I found this dog on the local shelter sight... I'd never heard of an Akbash, so I looked it up out of curiosity.

They are protective dogs, similar to Great Pyrenees, and so need a rural home with room to roam. What I've read says they are good in the house, but don't do well cooped up in apartments or small fenced yards. He has the sweetest face. I've contacted a national breed rescue group, at least to help get his picture out there. Since others here work with rescue groups, maybe someone can help pass this along.

Here's the link for the shelter site...

Well, the rescue coordinator for the Akbash rescue had heard from the person who took Ollie in. She contacted the shelter LAST Wednesday and they were supposed to send her pictures but never did. So after I emailed her she tried calling and emailing them again and they were unresponsive. It would appear that this shelter is not rescue-friendly.

Anyway, so it appears that Ollie has been adopted but, chances are, the people don't understand the requirements of the breed and he will probably "bounce." Just like people who think labs are "great family dogs" who need no attention or training of their own. :frown:

Maybe if I could have gone to the shelter myself it would have been better... I guess I tried...
