just about anywhere you go will have a salad with low fat or fat free dressing. Even McDonald's! You can get them with or without meat. If you do choose something else, eat only half and take the rest home to either eat tomorrow or give to a family member (like the dog?). My DH loves Subway when we're on the road, but I don't care for bread. So I get their chicken wrap -- you choose which dressing (or don't put any on at all) plus load it up with low-cal veggies. Good luck and let us know how it goes! :)
Pam and Brandy 01-04-2006, 08:24 AM Thanks Barb. I think the fact that I posted this challenge and now feel I need to report back will actually help me out today. However, I am a stress eater and it's not going to be easy saying goodbye to that little guy. I'll do my best and let you know tonight.
Pam
sebsmom 01-04-2006, 08:26 AM How do you handle going out?
Pam
You could take a lunch for yourself and pack an extra for your friend. There are actually a lot of great fast food choices these days. A lot of places have terrific salads, but watch out for the dresasing. some of those dressing packets are actually 2 servings per packet if you read the label, and each serving has about 200 calories. I almost flipped the first time I noticed that I had just pured 400 calories onto my salad! Heck, I could have just had a burger and fries!
Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the day.:)
Jenna 01-04-2006, 08:29 AM Lillybenny I was told if I HAD to drink soda to drink the regular, that the diet was not good for my high blood pressure. I cant give you an explanation as to why he said that. I have no idea. I noticed cutting down on soda makes a very noticeable difference for me though. Now I take an ocassional sip off DH Davids soda and its enough. I really trying hard to do the water thing.
ATTN. Soda addicts! ;) Here's an article from MSNBC about drinking soda today: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10697344/
Timberlabs 01-04-2006, 08:39 AM This is great!! I want to join as well. I don't own a scale but do know that my booty needs to be smaller lol I am currently wearing a 14 but it hangs on my back end badly lol and I'm not quite ready for a 12..so..instead of looking at the scale I look at sizes. I've had 5 kids in 10 yrs and my problem area is my lower belly. I cant' do situps or crunches because of my lower back but I can walk! And i've lost quite a bit just walking 3.5 miles a day. It wasn't hard and I really enjoyed it.
I've cut out white sugar from my diet and eat lots of fruits and veggies. If I have to have a pop it's diet..dont' care for diet but you know how it is.
I also get crystal light mixes and drink those as well. Water of course is the best drink choice over anything.
I also drink one slimfast for breakfast I am not a breakfast eater but have found that by drinking one of those I can go much longer between eating and I dont' get the munchies. If I do eat breakfast it's oatmeal or cream of wheat..they also keep me fuller longer and then on those days I will have the slim fast for lunch. If I eat out I eat at Subway..I love Subway lol. If I cant' eat at Subway I go where I can get a salad..McDonalds has wonderful salads..just watch that dressing..I go with oil and vinager one myself.
someone mentioned propel water..love that stuff. I also like Fruit 2 O..I think it's called that..I drink the ones in the blue bottles..good stuff and easy way to get your water in.
I am excited to get this started and I want to encourage everyone here myself included..to take this ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!!!
lillybenny 01-04-2006, 08:47 AM It seemed that most of that article was directed to sugar containing sodas. I do know if you have high blood pressure you should not drink them because they contain a lot of sodim. But I do not have high blood pressure. I drank them the last time I lost weight. ALthough I did decrease the amount so that I could increase my water intake. I HATE water, of any kind, but I force myself to drink it.
It seemed that most of that article was directed to sugar containing sodas.
OK, this is the part I found interesting about the soda article, including diet sodas (which I USED to be addicted to):
The carbonic or phosphoric acid dissolves the calcium out of the enamel, leaving a softened matrix that allows bacteria to enter the teeth and cause destruction. The sugar is an added insult — it’s converted to acid by the bacteria on the teeth, making the combination of acid and sugar especially destructive. Diet soda also contains acid. So if you’re sipping a sugar-free soda while eating a carbohydrate-rich snack or meal, your teeth are at equal risk.
Some health experts believe that soda leaches calcium from the bones in an attempt to buffer the body’s acidity level from the phosphoric acid intake. But there’s no solid evidence to prove this theory. In fact, many everyday foods contain more phosphorous than soda.
However, studies have shown that adolescent girls who regularly drink soda DO have lower bone densities (and higher incidence of fractures) than non-soda drinkers. These findings are most likely because excessive soft drink intake displaces milk and other calcium-rich beverage contributing to an overall calcium deficiency.
[u]Carbonation
Excessive carbonation can cause gas and stomach irritation in people who have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
I gave up diet sodas because of the uncertainty over Aspartame or even Splenda. Just not worth it to me. I was never fond of "just water," either, but since being on the WW plan last year, I got used to drinking a lot of it and am now getting back into the habit. I had a cup of chamomille tea while watching TV last night and it just put me right to sleep, LOL!
lillybenny 01-04-2006, 10:38 AM I guess I am just to stubborn to give up the diet soda. It is my oly vice. I have tried and I can cut back, but I have not been real ggod about quitting all together.

Same here, Carol. I just cannot comploetely give it up. It is really my only "treat" that I allow myself. I think I would snack on bad foods instead if I tried to completely give it up.
medstudent28 01-04-2006, 10:53 AM I see a lot of folks giving up soda. My Dr. said that the diet sodas are okay. Has anyone heard different?
As far as weight loss goes, the most harmful thing in the soda is sugar. You can still lose weight on diet sodas and lose a lot.
However, sodas also have carbonate water, which can cause you to retain water. So you actually look bigger than you really are.
Caffeine can actually increase fatty acid metabolism and increase metabolism, hence why it is included in many weight loss pills. However, it only does this to non-habitual users. So if you are use to drinking caffeine it won't boost your metabolism.
All the acids is sodas aren't very good for you either. I would stick to maybe one diet soda a day. One diet soda a day definitely won't hurt your diet and may even help.
sebsmom 01-04-2006, 11:14 AM :) Thanks for the advice medstudent28. I have great faith in a UAB trained med student.:)

Cricket 01-04-2006, 12:09 PM I found some huge long peppers today at the grocery. I counted up all the calories and I am going to stuff them with turkey sausage, rice, and tomatoes in a tomato sauce base then cover them in sauce. It comes to right at 200 calories a pepper. I will bake them.

10%= 15#
Goal Weight: 125-130# by June
Exercise: Returning with a more positive attitude to my regular workout of 4-5 days/wk of Free Weights and Kickboxing class 1x wk. I want to include more cardio sessions (I HATE Cardio! and it is so hard to get motivated to do it). I'd like to get some strenuous outdoor activity at least once a week (snowshoeing, biking, hiking, etc). Bonus activity- walking the dogs 1/2 - 1 mile every day.
Diet: I am not dieting. I am eating smarter and healthier in 2006. I do want to cut back on sweets and snacks and my Starbucks addiction.

ChristyM 01-04-2006, 01:10 PM For those of you who dont want to check in everyday, we are going to start a Check In Friday. We can review how we feel we did this week and whether of not we are sticking to our diet and such. I also had a request to ask Burtman to give us our own section on the board...that way we could include a section for tips and low fat recipes. I would love other opinions on this before I PM Burtman.
Sounds like you all are doing great. I personally will be checking in everyday because it seems to help me keep motivated that much more.
Today for breakfast I had wheat toast and a hard boiled egg and OJ...
Lunch I had a cup of yogurt, salmon patty, and a cup of skim milk. I have to have my milk...
Dinner I havent decided yet...but DH said that is I keep this up he will starve to death by next month...LOL...hes so overdramatic. Keep up the good work everyone and keep those suggestions coming. I really appreciate all the help.

One of the best diets I've run across is the Abs Diet that is put out by the editor of Men's Health magizine. Very good diet. There are two books (link below). Both are filled with healthy recipes and most of them are delicious. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great links...but getting DH to do a diet is not possible. He said he only lives once and he will eat what he wants...He has been bringing home fast food and teasing me with it the little devil...lol...So I just dont care if he eats what I fix for dinner or not...The kids who are 7 and 3 are loving the new recipes. And that is all that matters..LoL

Nikki&Brady 01-04-2006, 01:30 PM Did you ask to have the section put in the Lab Living Section? That would make the most sense to me.
I have done Weight Watchers at Work last year, so I have a TON of Weight Watcher recipes, links, and info if anyone is interested.
Also, PM me if you want to basic idea of it works, and I would be more than to send the info to you. :)

lillybenny 01-04-2006, 02:12 PM BTW for motivation watch the 2 hour biggest loser show tonight. Tonight it is aobut two families and two couples and you will see the beginning and end all in the same night. This show really inspires me. These people can barely walk up stairs when they start. It is amazing what the end results are.
brownie trout 01-04-2006, 02:25 PM I have a problem, I am a night time snacker and it is such a hard habit to break! I can do great all day but when the evening rolls around I have a really hard time. I am trying to save some of my points everyday for that evening munchies but once I start I have a hard time stopping. Does anyone out there have any good suggestions? I have tried having that 97% F.F. popcorn but it has no taste and doesn't seem to satisfy me. I want it with butter on it LOL
I will try to come here when I get that urge to eat and read these threads, maybe that will help inspire me to be good, I hope.
I think part of my problem is that I have been a professional cook for 30 years and the low fat stuff just doesn't taste right to me, I love GOOD food.
I am glad you are all here so I have a place to vent and to go to for help, Thanks
yahpetrescue 01-04-2006, 02:44 PM A little secret... Gerber (yes, the baby food company) makes really tasty veggie crackers, cookies, etc. for toddlers that not only taste good, but are low in calories, too! For example, the serving size of the cookies in my cabinet is 12, with only 80 calories! My trick is that I take the recommended portion, break the crackers or cookies up, and snack on the littler pieces. It takes longer to eat them, so I feel like I'm getting more. I eat more of these than my son does. You can find them in the baby food aisle. I don't really recommend the banana snackers, but everything else is pretty tasty. Gerber should figure out what they have got going for them and start a "diet" line for adults. They would only have to change the packaging :)
Nikki&Brady 01-04-2006, 02:49 PM Grapes are one of the BEST snack foods I can come up with for night time snacking. Even better frozen.
I like microwave popcorn too. But I don't like the 97% FF stuff either. I buy the mini-bags that are "Light Butter" and those are pretty good. I think those are 3 pts for the mini bag.
Few other night-time snacks.....Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches, Sugar-free, fat-free jello with fat-free cool whip, fat-free fudgesicles.
Mom2Lucky&JJ 01-04-2006, 02:58 PM Is it too late for me to join!? I am DYING to get back to my normal "pre-married" weight before we go on vacation this spring!!
Current Weight: 170 lbs.
10% Goal: 153 lbs. (preferably 140 by spring!)
Exercise: Crunches, pushups, lunges in am or pm, jogging at lunch at work (hard to go for a walk right now when I get home from work b/c it's dark and I live in a rural area!), I may join the gym here at work too, also walking dogs on the weekends BOTH days!
Diet: NO MORE SODAS!! This is my MAIN problem! IT'S SO hard for me to drink water..I stay so dehydrated b/c I'm NEVER thirsty! Also, eat a normal serving..I tend to overeat alot and THEN pile on dessert! Eat more fruits/veggies too.
luvbugs 01-04-2006, 03:22 PM I like to have a little snack at night also and what works good for me is an otter pop. It satisfies my sweet craving and only has about 20 calories.
Denis 01-04-2006, 03:55 PM Current weight - 100 lbs
Goal - 90 lbs
Exercise = 60 min on treadmil at 3.5 speed with 3% incline
Breakfast - 1 multigrain english muffin with 1 Tbsp simply PB,
Snack - 1 med orange
Lunch - 1 cup brown rice with saute chicken breast with terayika sauce
Snack - 1 cup lowfat vanilla yogurt with 1/4 cup frozen mix berries
Dinner - Not there yet.
I do well during work week because I can stick with schedule. My main problem is on weekend. I don't eat breakfast till 12:00 pm then I skip lunch till 4:00 pm. By that time I'm hungry again so I MOW down some potato chip :emb: :emb:
Cricket 01-04-2006, 05:03 PM When I get the after dinner munchies I eat a bowl of instant flavored oatmeal. I just save around 200 calories and then I get good old oatmeal--it sticks to your ribs, it takes a while to eat cause you have to go slow cause it is HOT so it gives the body time to register it has eaten,it is premeasured and the calories are on the package, it is sweet so its like a dessert, and it is healty to boot. I will sometimes add a sweetener packet to the maple and brown sugar ones. NO extra butter, milk, or sugar of it defeats the whole purpose.
Cricket
Pam and Brandy 01-04-2006, 05:20 PM Ok, I'm back home and my lunch out wasn't a total disaster. I brought a salad and she made chicken cordon bleu. Frozen yogurt for dessert. Fruit for breakfast and now I'll have salad for dinner tonight and I think I might have survived the day. First challenge out of the way!
We even managed to bring the dogs to the park for a 40 minute walk before returning Ogre to the kennels and it turned into a much less stressful event than I was expecting.
Thanks for listening.
Pam
brownie trout 01-04-2006, 05:28 PM thanks for the tips guys they really help. I will give some of them a try.
keep up the good work!
Zoeysmama 01-04-2006, 08:27 PM OMG my legs hurt! I walked 2 miles Mon and Tues. TOnight did 1. Going to pass out now.

10% of weight: 17.5
Goal Weight : 145-150* by May 1st, my 50th birthday!
I am going to eat less, and exercise more! I plan to stay on a healthy diet, and limit my calories to 1200-1500 / day. I plan to walk for one hour at least 5 days per week. I'm going to "weigh-in" every Friday.
I'm so glad we are doing this to support one another!
Cricket 01-04-2006, 09:24 PM I did 3 hours of aerobics and 5 miles on my bike today. Will I be able to even get out of my bed tomorrow at all? DDs (both of them) and I worked out the entire time biggest loser was on. We did basic aerobic moves and took turns on the bike.

crazy4labs 01-04-2006, 09:51 PM Sorry I'm late(wouldn't want KristyM to yell at me again, she's a hard a$$ LOL) so here it is
starting weight 190lbs
10% goal 19lbs
ulitimate goal 130lbs

exercise walking/running 3-4 miles per day(with dogs weather permitting done good so far)
Does anyone else have a problem with a schedule??? I have never been able to get up early as much as I try and the dogs are on our schedule so whenever we get up they get up(they were little alarm clocks when they were little...I miss that) Any suggestions?? I would love to put some order into our house.
lillybenny 01-05-2006, 07:05 AM DId good yesterday...

Lunch - cup of soup.
SNacks sugar free jello
Dinner - veggie
Nighttime snack - sugrafree jello
exercise - hour exercising with exercise ball, paleates.
I leave for Disney today.......this will be hard. On the up side I will be walking for most of the days we are gone.
Jenna 01-05-2006, 07:08 AM Hey everyone :) I did 45 mins on my treadmill this morning. My legs are soooooo sore from walking at night. DH and I have been walking down town and the main drag we walk is quite a stretch. I have had apple juice today but thats it so far. I think I may be following Richard Simmons eating plan, I think its a good one and I did lose 33 pounds using it before. So I am off to the kitchen to find something for breakfast. I hope everyone has a good day! :)
We had a boneless, skinless chicken breast for dinner grilled on our George Foreman grill last night. Randy sauteed some onion, red pepper, diced tomatoes and garlic in a little olive oil to put over the top. Wow -- was that good!! :) Had a small slice of toasted French bread with it and put some of the grilled veggies on that, too. MMMmmmmmmmmmm... :)
Started today with one cup of Kashi cereal (dry) and a packaged cup of apple sauce. I can't eat when I first get up, so I take it with me and eat at my desk when I get hungry. Lunch will be a salad with 2 FF Rye Krisp. For dinner, we're splitting the leftover chicken from last night. I'm so glad he's willing to diet with me! We also have about 1/2 cup sherbert for a treat while watching TV. Sometimes split a bag of light microwave popcorn -- can't stand the FF stuff. I do like the white cheddar cheese flavor!
BTW -- for those who don't know, I'm having my left knee replaced with an artificial joint in early May. That's one reason I need to take off some weight before then -- it'll help with rehab. I need to lose a total of about 80 pounds, so if I can make it to -40 by then, I'd be very happy! :) Meanwhile, I can't do much in the way of working out. I do stay on my feet after work as much as possible and walk around the large parking area at home playing with the dogs. That's about it for now, but hope to get back to my 2 miles a day of walking within 2 months after I have surgery.
michelle24 01-05-2006, 07:18 AM Today will have:
No breakfast
lunch:baked hamburger on whold wheat bread

Tip of the week is a great idea....
here is one...
when ordering salad get your dressing on the side and just dip your fork in it with each bite. Less dressing that way so less calories.

Yeah I saw this tip on a health wise info show in my Dr's office.
It also said dry cereal can be used as a great snack. Not the sugary ones, but the ones high in fiber like cheerios wheat chex etc. Filling and good for you low in calories and almost zero fat.
mickiew 01-05-2006, 07:49 AM I'm not sure if this helps or hurts. I went to a class and learned that 1 pound is equal to 3500 calories. I'm a numbers gal so that helps me set weekly goals. For Christmas I asked for a pretty nice heart rate monitor and was able to program it with my weight, height and workout level and it will tell me how many calories I burn during each workout. It's pretty nice. Anyway, that along with counting calories that I take in, I'm able to determine how close I am to burning that extra pound.
We are weighing in tomorrow right? Once a week on Fridays?
lillybenny 01-05-2006, 07:55 AM I thought it was every other wek. I won't be here tomorrow so I have to weigh in Monday or next Friday.
Mom2Lucky&JJ 01-05-2006, 07:57 AM Sounds like everyone's doing pretty good so far! I haven't been an angel, I'll admit...I had fries last night! :(
Yesterday: Breakfast-Cereal
Snack-Pretzels
Lunch-1/2 BBQ Sandwich and 1/2 cup Broccoli Cheese soup
Supper-Arby's Roasted Chicken Club and fries
Jenna 01-05-2006, 07:58 AM I think it is every other week :)
Yes, every other week on Tuesday is weigh-in, so that'll be the 17th of January.
Syd's Mom 01-05-2006, 08:50 AM I know Lillybenny suggested the cereal. I also heard someone at Weight Watchers suggest the puffed wheat cereal as a snack. I think you can have a cup for only 1 point (weight watchers).

Barb, what flavor kashi are you eating ? I like the GO LEAN cereal. and now they have a GO LEAN hot cereal, kind of like oatmeal - but alot of protein and fiber in it.

I will have oatmeal for breakfast
haven't figured out lunch and dinner yet but i will be good :)
I had popcorn for a snack last night and a few nuts, kept me away from the higher fat snacks I usually give into. Nights are hard for me.
Ravensmom 01-05-2006, 02:19 PM Hi everyone! I didn't work out today, the day got away before I had a chance and now I have extra kids over that I am watching. I did eat a light breakfast and light lunch then blew it with the caramal filled Hersheys kisses. I need to eat them us so there are none left!
Tonights dinner will be a chicken breast and a salad.

Jenna 01-05-2006, 04:55 PM Dont feel so bad Cindy, I had the best intentions today and I did real good up til our walk down main street. My son Kevin works at a coffee house on the same street we walk and me and DH went in to visit him before we went home and I had him make me a ROOTBEER FLOAT.. ! I cant believe I did that but I did. So tomarrow we will walk down a different street since I have no will power!
Syd's Mom 01-05-2006, 05:09 PM I just took Sydney for a short walk this morning. I may walk with my friend tonight. Otherwise, I'll probably walk on the treadmill!
KirbysMama 01-05-2006, 05:46 PM Hey everyone - I got back from doctors and the incision won't close for another TWO weeks and this is being hopefull. So I can't exercise but I am going to get my eating under control.
**for those of you who skip breakfast, I was one of you and would have a horrible plunge in sugar levels about 10 AM and would start searching for snacks. I started eating oatmeal and it gets me through until noon.
**for those who don't like the FF popcorn, I found some spice (chedder flavor) in the grocery store of course I can't remember the name but I found it in WW magizine. I will look when I go to work it is zero points and makes the popcorn taste lots better.
I also can not say enough about cookinglight.com for those with spousal units and kids this would work wonders. You still get to eat sensiable and others won't even know it. DH and I make stuff out of here all the time (and he was one who wouldn't change "eat what he wants to") I made the Rio Grande Meatloaf and that was the end of it. He loved it!
I also have lots of receipes and stuff from WW and cookinglight.
brownie trout 01-05-2006, 06:04 PM For any one interested in joining, weight watchers has free registration going on right now. I do it online and it has great resources for recipes as well as keeping track of you points and excercise and lots of other stuff. It is a big help for me
Rebecca 01-05-2006, 07:38 PM Cindy,
Yep, I have had those caramel kisses too. They are good but that is my big downfall. If I start eating just one or two pretty soon I have 1/2 the bag gone easily. I have also had your reasoning that I need to eat all of something really bad to get it out of the house. Like that makes a lot of sense.
Great dinner though. I also have kids and it makes it hard because they really like all the junk food. But I need to learn and ignore that part.
Keep trecking on!!
Rebecca
crazy4labs 01-05-2006, 07:41 PM i found a great snack Quacker Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate crunch Granola bar it has 25% less sugar than regular and only 100 calories per bar they are awsome and filling perfect for that mid afternoon-hit the vending machine but all there is is crap kinda snack. DH loves it too:) :)
Denis 01-05-2006, 07:42 PM 1/5/06 - 1 hour on treadmil with min 3 speed + 2% incline to max 5 speed + 5% incline. I burned 226 cal and 4.2 miles. I also did 60 reps low abdominal sit up and 60 reps oblique.
Dinner - 1 slice of whole wheat bread with 3 slices of pastrami, 1 serving of Tim's potato chip and 1 can Sprite Zero.
Cricket 01-05-2006, 09:17 PM 1/5/06 3 hours aerobics and 4 miles on the bike and about 1/2 mile walking..it got dark!

Ravensmom 01-06-2006, 06:14 AM Thanks Jenna and Rebecca, I did end up doing a "mini" workout last night, just lifting weights, sit-ups and crunches. The good thing is the caramal kisses are almost gone. If only I could give myself 2 and be happy with that!
Jenna the Rootbeer float sounds good!! I am a slurpee-aholic wonder how many calories are in those bad boys!
Rebecca--How old are your kids?
Cindy
Syd's Mom 01-06-2006, 06:24 AM It will be easier for me once my kids go back to college - on Sunday. We have been going out to lunch etc. plus we have all of these snacks/candy around from Christmas. It is time for it all to go. I don't want it around.
I found this ... maybe it'll help those with no willpower! ;)

Ravensmom 01-06-2006, 06:46 AM Thank you for the Will Power Dust!!!! I will need that today!
Cindy
Jenna 01-06-2006, 10:09 AM Yes Barb! thank you for the *WILL POWER DUST* I will probably need it this weekend. We are very busy on weekends and tend to eat on the run which is not good cas it usually ends up being fast food. But I will try hard to be as good as I can be. Have a good weekend everyone... :)
Jenna~
Rebecca 01-06-2006, 07:24 PM Cindy,
My kids are 20, 18, and 14! The teenage years. They just want to eat and junk food is at the top of their lists.
Has anyone seen the movie, "Super Size me" That pretty much cured me of the Mcdonalds route.
The week-ends are also very hard for me. I always want to reward myself with food. Sigh! I'm trying very hard to stick with everyone though.
Rebecca
Syd's Mom 01-06-2006, 09:14 PM My kids are home from college and when they go back on Sunday it will be easier for me. I'm getting rid of the junk food around here - some left from Christmas - cookies etc.
michelle24 01-07-2006, 08:34 PM I did good. I ate a bowl of corn flakes with 2% milk for breakfast.
Baked burger for lunch.
sandwich on whole grain bread for dinner
leisaanddirk 01-07-2006, 11:18 PM Oh no!! Is it too late to start? I started dieting 5 days ago and then saw this thread! I'll add my stats in case it's not too late to join.
Leisa
200.5 lbs (OMG- I never thought I'd be 200 lbs- SHOOT ME NOW!!)
10% Goal 180.5 (-20lbs)
Ultimate Goal 130.0 (-70.5lbs)
I used to belong to WW and that worked well before so I'm probably going to do that diet. Goal is to drink 1 gallon of water before having a pop/soda (I never eat but drink AT LEAST 12 Mt Dews per day! YIKES!) Don't have a whole lot of tips to offer except to get a scale that measures half pounds, because then you can see a loss even if it is just half a pound which you normally wouldnt see with regular scales.
Also, EAT BREAKFAST! That's what gets your metabolism going for the day.
Good Luck Ladies!
Did anyone mention pairing up people so that we each have a weight loss buddy? I need one. I find it's easier (at least for me) to have someone you're dieting with or checking in with every once in awhile. Anyone interested? Someone who's also on WW would be great as we could share WW points ideas- thanks and good luck ladies
brownie trout 01-08-2006, 12:46 AM leisaanddirk, I am on W.W. and would be glad to pair up with someone. I have a real hard time controling myself at night and would love to have someone who would get on at about 9pm my time to remind me to be good and let me know the are thinking of and pulling for me. I think that would help me. In case you are wondering it is 10:45 pm here right now. If any one is interested in helping me out that way pm me or post a message I will be watching this thread several times a day, except tomorrow eve I am going to the city to visit my Mom and won't be home till early evening monday.
Hang in there everyone and be better than I have today (which shouldn't be too hard)
DROP THOSE POUNDS!!!!!!
ChristyM 01-08-2006, 11:46 AM You all are doing great. Keep up the good work.
Sorry I havent been on in a while but I promise I have been checking in. Just not posting. I have lost some weight about 3lbs so far.
I think I am going to set a goal for myself of 3-4lbs per week. That gives me about 20lbs in six weeks, so I think that will be good. I have went up to an hour of cardio....seeing as the 45 minutes was getting easier.
If any of you have any questions feel free to PM me or someone. I hope you all have a good rest of the weekend! Ill be checking in later on. I probably wont be on much through the week DH is on vacation. So I will be spending time with him. Good luck everyone!
AmandaA 01-08-2006, 02:51 PM I am doing good on my diet so far i have lost 4 pounds.
I do alot of exercising and eat smaller meals. No sweets hehee good work ladies keep it up.. This is such great support I love it.

sebsmom 01-09-2006, 09:20 AM I went to the gym for an hour this morning than came home and took the boys for a 2 mile walk. I haven't gotten on the scale since we started, and I think I probably shouldn't until our official weigh in day. I lose very slowly, and I get really discouraged when I weigh too often.
Just checking in for Monday ... had a pretty good weekend for eating. Took my mom to a nice Italian restaurant for lunch on Saturday. I ordered some fresh veggies grilled in olive oil for lunch with Penne pasta on the side. Ate 1/2 of everything, then my DH wanted Chinese for supper, so I ordered pork chop suey. Only ate 1 cup of the veggie/meat with 1/2 cup of rice. That with a banana for breakfast didn't add up to very much! Yesterday I just wasn't hungry and he was sick. I had a bean burrito for breakfast/lunch then I cooked a turkey breast with some stuffing for dinner. I only had one small slice of turkey and about 1 cup of stuffing. I'm lucky if I had 500 calories total. Just didn't feel like eating! Maybe my willpower dust worked! :D
Jenna 01-09-2006, 10:38 AM Thats probably a good idea sebsmom, I made the mistake of weighing in and seen a 2 pound weight gain. I am trying hard to convince myself I am building muscles from all the walking. yeah right! I really need to become more focused on this and try a harder. Motivation is sooo difficult for me these days.. *sigh*

When is the official weigh in day?
Ravensmom 01-09-2006, 12:28 PM Hi Girls, I am checking in too to say hi and see how everyone did last week.
I've done good so far today but have the rest of the day to make it though! Drinking water right now as I type. Keep wishing for a Pepsi though! Good thing I didn't buy any over the weekend.
Cindy
Syd's Mom 01-09-2006, 03:37 PM I haven't had a good week but hopefully will get on it this week. I weigh in at Weight Watchers on Wednesday. I've just been stressed about lots of stuff going on around here lately. I think the week will get better?
I am ready to get back on track again!
KirbysMama 01-09-2006, 06:31 PM I think the next weigh in is next Tuesday. . I believe we were doing it every two weeks. .
I have done horrible . I need to get to the store for some veggies but I have been so busy I haven't been able to.
leisaanddirk 01-09-2006, 07:56 PM Brownie Trout: I PMed you about becoming Loser Buddies- I think that would be great- Thanks
I know you mentioned in your post about having a hard time eating late at night, have you ever tried plain popcorn with that parkay or I can't believe it's not butter spray or the calorie free popcorn salt by ??????? Thats a good late night snack. I also found that eating at night is less bad if you make little baggies of low-calorie snacks. They're easy to just grab and eat and I found that's what I usually grab then.
leisaanddirk 01-09-2006, 08:06 PM Oh almost forgot- For anyone who's on WEIGHT WATCHERS and sometimes eats the Frozen Smart Ones meals, I just tried the Three Cheese Ziti Marinara and I thought it was excellent!
I also recently tried the one that has chicken breast in a sauce with mashed potatoes and thought it was horrible. The potatoes were tasteless and the chicken wasn't very good either.
Syd's Mom 01-10-2006, 07:44 AM That is a good idea to make snack bags ahead of time! Then I know how much I'm eating!
Also good to know what Weight Watchers dinners people like. I've had some bad ones and am afraid to try others! The pasta sounds pretty safe though.
Rebecca 01-10-2006, 09:49 AM I get very discouraged very fast and then want to give up. I do weigh everyday just to make sure I am loosing but when I don't see a weight loss I get so frustrated. I have done pretty good and lost 4 pounds but then gained 2 back. Whats up with that? I then feel like "what's the point of even trying if I'm not going to loose anyway" I know, I am having a pity party for myself. I wonder if I should not use the scale everyday?
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca, I am not in this group, I probably should be..but I will give you a bit of advice..I lost 80 lbs about 5 years ago, and let me tell you the scales are not your friend...DO NOT weigh yourself everyday, women in general have water weight gain and the amount on the scales will usually change from day to day, some days more water weight, some days not!! Use your clothes as a guide. I use to have this pair of jeans and every Friday I would try them on....and gradually week after week they became loser and loser..that is the best way to tell if you are losing, after all it really does not matter what you weight it is,it is how you feel and how the clothes fit!! Just a suggestion! Good luck to everyone!!
Bull's mama 01-10-2006, 10:16 AM I've always been told not to worry about how much I weigh. The important thing is that my clothes fit well, and I feel good about myself. This is the main reason I do not get on the scale much. You can tell you're losing just by the way your clothes get looses, stomach gets smalles, etc. Try to stay away from the scale as much as you can. Sure, it's nice to know you've lost 10 lbs, but the way I am doing it I don't care as much about the number as I do my size.

Congrats on the 80 lb. weight loss, thats a big acheivement and very good advice for all of us concerning the scale. I dont know why I even have a scale the only thing I ever want to do it beat it up anyway, it seldom brings me good news.. :whip: seriously tho, its probably best to stick to the bi-weekly weight checks, then ya wont get so discouraged. I did 40 mins on my treadmill this morning and I will walk main street tonight. I was really good today with my eating. I should make myself a calendar and give myself a star for today. :)
Ravensmom 01-10-2006, 01:20 PM Jenna, You get a STAR today!!! Great job on the walking this morning!
Cindy
Jenna 01-10-2006, 03:02 PM Thanks Cindy, appreicate the support :) How is Miss Raven doing..?
Pam and Brandy 01-10-2006, 03:17 PM Rebecca - I weigh myself everyday even though I know it is not a true reflection of overall progress. I read someplace that if you weigh yourself everyday, write it down and add up the weightloss/gain numbers after 7 days and take the average as your real number. It got to be too much math for me so I didn't do it but it makes sense.
So many things can effect your daily water weight - obviously, your cycle but also medication you might be taking (even tylenol causes water retention), have you eaten out (chefs consider salt a taste enhancer so you generally get too much salt), etc.
Don't get discouraged with the daily ups and downs - pay attention to the overall loss (that's why the 2 week weigh in should help), how your clothes feel, how your lungs feel when you're working out.
Now, remember all these and when I get totally discouraged in a week or two, remind me I said them!
Pam
brownie trout 01-10-2006, 05:09 PM Hi Guys, well I do a weekly weigh in for W.W. and am down 1/2 lb. Not real encouraging but then I havn't been very good this week. Finally got to town and bought some low fat snacks and will split them into serving size as Leisa suggested, I think that will help.
Leisa I just pm'd you looking forward to doing this as buddies!
I also appreciate the support from everyone else and the tips are a great help.
I am doing 45 minutes of aerobics 3-4 times a week and 30 minutes brisk walking with my dog on other days if the weather isn't too cold. It's hard if its colder than about 20 degrees, even the dog doesn't want to be out there if it's colder than that!
Keep up the good work everyone.
Here is your motivation for the day :bounce: :whip: :bounce: :whip::bounce: :whip: :) :)
BE GOOD!!!!!

Rebecca 01-10-2006, 08:03 PM Thanks for the tips. I'm not going to weigh myself everyday anymore. You are so right about women and water weight. I probably eat too much salt also and really need to cut back on that. I also like the idea of getting some good snacks for the night time. I did have 2 cupcakes today though. Bad me! Someone at work left them there for me and I caved. I will have to work out a little harder tomorrow. I needed just to check in so I would keep going. Thanks everyone!
Rebecca
lillybenny 01-10-2006, 08:26 PM Just checking in. Walked all weekend from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Disney.Literally walked most of the day, have blisters to prove it. Walked tonight with the girls for an hour. ALso didt the exercise ball.
Cricket 01-10-2006, 08:49 PM I had lunch at applebees but ate off the weight watchers menu so I was good. Then I went to my sisters and didn't eat any roast and tatares and the cheese cake she kept trying to make me eat
In over a week I have not had over 1200 cal and most days I work out 3 hours. I have lost 5 lbs so far!
It did take me 2 hours to buy $117 worth of food last night though lol. All that label reading and compairing labels and prices to boot. Lots of work but worth it!
PS 93/7 ground beef has 170 calories for 1/4 a lb.

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty good with eating and exercise...
Syd's Mom 01-10-2006, 09:21 PM I weigh in at Weight Watchers tomorrow. I don't think it will be good. I was doing great until my kids came home from college. We had a lot of stuff going on around here. NOW , I'll concentrate on myself - again.
medstudent28 01-10-2006, 09:52 PM For those of you who were discourage about weight, DON'T BE!!! Weight loss is very slow. I would have to also encourage not to weight yourself everyday (once a week or every two weeks would be better). Also keep track of inches for women especially around the waist, hips and arms; for men mainly in the stomach. This will give you the best idea or how much fat you are actually losing.
If you are exercising when you weren't before, you will probably actually gain weight the first couple of weeks. First, you will add muscle (no matter how low intensity your exercise is) which weighs more than fat. Also, your body will store more food at first to make up for the increased energy demands. Stick with it, soon the weight will start dropping.
I always tell people that are trying a new diet; to allow one meal a week where you eat whatever you want. One meal a week really won't hurt your goals, but it will definitely improve your ability to stick with it.

Such good (and true) advice. I always start off on diets great- throw myself into them completely- but then soon fall off the wagon as I am often too strict with my dieting- it doesn't hurt to splurge once a week, considering before dieting I was splurging every day. It so much easier to stick to a diet that's not so restricted. For instance I LOVE soda pop (Mt Dew and Coke) so instead of being unrealistic for myself and saying NO POP- I just decided I'd have to drink a WHOLE gallon of water each day BEFORE I can have my pop. That way- I dont cut it out completely- yet still have something healthy to drink before my "treat"
I do have a question about exercising though...... You all seemed to have jumped right into the exercising part and seem to be enjoying it- or at least doing it several times a week- how do you do that? I hate exercising- with a passion- it is my enemy. I find it so hard to start. Especially in COLD Chicago Area Winters. Has anyone tried Walk Away the Pounds DVD or one of those Exercise Balls? I had foot surgery 2 weeks ago and need to start off with something very easy on the feet. Anyone like those exercise balls? Do they really work?
leisaanddirk 01-11-2006, 12:09 AM WATER!
I just read back all the posts from page 1 and saw that alot of people mentioned having a hard time drinking their water. Let's face it that stuff is pretty tasteless and not near as fun to drink as a soda-pop LOL
I thought the lemon and sweetner idea was a good one.
Also, the flavored carbonated water tastes pretty good. I buy mine from Walmart and they have all sorts of flavors- strawberry peach cranberry apple blackberry etc etc and they're ZERO CALORIES.
Another tasty treat I like is Apfel Schorle (german) You mix 1/2 half plain carbonated water and 1/2 apple juice. Tastes good I think. It is however DEFINATELY not calorie free and has about as many calories as a can of coke but it's definately better for you.
Also, I believe Country Time Lemonade has cans of 5 calorie Pink and Regular Lemonades and I've always thought that the Pink Lemonade and Kiwi-Strawberry Crystal Light mixes were good for only 5 calories.
I mix all these drinks in empty water bottle containers- that way they're just as easy to grab out of the fridge as a coke. If you're like me and drink soda alot because it's something easy to just grab out of the fridge and drink without having to mix anything or get a glass this has worked great for me usually.
Ravensmom 01-11-2006, 06:22 AM Leisa--I have the workout ball with the DVD Core Secrets. It is one of my favorite workouts. I try and keep the ball in the family room(hubby keeps tossing it down the stairs) so I can sit on it when typing at the computer. I think the set sells for 39.00 at Target. If you already have a workout ball I would suggest checking the local video rental stores or library for workout DVD's to try.
Jenna, Raven would love to be Jackson's Valentine. I am going to take a picture of her sitting up like Jackson so you can see how much they look alike!
I like the idea of treating ourselves--not going overboard but treating ourselves once or twice a week.
(we need our own section so we can start new treads on various subjects)
Anyone see the advertisement in magazines of a dog with her leash on and the caption is "Think of her as a treadmill with fur" I love that ad! don't remember what they are selling(shoes maybe) but I love the ad.

You have to find something you like that is fun. Hard to do I know, but I really like the exercise ball. It is fun. I crank up the music and my son and I have a blast on it.
Syd's Mom 01-11-2006, 08:08 AM I don't have experience with the exercise ball.
I do try to walk with my friend but this time of year is hard sometimes.
I also go to the YMCA for a strength/step class. I have to make myself go but feel better after I go.
brownie trout 01-11-2006, 01:27 PM making myself exercise is the hardest part of trying to get healthy. I hate it but always feel better after I do it. The one exercise I wish I could do, swimming, is unavailable to me :( I love to swim! So I just make myself pull out that video and do it anyways.
I like the idea of the exercise ball but I don't have room in my very small house for one. So aerobics and walking are my only choice. Sometimes you have to do things you don't like and this is one of them. I do however get a lot of support from my family and many pats on the back for doing it so that helps.
and the support from all of you really helps also!
Maggie-Mae 01-11-2006, 01:52 PM I'm weighing in finally! No excuses! Here goes: 180 pounds. Would love to lose a total of 40 pounds. Started exercising again and watching portion control. Am I the only one that wants to lose that much???

Ravensmom- I actually bought one (the purple one) - at Target too- with good intention of using it- but it basically stayed in my toddler son's room as a big fun ball to play with and then when we moved I let all the air out and put it and the dvd back in the box- been collecting dust in my closet ever since LOL
I'm going to try to dust it off today or tonight and use it finally.
I wish I had my dog already- at least that would give me an excuse to go for a walk all the time even in the colder weather when I dont really feel like it. I mean, who can say no to a dog that's begging with those puppy eyes to be taken out for a walk? LOL
Oops forgot something: (we need our own section so we can start new treads on various subjects I agree- it would be easier to post things and read things if we had our own thread.
Ravensmom 01-11-2006, 03:43 PM Hey Brownietrout don't be discouraged by lack of space. Store the ball in the shower when not using it. I have the DVD core secrets(and ball) and love it. I love to swim too! We have a pool but live in MI and have all 4 season so we swim only about 3 months out of the year. I love walking with Raven but now we have winter and its raining and cold.
Has anyone tried Billy's Boot Camp??? How is it? Looks good on the informerical.
I get discourged when the workouts are too long. I can handle 25 minutes but when the workouts are an hour long forget it.
I did my Core secrets this morning. I use the ball to sit on at my computer instead of a chair--that way I am keeping my abs ingaged(or so they say)
I also stopped at Wendy's for lunch after work--oops! I got a grilled chicken sandwich and a plain ice tea.
How is everyone else doing???
Cindy
Ravensmom 01-11-2006, 03:45 PM Liesa--Your new house is beautiful!!!!!
That is funny that your son had the ball. My kids wanted it for a plaything too but I told them its MINE!!
I like the Core Secrets.

Syd's Mom 01-11-2006, 03:55 PM I weighed in at Weight Watchers today and I gained 2 lbs. Actually, I wasn't surprised and thought it wouldl be more. I kind of took a little "break" from it when my kids came home. So, I knew what I was in for
NOW, I'm back on track and ready to forge ahead!
I even paid for a seasons pass which in the long run is less than paying weekly. So, that will make me stay on the ball.
Plus, having everyone here and all of the info. here will be GREAT!
Ravensmom 01-11-2006, 04:16 PM Syd's mom--hang in there, I am glad you are back on track. Keep checking in with the group, we'll keep you motivated!

Britt&Breezie 01-11-2006, 04:52 PM Starting Weight: 143
Goal: 110
Exercise: Walking & Horse-Back Riding
Food: think if i just exercise it will help because im only thirteen but i eat quite abut of junk food and not much excersise!
I know it sounds like a lot to lose but just maybe!
Britt&Breezie 01-11-2006, 04:55 PM oh and I forgot at the end of the month I can start swimming at the pool. It's closed for 1 month.
Rebecca 01-11-2006, 05:01 PM Wow! I love all these tips. They are great! I really wish we had our own section because it's hard keeping up.
Love the ideas on the low-cal drinks. I am going to the store tonight to get some crystal light and lemonade. The once a week meal is a great idea so I won't feel deprived. I am glad we are getting reminders that taking off the weight is alot harder then putting it on. I hate it being so slow but it gives me hope that everyone else is going through the same thing.
I don't mind walking and yes my dog REALLY likes it. Even though it is rainy all the time lately. I actually love walking just about anytime except if it's really hot. I do have to push myself to get started at times but I am always glad I do. Of course I don't live in some of the severe weather areas.
I'm taking a class next week with the ball so I am looking forward to that since I have never tried it.
Rebecca
Rebecca 01-11-2006, 05:03 PM I have a question for you all. I am cutting my calories back to 1500 a day. For me that's alot from how much I was eating before and not even realizing it. I see some of you are at 1200 calories a day. I think I would starve to death with that. Does anyone know of a good way to figure out how many calories you need to loose weight but not starve? So far this cutting back the calories is the only thing I can stick to so that's why I am trying it this way.
Rebecca
Jenna 01-11-2006, 05:44 PM Hi everyone,
I had mickey d's for dinner because by the time we stopped working it was too late to start cooking. I did pick the chicken ceaser salad and water. eww water.. :) DH and I just got back from walking, we went a little longer tonight cas it's not cold out. I am heading to the store now. I can shop for healthy foods and another good thing about going to the stores this time of night is it wont be too crowded. I can relax and take my time or I could get a little more exercise in and run up and down the isles. ;) Hope everyone had a good day, if not, tomarrow is new day..
brownie trout 01-11-2006, 06:12 PM well I did 45 minutes of aerobics and then walked 30 minutes with the dogs which made them happy.
I have had a lean quisine panini sandwich, something new they now have and it was good! 6 points I have been drinking water instead of pop and have a 11 point dinner planned. plus the sugar in my coffee this AM and I am up to 20 points I. get 24 daily + 4 for my workout so I have enough leeway for a popcorn snack tonight. so far so good. Hope I can control myself tonight.
Hang in there everyone you are doing good!
leisaanddirk 01-11-2006, 07:17 PM Liesa--Your new house is beautiful!!!!!
That is funny that your son had the ball. My kids wanted it for a plaything too but I told them its MINE!!
Oh Thankyou! We just moved in this summer- it's our first house and very long awaited (we've been married 7 years) I've been having a great time blowing my savings on new furniture. :) The wallpaper removal though- eh- that's another story- not coming off too easily. But otherwise- we love it.
Luvmydudley 01-11-2006, 07:52 PM I'm jumping on. My Best Friend gets married in August and I don't want to be fat again in a halter bridesmaid dress - just doesn't look good. Did that this past July!
Starting Weight: 275 (Youch!)
Goal: 200 (to start)
Exercise: Bought the biggest loser book and am going to follow that exercise regime. Right now it's 30 min aerobic exercise 3 x per week. Next week it's 45 min aerobic exercise 3 x per week. Currently I'm doing that on my NordicTrak Ski Machine.
I just love to eat - whether I'm hungry or not. I need to change my mindframe to eat for sustinance....
I think this thread is a wonderful idea!
lillybenny 01-11-2006, 07:53 PM Just got back from doing the elpitical and doing exercise ball. My quads are shot, I knew the right quad was bad becauethey used part of my hamstring from that leg to rebuild my acl nd then I hadtheknee replacment, but OMG I can't believe how weak that leg is. It didfeel great to be on the eliptical because Ifelt like I was running, something I can not do for real. Inever though i would say it feels good to run.I guess you take if for granted when you can do it. I will never be able to run again, but this sure did come close. My sister bought themachine and said I can use it anytime. So Yeah. Glad to see everyone is doing so good. For those ho had a weak moment, don't beat your self up, it happens. Tomorrow is another day. It truly helps to have one day in the week where you can be bad. Sat.is my day.
medstudent28 01-11-2006, 09:45 PM I have a question for you all. I am cutting my calories back to 1500 a day. For me that's alot from how much I was eating before and not even realizing it. Rebecca
You don't want to cut your calories too quickly. If you cut a lot of calories all at once, you body thinks that it is starving and store everything you eat as fat. Try cutting whatever you are eating now by 500 cal. Try that for 2 weeks; then cut another 500 and so on to you reach your desired calories. It will help you lose in the long run.

This is the smart to do it and since you're so young it's the only way you should do it..I love how you don't even mention the word diet...too many young girls are literally starving themselves and I give you credit for being a level headed girl and wanting to do it right and to keep yourself healthy.
Walking will help alot...power walking is really good..but work yourself up to it and you will see results very quickly.
Ravensmom 01-12-2006, 06:28 AM Good Motto Brownietrout!
I did half and hour of Core Secrets yesterday and my legs are killing me! I'll just be working on the arms and abs today.
Cindy
I am so envious of you that can work out. *Sigh* Maybe after my knee surgery this spring... Meanwhile, I did weigh in this week and have lost 5 pounds since the first weigh-in 9 days ago! :) I do have to have my fat free sherbert every night to satisfy my craving for sweets, but otherwise am being a very good girl! :D I had 1/2 can of lite pear halves for breakfast today and am having a salad with some sliced turkey breast on it for lunch. An orange for a snack this afternoon and not sure at all what's for dinner yet. Something bland since DH is not feeling well.
scposie 01-12-2006, 08:44 AM OK so can I join in 9 days after the thread started?
Origional weight was 16st. 2lbs Summer 2004
that was 226lbs
Got down to 180lbs in 18 months, hard going.
GOAL: Target weight
150lbs.
Am trying to get back into the gym and walking Becky on longer walks after the Christmas but have a christening coming up with loads of food and drink....
Maggie-Mae 01-12-2006, 09:18 AM Leisa~ Love your house! Wishing you much happiness in your new home. It's so exciting getting your first home. I just got back from a company trip held in Schaumburg, IL...I keep thinking we're living in the wrong part of the country everything here is so flippin' expensive......I started looking into the Raleigh/Durham NC area. I can't believe the difference in home prices from this area. We just might make that move ourselves yet.....
sebsmom 01-12-2006, 09:40 AM I made a decision today to go back on the South Beach diet.
I got down to 175 pounds drastically cutting down carbs. After almost two years, I was very fatigued most of the time. When I started eating a more balanced menu, weight started creeping back on. When I got near 200 pounds, I just gave up and ate whatever I wanted. I have tried to hold my head high and do Weight Watchers. I have tried to accept the fact that I'm going to lose very slowly, but I just can't stick with it when I go for weeks floowing the plan perfectly and working out, and I lose about a pound. With nearly eighty pounds to lose, it makes me feel like I'll never see any results.
I hope that this diet wil be the answer for me. I know I can loswe weight by restricting carbs, but I know I don't want to feel as listless as I did after cutting them out completely for nearly two years.
Thanks for letting me ramble. Please cross your fingers for me. I really hope to be successful.
Maggie-Mae 01-12-2006, 10:15 AM Sebsmom~ YOU CAN DO IT! I think we've all been there....thinking this is it-this is the diet that's going to work. I notice the older I get the harder it either becomes or the more my will power goes to the wayside.Hey, I think that was a lighbulb moment for me.... I was told after doing many yo-yo diets on and off over the past few years to stop calling it a diet and really start thinking of it as a lifestyle change. This will not be a temporary thing for me this is something I will have to follow the rest of my life. I have a friend in her late 40's and she is doing it and looks fabulous. For exercise she swims. She told me that doing laps is an excellent form of exercise. The local YMCA's usually have a great package deal to use their pool and even have family plans. I have to admit the thought of putting on a bathing suit right now scares me but it has to be done....especially seeing that I will be going to Mexico in March with my company. But....WE CAN DO THIS! No more yo-yo diets it's time for a lifestyle change.
Rebecca 01-12-2006, 10:21 AM Sebs mom,
You have to do what works best for you. I know how discouraging it can be when we try so hard and the weight doesn't come off as fast as we feel it should. Why is it that it is soooooooo easy to put the weight on but soooo hard to take it off?
Hang in there! You can do it. Keep checking in here. This has really helped me so far. Great tips in here too.

This is a really good workout - you can purchase the video's at Target.
As for my weigh in...Last Tuesday, I was at 180. This morning....175.
I have combined cardio and weight training and cut back on serving sizes.
Now, If I can only take off 5 more lbs between now and next week....
sebsmom 01-12-2006, 11:20 AM Thanks, Maggie-Mae and Rebecca. I know that checking in here will be encouraging.
Ravensmom 01-12-2006, 12:15 PM Rebecca --check out the web site tgates posted.
The workout is on a ball and is available at Target. I love it! You work legs, abs and arms. I use 5 lb hand weights during all the arm workout stuff. It comes with two DVD's to work out to. One is 20 minutes long and the other is an accelerated workout that is about 50. I can't last the whole 50 but will do at least a half hour of that one. They have an informerical out too, thats how I found out about it.
Cindy
Rebecca 01-12-2006, 12:48 PM Cindy,
Thanks for the info. I am off to Costco to get a ball. I know last week they had them for $14.99 with probably a DVD with it. I am taking a one time class next week to learn more about this ball etc.
I am going to check on the Target one also.
Thanks,
Rebecca
Ravensmom 01-12-2006, 02:03 PM Rebecca, The Core secrets I bought came with the ball. I think you can buy it both ways.
Let me know what you get and how you like it.
I am thinking of checking video rental stores and the library to see if I can rent Ball workout DVD's so I can mix it up a bit. My neighbor has a DVD burner so he can copy them for me.

Syd's Mom 01-13-2006, 06:31 AM This is really great! I am so glad to have this group to exchange info. with and keeping in touch to stay motivated!
lillybenny 01-13-2006, 06:52 AM Walked 2 miles last night. Ate subway for lunch and only half of serving of beef strogonoff for dinner. Sugar free jello for snack. Doing pretty good I think.
Jenna 01-13-2006, 07:39 AM Good Job lillybenny! How's everyone else doing? I am hanging in there, some days are definately better than others, but I havent given up yet so thats a good thing :)

yahpetrescue 01-13-2006, 08:42 AM Don't know if today is check in day or not, but I'm checking in! Mostly because I need to be held accountable for doing squat this past week :)
Original Weight: 160
Today's weight: 157.8 (Digital scale :) )
Goal: 130-135
Downfalls: cannot find the time to exercise with the rescue and my son, who is now deciding to give up naps. Must... find... willpower!!! This week, I will attempt to get on the treadmill EVERYDAY, even if it is only for 5 minutes. I can squeeze that in somehow.
Good tip: Quaker Oats Caramel Corn Rice Cakes for those who like crunchy snacks. Crumble a couple up and snack on them like chips, but much less calories and a great taste!
brownie trout 01-13-2006, 06:06 PM well I have been good just finished my 45 min aerobic workout and guess what, My DH did it with me! He want's to do it everyday on his 3 days off with me which will help to keep me motivated. He also told me he can feel my shape changing allready after only 10 days. Wahoo!!!!!!!

Syd's Mom 01-14-2006, 09:25 PM I got one of the exercise balls at TJ Maxx but haven't tried it yet. I may try it now that some of you have "endorsed" it!
Jenna 01-15-2006, 09:03 AM Well the weekend is over *thank god* I was really horrible. Some major crap came down on me this weekend and how did I deal with it??? I ate icecream sodas, like three of them. Not in a row, but three over the two days. I am suprised at myself. I have never been the type to use food for comfort. I have actually been the opposite, when i get upset I refuse eating. So I disappointed in myself, but its not the end of the world or my healthier eating plan. I will get back on it today and add an extra day to my work out this coming week. This is gonna be a little harder than I thought. I hope everyone else here had a more successful weekend!!
Jenna~
brownie trout 01-15-2006, 01:40 PM Thanks to the motivation from my DH I had a good weekend now if I can just keep it up.
I talked to my Mom yesterday who is almost 79 and she is staying on her diet and going to exercise 3 times a week! If she can do it so can we!
Be strong everyone!
Syd's Mom 01-15-2006, 05:18 PM I need to do BETTER tomorrow. I'm having a tough time getting back on track.
I'll check in and make sure I am being good tomorrow!
Rebecca 01-15-2006, 08:54 PM Jenna,
I always use food for comfort. I was a little stressed today and I ate way more then I should have. It just doesn't feel like my pants are getting a whole lot looser. I stopped weighing myself everyday because then I want to quit. I have been really good about walking 2.5 to 5 miles a day but I'm not sure that is enough to loose the weight. My biggest problem is the food.
Tomorrow's a new day everyone. Let's hang in there together. We can do this!!!!!!!

My mom is also 79, Laurie! :) Over the past 4 years, she's lost over 100 pounds. Slowly but surely. The only thing she's doing different is having only a Slimfast or a yogurt for lunch with a banana. That's it -- otherwise, she eats what she always used to. I think as people age, they tend to eat smaller portions, too. She's looks great, though, and she's my inspiration! :)
It's a new day and a new week ... everyone be strong and eat carefully! I find writing down everything I put in my mouth is a big help. You can think twice about what you're doing right or wrong.
Ravensmom 01-16-2006, 06:06 AM Hi Girls~ are we weighing in today? I have to workout and get on the scale. I'll check back in later.
p.s. I am puppy sitting this morning--Raven and her playdate are having a great time, I think Raven will lose about 5 lbs this morning!

Timberlabs 01-16-2006, 07:35 AM I can't weigh in..I don't own a scale :) hehe. But dh did ask me yesterday if I was losing more weight..now he was hungry at the time so I think he was either being honest or just begging a meal ;) I think he was being honest because my jeans are getting looser on me. I have stopped using white sugar..it wasn't easy but I did it. I drink either water or ice green tea and of course coffee cant' live w/o coffee.
Keep up the good work everyone...you're worth it!!!
Ravensmom 01-16-2006, 08:17 AM Thanks Jenna, Tuesday it is! I just looked back at the first post. Good cuz I didn't get to work out yet unless I can consider chasing to crazy labs and two kids around the house a workout!!!
I will get my workout in it just might have to wait until later.

Zoeysmama 01-16-2006, 09:26 AM Well I did good the first week walked 3 days 2 miles 2 times and 1 mile 1 time ( got pms problems so couldnt do the rest of the week. Went bowling that sat. Is pretty good excersize for the tummy.
week 2 didnt do as good did do bowling that sat.
This week I started off with trying out that biggest losers dvd I heard mentioned on here. WOW I thought I was going to die lol. I had to stop for a min as I thought I was going to pass out but I continued and when I couldnt do something I still kept moving in the position he mentioned. I am REAL tired. I think I better save this excersize for the mid afternoon when I am not so morning sore. And I thought the treadmill was a torture chamber. I am going to go kiss it now.......
Ravensmom 01-16-2006, 09:49 AM Zoeysmom--you crack me up!!!!!!
Jenna:
DD wanted to take the labs out for a walk this morning but too cold for me, plus we'd have to drag DS along kicking and screaming because we can't bring the gamecube with us!
Labpuppy went home and Raven is out cold on the couch. I hope she lost a couple lbs!
Have to go clean the house before DD's doctor appointment. Lots of dog fur floating around!

I have been good, working out a lot (aerobics and walking) and I feel tighter but not sure it will show on the scale. We will see tomorrow LOL
Jenna 01-16-2006, 06:14 PM I had a good day today with working out and eating real healthy, but to be honest its the first day I felt like it went really alright in the two weeks I have been trying. Maybe its all finally coming together after a slow start, hope thats the case. Anyway, good luck everyone for tomarrow.
Jenna~
Treat Dispenser 01-16-2006, 06:28 PM I'm not sure how much I weigh, but I know I don't fit into my favorite jeans! When I looked at this thread, I thought it was for lab weight loss. Bear needs to lose quite a bit too. He's on Benadryl and it makes him lethargic. I had to take him off the low-cal food because of the allergies. As for me, I don't have an excuse. Tomorrow I start my student teaching. I'm doing special education. I'm a little nervous. It's my second career and I'll be the old lady student. Keeping busy all day should help me. I will eat more healthy too.
Brenda the human treat dispenser
Rebecca 01-16-2006, 11:47 PM Zoeysmom,
I also just got the biggest looser dvd last night. I tried it today and I could not believe how tired I got. I was only able to do 10 minutes before I had to rest. Wow! Thats a good work-out. I don't feel like I have lost any weight but someone told me today that I looked trimmer. Well see tomorrow. I'm still having a hard time with the food issue. I just need to fill full if I'm not I will start eating everything in site. I can't seem to balance the 1500 calories with that yet. I will keep trying though.
Rebecca
Zoeysmama 01-17-2006, 04:57 AM My legs hurt SOOOOOO bad I am walking like I am 90 and need a cane!! I am going to try and walk today to at least move these stiff muscles. I knew they were under this flab somewhere and now I have the proof.
BWT I think Bob is trying to kill me.
sebsmom 01-17-2006, 06:56 AM Okay, I weighed in today, and although I wish I would have lost more, at least it's going in the right direction.
Starting weight: 215
2 week loss - 2.5
Current Weight 212.5
I really need to buckle down on the exercise. I'm on my way to do step aerobics now. I am really interested in the Biggest Loser dvd after reading about it from Zoeysmama and Rebecca. I think I'll order one for myself! Thanks for the tip, girls.
edited to add: Have a great week everyone!
mickiew 01-17-2006, 07:06 AM I'm weighing in:

I am using the Core Secrets workout 3x's a week. Need to dust off the treadmill and hop on it 2x's a week. Also need to quit eating so much junk food!!!! Had PMS end of last week and ate my weight in chocolate.
Anyone's lab help them work out? Everytime I am on the floor doing floor exercises I have Raven dropping her toys on me and trying to get me to play.
Good luck everyone!
Cindy
Ravensmom 01-17-2006, 07:12 AM Vitamins anyone??
does anyone take vitamins? I bought the CVS brand Weight Sharp just like the Centrum(I think) weight smart ones. I have been taking them for 3 days and I swear I have more energy.

KirbysMama 01-17-2006, 08:51 AM Okay I started at:
138.4
today is 137.2
not a big loss but considering I have not exercised eaten terribly at least it is a loss
ColtandCooper 01-17-2006, 09:00 AM I want to join in!! I know I am late, but can I play too????:bounce: Angi
Zoeysmama 01-17-2006, 09:12 AM Weigh in
Starting weight 239
Todays weight-237
Concidering pms put a damper on my second week not bad I guess. Has anyone noticed depending on what time of day you weigh yourself it changes by 2-3 lbs? It it probably important to weigh yourself at the same time of day? Maybe I just have a weird body.
I have changed my diet a little more. I am doing the cereal for breakfast and lunch and small dinner. wasnt to bad as long as I stay busy and keep my mind off it.
And yes Zoey loves to get in the way when I am trying to work out to the dvd but she just paces when I am on tredmill. She's a nut!
I want to join in!! I know I am late, but can I play too????:bounce: Angi
Of course you can join!! We weigh in every other Tuesday (starting today for you). :)
My starting weight was 255 (it REALLY hurts to admit that! :emb: )
Today 249
Loss of 6 pounds in 2 weeks. I'll take it! :) If I can keep up at 2-3 pounds a week, I'd be very happy!!
yahpetrescue 01-17-2006, 09:24 AM I always heard that it was best to weigh yourself first thing in the morning. Anybody hear this or have a better time?
sebsmom 01-17-2006, 09:27 AM Way to go Sebsmom and mickiew!!!!!
Cindy
Thanks, Cindy! :cheers2: to everyone for working so hard the past two weeks. (That's water in those mugs, btw.)
Jenna 01-17-2006, 09:38 AM NO success here ladies. :roll2: I really debated on posting today. I kind of wanted to hide in the closet all day and not look at my computer. I went up two pounds the first week and now the second week I am exactly where I started so I cant really say I lost two pounds. I am not discouraged, just disappointed its going alot slower than I anticipated in the beginning. But this only means I need to crack down on my exercise program because apparently I am only doing enough to sustain my weight and not lose any. So onto the next two weeks. Congrats to all of you who have lost weight tho, you are doing great! :)
Jenna~
ColtandCooper 01-17-2006, 09:38 AM APPLAUSE to everyone!!! Thanks for letting me in!!! I am lame (well I don't want to step on a scale on a regular basis) I don't have a scale. I will go to my friend's 2 nite (It's AMERICAN IDOL TONIGHT too!)
Here is what my plan is:
I think my weight is 150. ( I will get my hands on a scale)
Goal is 130-135 before March 31st---bikini day!!!
I am going to drink only water iced tea or milk.
I am going to try to do Denise Austin DVD daily (this is where I need the support!!!) My puppy is too young to go on walks :(
NO sweets!!!!!!! Unless I am desperate then maybe frozen yogurt or chocolate mousse yogurt!
Take all natural "lean" diet supplement
Take vits & Omega 3 FA
GEEEZEEEE I will need a vacation after this!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bounce: (this is me exercising!!)
ourshiloh 01-17-2006, 10:04 AM Congrats to all the "losers". GREAT JOB!
Weigh in: 237
Todays weigh in: 232
Loss: 5 pounds
I am following weight watchers diet, eating lots of fruit and veggies and drinking LOTS of water. I still can't exercise a lot right now, but I am trying to walk a little more each day.
mickiew 01-17-2006, 10:21 AM Congrats on the loss Barb!! That's a big loss and you should be very proud.
Everyone else should be proud also! Loss or not (Jenna)!!! The losses will come. The big part is getting motivated. Everyone's motivation is different. First and foremost, your decision to make this change HAS TO BE FOR YOU! If you are trying to do it for anyone else, you will struggle.
I used to be married and he would tell me all the time how FAT I was!! ( I got smart 6 years ago!) I tried to lose weight, but it was always for him. That is NOT motivation. My current motivation is simply to be healthy. I want to enjoy doing outdoor activities. Getting Ely was the best motivation because I get to walk with her everyday!!
Keep your chin up ladies! We will all get there! My change was 2 years in the coming! I made small changes, like 2 years ago it was no food 2 hours before bed and last year it was 1 pop a day. Changes like those were hard, but helped prepared me for now. So make small changes first if that is all you can do right now. Then add the more difficult things later.
Sorry - I'm super hyper today!! Just ignore me!!
Jenna 01-17-2006, 10:35 AM [QUOTE=mickiew]Congrats on the loss Barb!! That's a big loss and you should be very proud.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I really do appreciate it. :)
Pam and Brandy 01-17-2006, 10:35 AM Congratulations to everyone - even if it was just because you came and weighed in again.
My turn - I was so shocked, I actually had to go back and check to see if I remembered my start right correctly.
Original - 216
Today - 210
Of course, I had some Christmas weight which must have come off pretty easy. I think it will be harder from this point on. I love this 2 week weigh in!

Cricket 01-17-2006, 11:55 AM Start weight was 145
2 weeks weight is 136--last night it said 135.9! ARGH!
I really wanted to be 135 but it was just not to be.
Next goal in 2 weeks is to be 133. Stop weight is 120-125. I am 5'4 and 36 years old.
We shall seeif I reach my next goals.
Today I did a mile or 30 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minutes of streches, 15 minutes of abs. I will hope on the bike tonight and do some aerobics.
So far my calorie count today is at about 500 so I have room for a nice dinner and a snack.
1200 cals a day and 1-3 hours of exercise a day---it works. My flabby stomach is getting so firm! I LOVE it!

lillybenny 01-17-2006, 12:08 PM I am not weighing I am taking my measurements. It seems I am down a inch of my waist. I walked twice yesterday. Once iwth the dogs and thne 3 mies with my friends last night. Tonight I will do the eliptical since it is raining. I try to vary it up between the ball, walking and the eliptical. Those are the only thrre things I can do with my knee other than swimming and I have to wait until summer for that. Congrats to everyone. I am so proud of you guys for sticking to this.
brownie trout 01-17-2006, 12:37 PM well I havn't done as well as I hoped but everyone tells me that when you start to exercise you build muscle and it weighs more than fat so I hope that is what is happening.
My start weight was 204.6
today I was 204
I have been good and working out everyday for the first time in my life. My Dh says there are a few fat bumps that are gone, he sees a differance so that is positive.
Congratulations to all of you, you have all done awsome. Keep up the good work.

Yeah I was told you build muscle when you first start out exercising, which is good because muscle helps burn fat even when your not working out. at least this is what I was told by the lady at the health clinic. Maybe in the next two weeks I will have better news to post at weigh in time.. :) Hang in there brownie trout.. :)
brownie trout 01-17-2006, 01:21 PM Thanks Jenna, I'm hanging in there. The change in shape is what I am holding onto this week :)
ColtandCooper 01-17-2006, 01:29 PM Is there a web site out there that has calorie counts??? I am wondering about fruits & veggies & meats so that when I cook I can count accurately. Hang in there everyone that is not seeeing results yet. A lot of times what is lost in the beginning is water. So DO NOT give up!!!!!!!!!!!
Syd's Mom 01-17-2006, 01:52 PM I have stayed the same this week. I haven't had a good week but am weighing in at Weight Watchers tomorrow and will get back on track this week for sure.
I got rid of all of the "tempting" food snacks that were around over the weekend when my daughter had 6 college friends with her here for the weekend!
