I have been feeding my dogs Orijen and they are doing really well on it, with no problems as yet. I like it because it has no grains and it has 4 protein sources in it, but I don't like that it has 30% fruits/veg's. Plus I had to send for it, so it is pricey.

I called one of the local feed mills to see if they could get it and he said he would check, but also told me about another food that is excellent for dogs with allergies. It is called Raw Instinct by Nature's Variety. It doesn't contain any grains and the rabbit has the least amount of ingredients/additives.

Anyone know anything about this food? I hate to switch again and may just stick with the Orijen, even if I have to send for it.

Do a search on it here in the site, we've talked about it many many times. In fact, I am a demo person for Nature's Variety. I go to stores to talk to people and hand out samples and coupons. It's just called Instinct now, the word "raw" was dropped from the name.

I love it and my dogs do really well on it. Both the Instinct (grain free) and the Prairie (whole grains sourced in the US). NV also has fruits and veggies in it too though, so you aren't going to be able to get away from those in a commercially prepared diet. The only way to get around that is to go to a raw diet where you don't add fruits and veggies. 90% of the protein is from the meat meal...they use tapioca which adds no protein to the mix. Other grain free kibbles often use potato which does add some protein to it.

However, I do not think what your guy told you was right....Yes, NV has chicken, rabbit and duck/turkey, but all also have fish meal added too. The rabbit doesn't have the "least" amount of ingredients added. All three formulas are pretty identical other than the protein sources, and it's very similar to the Prairie line as well. The reason being that the food is designed to be rotated for variety, and which a commonality between all the varieties, you can swap between flavors without dietary upset.

Thanks, CL

I'm glad to see other's switch around frequently too.

I do feed Raw too, but like to have kibble on hand and try to find something with a different protein than what I feed raw.

Maybe I will get a bag of each of the Instinct varieties, if I can't get the Orijen from the mill...and maybe even if I can. ;)

I have fed Orijen and liked the idea of the food, but it didn`t seem to agree with my dogs..I switched to Innova Evo and finally seem to have found a food that agrees with both my dogs :) Nature`s Instinct also sounds like a great food, but I have never tried it.
