I can tell you that I’ve lost (around) 30 lbs following Weight Watchers Online since June of '06. I have found a wonderfully supportive buddy on this lab site though who is also following Weight Watchers (Charlene/ Ourshiloh), who has also lost a lot of weigh too.

I still have officially 36 more pounds to go… but will be starting to feel really good once I hit 20 more! I want to be to at least 20 more by May of '07in time for our vacation!

I weigh in on Wednesday Mornings and will post my losses (hopefully they all are) on here!! :) :)

Good Luck Everyone!! :) :)

Ronda you have done a great job so far. You will get the additional weight off in no time. I will be starting next week! I have 20 to take off my new job which I have been at for 7 months is very food motivated. They always have food around, luncheons almost every other day.

Okay...My original goal was to hit thirty pounds by the end of the year. I am officially at 29.6 pounds LOST. I haven't quite made THAT goal......BUT....The goal that I was able to achieve was an even bigger accomplishment for me.

I made it through all the holidays (so far) WITHOUT GAINING any weight.
I have actually LOST (three pounds) since Thanksgiving. It doesn't sound like a lot, but at this time of year I would have been happy to just maintain. :)

I still have forty pounds I want to lose and will work hard to achieve it by summer of 2007.

I weigh-in on Wednesday evenings. I go to the meetings and will always try to share any helpful tips. :)

Count me in girls!! I'm hoping to drop about 30 lbs by summer.... :D I've decided to really crack down starting next week. No more sweets!! Since we're trying to have another baby, I may have to drop out, but I'm gonna start now. My doctor says that loosing weight will probably help me get pg, since we've been trying for 5-6 months with no luck :(

Does this support group come with duct tape to put over mouths of members who cannot stay out of the holiday goodies (like me?!) I had lost a bunch of weight in the fall but I'm sure most of it is back now and I feel like a COW! Moooooooo! :floor

Count me in; it's time to get back on track for 2007!!

With the holidays coming to an end, it'll be a good time for everyone to revisit a healthier eating and exercise routine. I, for one, don't have any willpower against the cookies and candies at our office. And then when I get home, I'm too lazy to get out to the gym. No wonder I feel sluggish. :D I plan on re-assessing my eating habits and getting back on track immediately! Good luck to everyone on achieving your goals!

I lost 2 pounds since starting ediets, but I need to lose 20lbs to get down to a happy weight!

I plan on eating better (chocolate mmmm :( and getting the gym a few times a week.
I realize that walking the doggies is not a replacement for doing weights at the gym, of course if I bench press the puppies.....

I will tell you what I think.

You see, egyptian workers (slave who built the pyramids) were in shape I guess. Maybe malnourished, but in shape and muscular. And I think that explain very well how to be in shape. Those slave workers were using their muscles all day long. The body adapts itself to the situation you're in, to survive. Like them, their body said "hey, I need to do alot of work and always cary heavy things, so I need to be strong.". You see, It's a good motivation going to a gym or doing a sport.

If you are sedentary, then your body is always <rested> and just keep doing nothing and keeping fats and other stuff.

There's no magic pills, the only way to lose weight or fat is to work alot. That's why gym exist. You see, by creating a 3 or 4 or 5 day routine, your body will adapt itself to that routine and you will be in shape and lose weight, because your body will adjust itself to the degree of exercise (or work) you are doing. And, it will adjust itself to how much strenght you need too.So that's why you keep lifting heavier and heavier weights in the gym : You want more and more muscles.

So, the solution is to create a routine at the gym, or at least doing an activity or a sport that will make you sweat - because believe me, If you don't sweat and you heart is not in high rate zone,- then your body will not adapt. When you do something <hard> to do, like running, or when you sweat alot, your body then have a call for adaptation.

That's my wonderful theory about exercise and muscles !

So, when you think about losing weight, think about it as a daily or weekly adaptation of your body.

Sure, there is supplement but you need to take them very carrefully, and often, you don't need them at all. The only thing you can do better than the egyptian slave worker is to eat correctly. You don't get poor-vitamins food, in our society you can buy the food you want. So work hard, and eat very healthy! I think that researchers and scientific can, yes, read things like what supplement does,ect... but I find my theory way better.

It's us that see muscular body as a "perfection" or "good". Think about it, it's just an adaptation of a body to the work it does !

Hope you like my theory ;)

Makwa's
12-28-2006, 06:06 PM
That’s an interesting theory there Crazy but you have to admit genetics play a role in muscle mass, structure, metabolism and a whole realm of other things at the molecular level. So it not always a diet and exercise thing.

The slaves could have been influence by a number of things from survival of the fittest (we don’t know how many died, at what rate and of what causes) to being a relatively pure strain of homo sapiens. Now people have so many Nationalities ( an ethnocentric term for strain) that our health can be effected. To some degree the environment you live in needs to be factored. Personally I think there is more to it than the slave/muscle analogy but it was interesting.

Anyway count me in. I found out three years ago that I had a sever thyroid problem and gained a considerable amount of weight very fast. I have only just the past three months been able to somewhat recover from the health effects to start and exercise program aggressive enough to lose weight. I have since lost 25 pounds and look forward to losing another 25 before spring.

I really need to make it happen again.

One thing I used in the past to track food, weight, and exercise, is Fitday.

http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/Index.html

There is free.

It helped me in the past when I would track what I eat everyday. The problem is I quit tracking!

Jan 18th of last year I joined WW and I although I did not share here I have had great success. My life as totally changed for the better. I have a new outlook on life, eating and exercise. WW has taught me how to eat healthy and still feel like you are living, I love the core plan. I excerise everyday at least 45 minutes to a hour or more. I have my own little exercise room in my house, and have taken up racket ball, skating again (I have not skated in many many of years), riding bike, plus I walk Boozer everyday. I really like being active and trying new activites.

I did get a little off track over Christmas but I have bad stomach flu since I got home and that has been a hard way to get back on track. I am looking forward to getting on track and back into my normal routine again this week once I recover.

I weight in every Wednesday night. I know how hard all of this is and I think that you are all doing a great job. Keep up the good work, I look forward to sharing in your success and failures as well because no one is perfect I know that better then anyone but I think that it is the little slips that keep us human.

Ugghhh, I am so in. I am really disappointed in myself. In the summer of 2005 I started WW online and lost 25 pounds by the start of 2006. I took a brief break because I just hit a plateau. I maintained during that "break" but then slowly started back into my old eating habbits. Here I am at the end of the year and have gained back 15 :(

Sad thing is I KNOW how to do it. I just can not find the willpower. I hope I can stay with it this year. I am waying myself tomorrow and starting over.

I am impressed with everyone who lost last year, specifically Surfbear and ourshiloh! Great work!

Good luck everyone and count me in even though I started three weeks ago I still have weight to take off.

I just wanted to let you all know about Discovery Channel's National Body Challenge. I did it last year and I thought it was great. They give you a free pass to a Bally's for 8 weeks which is how long the program is and gives you lots of information on their website where you can track your activity and weight. Plus they have kick offs and certain malls where they will weigh, measure and tell you how much body fat you have. That was very interesting for me and I hope by the time it starts mid January I have less fat than last year. I kept all of the stuff they gave me at the mall - a journal where you track what you eat and how much water you drink and other freebies. You can sign up for free at www.discoveryhealth.com (http://www.discoveryhealth.com)

I will do my weigh is on Monday - my goal is to lose another 17 pounds as I have already lost 9. I'm following the South Beach Diet.

Julie~that's an excellent strategy b/c the # on the scales says little about a person's fitness level or BMI..

A better indicator is how your clothes feel from week to week & how you feel...

The scale reading "CAN" be reinforcing when there are losses as I've read from some posts here BUT is it equally discouraging when it notes pounds gained b/c of such things as: water retention, time of day weighed, etc. Weight does naturally fluctuate somewhat...

Best of luck everyone :)

*I have lots of good suggestions/tips so I'll check in often.

When I was away in September I had a "test" that showed what I weighted, my metabolic rate, my fat percentage and a few other numbers that I don't recall off hand.

I am going to use that as a guide and how I feel and as Laurie says, how clothes fit.

For me a lot if it is attitude and right now it just plain sucks for many reasons. My new years resolution is to feel better about myself and take pride in how I look.

Today I have kept that resolution and did "little" things to keep me in top spirits. I did my hair, put on make-up (I don't normally unless going out) and have on a pair of nice shoes and not just my usual runners with my dress pants...(I know, don't be calling what not to wear on me...lol).

I am going to treat myself to some lip gloss later today.

I am totally into having the help & support of friends to help with this. I have been doing WW online since Sept 05 and have lost 40 of the 80 pounds I need to loose. However, I have been at the same 1/2 way point for the last 8-9 months. In Oct I joined Curves to help with the workout part.

Good luck to all of us.

Unfortunately, the one thing I can attest to at this point in my life (I'm 37) when it comes to weight loss is that motivation does not just happen. You don't wake up and it's there, it doesn't come tomorrow, or the next day or the next day. When it does find you, you're already way past the point you were at when you first starting waiting for the motivation to happen.

The only way to make the weight loss happen is to follow that old Nike slogan and Just Do It. That's all you have to say in your head as you push all other thoughts out. If we can all be strong enough to just push out the negatives..I'm too tired to work out, I need to have that fattening lunch, I'll start tomorrow... we can achieve our goals one pound at a time.

I'm wishing everyone the courage to be strong enough to push out the negatives today, even if just for one day! And maybe tomorrow, too.

OK, I am getting back on the wagon(or should it be off the wagon? More exercise if you walk instead of riding the wagon. tee hee)
I have been unable to exercise because of a knee iinjury but it is getting much better and I can start again. I have not done well since getting hurt, bummed that I was laid up again. No excuse but I guess that is why I went off my diet. Starting today I am back on WW and will start doing some exercise tomorrow.
I really need the support from all of you, I need someone to answer to daily.
So you get the job!
I am 60 miles from the nearest gym so that is not an option but I will ride my exercise bike every day and hope to also do some aerobics. I hope to eventually be able to do some strenth training but don't have the weights yet.
I have a long way to go and will appreciate your support so much.
Here we go!~~~~~~

Here's a tip from MSN this morning:

January

New habit: Formulate clear diet and fitness goals. For eating, work on a one-week plan for meals. For fitness, schedule your workouts three weeks out to avoid other commitments canceling your good intentions.

The skinny: University of Rhode Island psychologist James O. Prochaska has conducted landmark studies that show it takes us three weeks or 21 days to establish new habits. We need that time to develop a routine and get into a mindset.

For his part, personal trainer Florez says his successful clients share the common trait of making the time to eat right and to exercise. “You can begin with 10-minute walks at lunch, that’s OK,” he says. “The important point is formalizing the process of planning your fitness time.”

Action steps: Florez recommends coming up with a menu for the week and selecting one day every week to shop at the supermarket for supplies. The idea is to create a menu that you follow for most meals and snacks. The most critical areas? Having healthy items for breakfast (see April’s habit for more details) and stocking up on nutritious snacks for work, school, the car and other times you’re on the go.

On the fitness side, for the next 21 days, make two to three standing appointments with yourself each week for physical activity. As the 21 days draw to a close, then update your schedule again.

Be realistic about if you can commit to a short walk or 90-minute gym session. But make it your January priority to plan this time for yourself and carry out the docket.

“Schedule that time and then protect it,” says Florez. “Treat your physical activity plans and workouts with the same diligence as a parent-teacher conference, meeting with a superior at work or running a volunteer organization meeting. Don’t put yourself last.”

Good Ideas....
Come on, we can do this together!!! :) :) :)

I would like to suggest that we start a daily or a weekly thread so it is easier to follow and be part of what is current.

I find it hard when you have to search through pages of things to find out what is going on.

I think it is great that we have a group of people to help us out and lean on when we need support.

So yesterday I ate breakfast lunch and dinner. While they were not the greatest at being balanced as I have not made it to the grocery store yet, I was not suffing my face with junk, so I am happy.

I have cut out sugar in my tea and increased my friut and veggie intake. Small steps to start...

Julie! good job! you know it IS alot easier to lose weight (at least for me) if I eat those three meals a day, breakfast is really important, it sets the pace for the rest of the day.

Things are going well on my end since my night of sasauge and crackers. lol I am back to being a good girl.. so it sounds like we are both doing well.. and everyone else here too.. :)

Ok, I am frustrated.

I just went and tried on our new uniforms for work and they don't fit me :cry2f:
It really just does not fit in the chest area, but I really should have the next size up, which they don't have. I even tried with a different bra, but no luck, it still puckers.

Instead of motivating me to work harder to loose the weight it depresses me.

I would like to join the LB weight loss group. I don't have a scale so I am not sure what I weigh right now but I do know I need to loose about 60 pounds or so.
Today is the first day of my plan to eating healthy and excercising more. I walk Arlo at least once a day for 45-60 minutes and I realised that I could be loosing weight if I cut out all the junk I eat. I work weird hours and my bf refuses to cook so alot of times when I get off work we'll just grab McDonalds, Swiss Chalet, Licks, Pizza...*sigh* which I really really really love to eat but I know what it is doing to my body. I have always been a bigger girl and I realise that my body structure won't ever allow me to be a very tiny person but I want to look better, feel better and have more confidence!!
It's coming close to 10 and so far today I ate a small peice of toast with margarine and 2 navel oranges. The boys and I went for a 45 minute walk. I feel very good but I have no willpower. I hope that with reading everyones progress and maybe even contributing my own I will be motivated to keep this up!
I have started an online journal to help with weekly meal planning, keep track of what I ate and weight loss or weight gain for the week. I plan on getting a scale and weighing in once a week at the same time. Wish me luck!! I need it! LOL!!

I would think that would be fine to start a daily or weekly thread. Which do you think would be better?

Oh, and Julie, don't give up, get motivated, you can do this!!!!! :)

I agree on a daily thread as well much easier than searching through this one. Maybe LBWLG 1/3/07 and just keep changing the date? That way you know what day we are on and if you miss one just go back to the others?

I really need to make it happen again.

One thing I used in the past to track food, weight, and exercise, is Fitday.

http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/Index.html

There is free.

It helped me in the past when I would track what I eat everyday. The problem is I quit tracking!

i use fitday too - i really like it.

when i was dieting for my wedding i was a maniac with measuring, but i've let that go.

i am in diet mode again because i've gained a ton of weight in the last year since switching jobs. i'm sitting on my butt all day at work instead of running around the building to get things done.

I think I'm going to get in on this too :D I go to school and work 20 hours a week, but this puppy has helped me gain so much more energy than I thought I had in the last week that it makes me hopeful that I can continue this pattern. I'll be starting my walks again and although I have a gym on campus, I'm REALLY bad at going because I like to stay in the cardio section, but I need to do some weights too. I'll be starting my pilates again soon too hopefully.

YAY! I'm excited. My goal? 30 lbs in the next year, hopefully quite a bit of that before summer (I hate not feeling good in my own skin... I was never really impressed by myself, but now I'm disgusted. I want my old body back! College has ruined me...)

Everyday is a new day. Put today behind you and move on, change happens one day at a time.

My trainer once told me "a airplane is off course at least 90% of the time." It's impossible to be perfect so even if we are on course 10% of the time it is better than nothing.

Hi everyone -

Congrats to those that have already lost and much luck to those just starting out!! As my 30th bday approaches quickly (Feb), I'm starting to lose muscle tone quicker than ever and my metabolism went bye-bye. I was a fanatic of working out in college but my busy professional life has kicked my butt.

Sooooo, Weight Watchers it is. I decided that I need to be held accountable and the flex plan seemed like a good structure for me. I want to get back into shape and start living a healthier lifestyle to prevent problems later in life and hopefully live to 100 :).

Now the downer of the program. Last night was our first orientation meeting and it is being run at work for our convenience. I enlisted a work friend to join with me so that I could have a little support group of my own. We were excited and nervous at the same time as we've been getting sneers about joining since we are "smaller" people to begin with. We were immediately frustrated with the comments, some downright rude, as some said that we didn't belong there :(. Of course, we had to go through our song and dance about living healthier and eating better with structure as we like to compulsively over-indulge just like everyone else. Needless to say, we're discouraged from the get-go but my work friend and I will have to be our own little support group.

While my 10 week 10% goal may be 13lbs, that's a hell of a feat if you ask me. I'm not so sure if that's reasonable or not since I've not weighed that weight since my freshman year in college. Even at my best physical shape, I weighed 3lbs more than that - working out 5 days a week for 2 hours each day!

Anyhow, I hope I can share with you all in a more safe environment as I go through my program. Thanks for listening!

Evert9, I know how you feel. I'm not a big person - rather petite but have gained weight over the years and just want to go back to my normal self. When I tell people that I'm on a diet they look at me like I'm crazy. Even a little additional weight can be bad for our health but some people just don't understand. My doctor's have told me I need to lose the additional weight and this is going to be the year I do it as I will also be approaching 30 :). The good thing is you have your co-worker and you are not totally alone. Best of luck!

I'd like to join in on this. For the whole year of 2007 I would like a 50lb weight loss. My oldest is 20 and in that time I was always wanting to drop 10-20lbs, well now it's 50lbs. So, what do I need to do to get in on the LBWLG???? Thanks

I haven't posted in the past couple of days, but I am hopefully back and ready to work on my 2007 goals. I weigh-in at Weight Watchers on Wednesday evenings.

My weigh in last night showed a two pound GAIN. Not totally unexpected, but still dissappointing. My total LOSS is 27.4 pounds.

I was able to meet my goal of not gaining any weight over the holiday season and ended with a .4 loss overall.

Something interesting we learned last night about setting goals.
(AKA....Your Winning Outcome)

Stay positive! (ie..... I WILL lose weight)
Be specific! (How much and how I will achieve it)
Is it within YOUR control?

My goals for 2007......attend the weekly meetings, lose 40 pounds by June
(2 lbs per week) and increase my workouts from 3 to 4 days.

Good luck to everyone!!!!! We can do it! :D

I have lost 12 pounds so far on Weight Watchers and I gained .4 lbs when I went for my weigh in! I expected it to be worse.

I get hungry and want to snack when I'm cooking dinner. I found that I have cut up fruit and I eat that when I'm cooking - that way I get my fruit in and it is something to munch on.

Hi everyone! Well I can say one thing..... it is certainly much easier to put weight ON than it is take it OFF!! :D

My biggest hurdle seems to be at work. I'm busy and have things to do, but I still like to/want to snack throughtout the day. I'm a picker. I like to munch - kinda like a cow grazing.... not a lot... but just plain constant.

Please tell me I'm not alone!!

And how to you manage it?

Instead of eating a big breakfast and lunch, I try to eat something small every couple hours. I have a banana when I get to work. A little later I eat some yogurt. A little later I eat a cup of cereal (or lite bagel with an egg).
A little later I might eat some fruit or carrots. You get the drift. :D

Also if you like to just munch, make some popcorn. You can munch on that pretty much through the day. :D

I hope this helps some.

I read one of the books that states to walk the dogs/puppy atleast minutes daily. When I got Lucy I started to do just that and I am finding that extra walk daily is helping increase my metabolism.
I am also finding that it makes me feel better. Just -45 minutes daily.

FYI - Eight Good Health Guidelines
1. Eat at least five servings of vegetables and fruits each day.
2. Choose whole-grain foods, such as brown rice and oats, whenever possible.
3. Include two servings of milk products – low fat (1%) or fat-free – each day.
4. Have some healthy oil (olive oil, canola, sunflower, safflower or flaxseed) each day.
5. Ensure that you are getting enough protein by choosing at least a serving or two of meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or dried beans each day. Many dairy products are also good sources of protein.
6. Limit added sugar and alcohol.
7. Drink at least 6 8-ounce glasses of water a day.
8. Take a multiple vitamin-mineral supplement each day.

Hey guys, I hope it's okay if I join in. I want to lose at least 10-15 pounds to start with and I've been trying since the New Year, but I'm not really good at staying on task. I hope if I post here, I'll commit to staying on track. It's really hard here at college because I can't control much. The food selection is small, and I get really sick of it after awhile. I've been trying to go to the gym, but I keep on making excuses. I always seem the most motivated at night, so probably by morning I'll regret joining in. Hopefully by posting, I won't back out.

You should try bringing celery and carrots with you to work. If you eat plain celery you are actually burning calories because the caloric content of celery is less than what it takes to digest it. So by eating celery, you are getting a healthy meal that is giving helping you in more than one way!

I had forgotten about this thread! Since the beginning of the year, and as of the 23rd, I have lost 7 pounds! My goal was 5/month, so I am very happy with that. I did have 2 "cheat" days, but still those days were only about 2000 calories.

It is a long road ahead, I just hope I can keep it up.
