My wife and I have been looking for a yellow female labrador to adopt, preferably three years or older.
The lab we found is three years old. She was rescued from a backyard breeder where she mothered several litters of pups. She has been spayed, fully vaccined, heartworm tested (negative) and on prevention, and is even micro-chipped.
The rescue place says she is quiet in her crate, and does not seem to be bothered by much. They say she is crate trained and house trained. And loves kids.
However, there is one issue: they say she is not good with other dogs because of her treatment by the breeder. They say she was forced to come into contract with other adult females while she had litters of pups, and the other females were not always nice to her. They say she can be aggressive towards other dogs if a dog gets in her face.
Since everyone here knows more about labs, rescues and this breed, I wanted to run this by everyone.
My wife and I are both young, in our 20s. No kids yet but we are planning kids in the next 2 years or so. We would like a lab who has already matured somewhat and is trained and would also make a great family dog.
I just want to make sure this is not an issue. Sometimes we do travel and so we would take the dog to the best kennel in the area so she would have a private run but I'm wondering if there would always be the potential for her to attack another dog?
Thanks for any input.
