Sorry, dumb question? Does you dog have to be a purebreed with papers to be in agility competitions? Once Chloe gets old enough I would like her to practic agility if she enjoys it, so she can get lots of exercise and mental stimulation. I am new at this any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Agility is wonderful for exercise and mental stimulation! I also find it provides a nice workout for me. :)
No, your dog does not have to be AKC registered to compete in agility. You would only need that if you planned to compete in AKC trials. THere are several other organizations out there that allow nonregistered/ mixed breed dogs to compete. One is NADAC and the other is USDAA.
If Chloe doesn't have papers and you'd like to compete in an AKC event, you could always try for an ILP.
Here's some more info:http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm

There are also non-AKC agility events... sponsored by a variety of national agility trial clubs.
It should be a great way to channel her excitement and enthusiasm! Good luck! Just no jumping/impact obstacles until she's 2 years old to prevent stressing her joints/growth plates! :)

No - there are a few agility associations and your dog doesn't have to be purebred to compete. Many encourage mixed breeds.
One thing, your dog has to be about 18 months to 2 yrs old to start with jumping. The clubs don't want the dogs to damage growth plates by jumping. If younger then 2, you can practice them on the non-jumps - tunnel, chute, weaves (tho that is the hardest concept for them), dog walk to see if they are interested.
Beware you get hooked easy....hehhehe (dog does too).
