Our old vet called this morning with a lab that needs a home. One of the vet's clients got a new puppy, and now that the 9 year old lab doesn't like the puppy, he's dumping the 9 year old. According to the vet, the guy will say anything to make himself look ok, so he's told the vet that the dog is dog aggressive, nipped at the kids, etc.- this is a dog, that until they bought the puppy, was perfect. The vet thinks he's lying about all of that, and wants to find a rescue for the dog asap.

We are full to the brim and have several dogs back-logged waiting to come into our rescue. If anyone has any ideas for this old guy, let me know. The dog is healthy and fully vetted, and the guy is probably going to dump the dog at the local kill shelter, where he won't have much of a chance, of course. The dog is located in the NW suburbs of Chicago.

Any ideas?

Is the dog good with other male dogs or should he be an only??

According to the vet, he has been fine with every dog and cat they've tried him with at the vet clinic. According to the owner, he went after the puppy, but the vet seems to think the dog probably reprimanded the puppy and the guy exaggerated to make himself feel better. So, to err on the side of caution, I'd have to say his dog-friendliness is situational and will depend on the dog he's with, but the vet thinks he's good with all dogs as long as they aren't bouncing off the side of him and trying to grab his ears with razor sharp puppy teeth.
