Linda, this is truly sad! I'm offering an incentive for these 2 to stay together, see if you can promote them to stay together, I will pay both adoption fees together if they are adopted together to stay together, see what you can do.
Let me know...
Martha

GREAT Martha, THanks, I'll add it now.

Need Home for Christmas for 3-legged Blind Lab & His Seeing Eye Dog

PLEASE CROSS POST!!!

Does anyone have room for a very special pair??

Humane Society of Catawba County
Hickory, NC

adopt@catawbahumane.org (@catawbahumane.org)

Notes: Pirate is is a special boy...He's got three legs, and is blind, and MUST be adopted with his friend Daphne (who can not live with cats!) Daphne is his guide dog, and the two have a very special bond. He and Daphne are completely housebroken, and are a wonderful, loving pair. Can you provide them with a forever home? We will adopt the two dogs together for one adoption fee...He's neutered, vaccinated and ready to go! He may be adopted by picking up an application at our shelter or downloading one from our website www.catawbahumane.org.

Print the application, fill it out and fax it in to be considered as a potential adopter. Our adoption donation is $85, which includes the spay or neuter, all vaccinations to date and a bag of the food he's/she's used to eating.

Out of state adoptions are permitted, with transportation being the responsibility of the adopter. Don't forget to microchip! Available when you adopt from HSCC for only $30 -- includes national registration!

Notes: Daphne is a very sweet young lady, and must be adopted with her friend Pirate, who is blind and has three legs. (See Pirate's description, too). Daphne is a real love, although she can not live with cats at all! She is housebroken (as is Pirate)...She is Pirate's guide dog, and we will adopt the two of these sweet dogs together for one adoption fee.

She's spayed, vaccinated and ready to go! She/They may be adopted by picking up an application at our shelter or downloading one from our website: www.catawbahumane.org. Print the application, fill it out, and fax it in to be considered as a potential adopter.

I know Kathy, I could hardly believe it when I read it. YOU know I love the blind ones now, since Buddy and I've always loved Srs, but I would have to keep these 2 for a long long long time. BUT, if someone wanted them both, I am sure we could get cataract surgery on the lab if that is what he needed.

We need to see if that is what is wrong and how old he is. (Pirate is the last name of my grand daughter, it is pronounced the very same as pirate, but spelled differently).

I think I hear a calling.....;)

I know Dana.....I can't imagine an owner surrendering both of these babies. How sick and sad.

Linda, there is no way I could take them because we have cats and a pretty full house with our three labs but I am in Hickory NC where the shelter is and if you hear anything and I could help with transport or something please let me know.

No kidding, wow............if I could get someone to foster now, for both of them, it will be hard, especially with him being blind and all. I swear to you all, it is NO big deal, honest to God.

A home that will take both and has no cats. Big huge sigh; Daph you aren't making this easy on anyone.

I know everyone wants them to stay together, me included. Jill (Patex) has had the experience, however, of having to separate a blind dog from his companion sighted dog so that both could be fostered and adopted. The blind dog was Liam, a lab; the sighted dog was Oreo, a border collie. I really did not want them to be separated, but it had to be done. For Liam and Oreo, it worked out beautifully. They were seniors and unlikely to be adopted as a pair. Separated, both showed independence and personality galore. The sighted BC really blossomed, as if his personality had been suppressed some while being responsible for Liam.

I throw that out there in case fosters or adopters can be found for each separately but no one for both together. I am not saying it would work to separate the two, but it could work better than any of us imagines. I also mention the idea because it appears Daphne is the only one with the cat issue, if I read the post correctly.
