I am having huge problems with my labs stomach. The vet just switched him to Prescriptive food. They are just guessing that it is a food allergy. Very soft poop constantly. If any one has any alternatives to the above food I would really appreciate it. For an 18lb bag it's 56 dollars. Really hard for me to afford it. Any suggestions are welcome. thanks

It would be helpful for you to tell us what food your lab was eating before!
What does your vet think that your lab is allergic to- specific grains or is it proteins?

That Rx kibble should be a temporary thing. Did the vet explain it to you? Typically, if a vet suspects a food allergy, they put the dog on the Rx kibble to see if it makes a difference. If it does, then it's most likely that whatever ingredient was in the previous kibble is the culprit. You then start reintroducing individual ingredients to try to identify the specific allergen. Hopefully, you'll figure this out and it's something easy to avoid. You just need to find a commercial kibble that doesn't have that specific ingredient.

In other words, you shouldn't have to spend tons of money for the Rx food forever.

 Angel has both food allergies and environmental allergies and I do several things to keep her symptoms under control. Really that is all you can do try to allevaite symptoms. First Angel is on Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Sweet potato and venison and/or sweet potato and fish. I use NB Venison dry kibble w/ 2 spoons of canned NB Sweet Potato and fish + 2 spoons plain white yogurt. This takes care of the rash which turn into lesions on her tummy and legs if she eats anything else. She is also allergic to grass- especially freshly cutt grass- so after it is cut- it gets soaked with the sprinkler-I also wipe Ang down with unscented baby wipes when she comes in doors for the day. She also gets bathed every other week in Synergy labs Vetrinary formula Anti-fungal shampoo. ( vet approved) and conditioned with an oatmeal creme rinse. Also if she should start breaking out ( which most time swill turn into staph if I don't catch it right away) I spray her effected area with a light mist of listerine ( anticeptic) and give her a prednisone. I take the steps before the meds each day so I can prevent having her on meds all of the time. It's work, but I do not want her on meds if she doesn't have to be.
Good Luck. Keep us posted.

Good luck!
