View Full Version : what age for kirkland brands?
bowie418 12-30-2003, 01:41 PM We have a Costco in the area and have not looked at the Kirkland food there. Bentley is now 14 weeks old and has been on Iams, but I know it's not the best for her. Does Costco sell food for puppies? If not, what is a good age for switching her over to the Kirkland? I know it would be a great price if it's from Costco. Thanks for the advice!
CanyonLabradors 12-30-2003, 03:01 PM Costco may sell puppy food, but if you are looking for the Kirkland brand that every one talks about, I don't think they make a puppy formula.
Most LB puppy foods seem to run about 26% protein, so you probably would be safe giving the Kirkland C&R formula. Adult foods and L&R tend to have less protein.
labby 12-31-2003, 12:01 PM Most breeders who switch, do it when the pup is approx. 4 months of age. So you can start weaning your pup onto the Kirkland if you wish.
silverlabmom 12-31-2003, 12:49 PM I just went to Costco this weekend looking for puppy food. They do not carry any.
I was a little frustrated, and decided to write a suggestion and put it in the suggestion box. The employee told me next time I come there will be an answer written in the book from management.
Maybe if you also find that your Costco doesnt carry Kirklands puppy food , you can do the same, the more people that write, maybe they will listen :D
bowie418 12-31-2003, 01:19 PM I'll try to get by Costco sometime in the next week, and if they don't have puppy food, I'll definitely put in a request... Thanks for the info!
labby 12-31-2003, 04:05 PM Kirkland does not have a puppy food because Costco hasn't commissioned Diamond to make one for them. Rather than writing your local store, you're better off writing the corporation since they are the ones who decide what to do.
silverlabmom 12-31-2003, 04:25 PM thanks Laura, I will write them too :)
Happy New Year Everyone !!!:newyear: :snowman: :presents: :globe:
madandrob 01-02-2004, 09:13 PM Cody has eaten Kirkland lamb and rice since about 12-14 weeks. Vet says fine, and he's doing great in it. Puppy food makes labs grow too fast anyways, right? So you need either adult food or LB Puppy. Try Kirkalnd, if it doesn't work out, you're only out fifteen bucks!
duckbagger 01-02-2004, 09:42 PM LB puppy foods should be formulated to control growth.
LB puppy foods should a lower than normal fat content. For example may puppy foods push 20%. Most LB puppy foods stay around the 15% level.
LB puppy foods will also have lower amounts of Calcium and Phosphorus.
Good LB puppy foods are: Eukanuba, Nutro, Premium Edge, Diamond, Royal Canin Maxi Puppy, Eagle Pack LB puppy just to name a few.
