Hi,

wonder if anyone has any input as to age/weight ratio of a pup.

Parents are both conformation-show dogs, and this female weighs 12 lbs at 8 weeks. sire is Westminster champ and Dam is of very reputable american and Swedish kennels..I was told that she was the largest of the litter of 5. Anyone have any ideas about potential size of this stocky little girl of dual purpose breeding?

At 8 weeks my whole litter of 9 was heavier than 20lbs, all grew to be normal sized (except the girl I kept). So I have no comments.

Sounds pretty normal here. Weight has somewhat related to litter size though. My one litter of 12 were quite a bit smaller at 8 wks than my others yet all caught up. Let genetics play out the rest of the game.... Anne

I think you have nothing to worry about. Don't try to keep down weight on a baby, she will grow. I like my puppies chubby. I think you can expect her to gain about 10 pounds a month with no concern until about 7 months. That's when you will watch and see it that weight is too much or too little for her structure. Welcome and enjoy your baby!!!! Kiss that belly daily!

That's what my girl weighed at 8 weeks and she is now almost 1 1/2 and weighs 65lbs. I don't think she is growing anymore.
