:tissue: Just been to the vets with my golden lab Benjie today he has suffered from osteoarthritis in his front paws and cancer for a while now,he has had glucosamine sulphate and I did notice a difference, but today I was told his hips are now going and they prescribed Rimadyl which thanks to this sight I would not have known it had such severe side effects. So I am wondering if there is anybody out there who has any previouse experience of what we are going through at the moment and welcome any suggestons help at all. THANKS

Welcome to the board. Sorry to read about Benjie's problems :(.
He's 12 years old, right?
Did your vet do a blood test before Benjie was put on Rimadyl? That's important to do the check how his liver is functioning.
What type of cancer does Benjie have?

Hello and welcome to the board...I am so sorry that your Lab is having such pain...:(
If you are concerned about the side effects of Rimadyl, you may want to consider another pain reliever called "Metacam". I am not sure if it is available in Wales, but you may want to ask your Vet about it.
I use it on my 14 year old senior with very positive results and I believe there are fewer side effects associated with it.

EPA/DHA fish oil can help for arthritis and if I'm not mistaken cancer as well. (also heart).
You can get more info on it at www.dogaware.com (http://www.dogaware.com) look under arthritis and natural supplments.
Prayers that you can make your baby comfortable.
I agree with staying away from Rimadyl whenever possible.

:D We are both feeling better now, he walking and trying to jump around again,a pleasure to see. The vet did not do a blood test on him before putting him on Rimadyl and did not mention the side effects either only for your site I would not have known, I purchased Synaquin which the vet said should help ease any of the Rimadyl side effects, I also went and purchased a magnetic collar and Omega three capsules. I can tell he is better as he s back to being the fun loveing pup he always was, apart from being on a diet thats the only time he is not amused. THANKYOU ALL  Cancer has not spread!
Benjie says hi, I'm 11 1/2

Benjie and I both say a big thankyou to you all, I went to the vets yesterday he has lost weight is in less pain they belive and have encouraged him to stay on 100mg of Rimadyl a day plus Synoquin and Omega 3 capsules as they seem to be doing him the world of good.
Today we went for a short walk I called him to me and he actually ran I never thought he would do that ever again. Did not know whether to laugh or cry, but this site is a godsend.:D
