After the girls being on the Cal Natural &R for the last 6 weeks, I thought I had found the perfect food that worked for both dogs. Their poops were the best I've seen on any prior food.

I noticed about 10 days ago that the girls were starting to scratch alot. I tried to tell myself it was just the warm weather. I noticed Daisy shaking her head today and when I checked her ears, one was bright red and gunky. I checked Lola's and wasn't thrilled with hers either. Daisy has also been doing the booty scoot.:( So, we'll be trying new foods again:tapfoot:

I'm so disappointed:mad:

Oh, don't tell me that! I am switching Max over to Calif Natural L&R from Kirklands. His poop is already getting firmer. I hope I don't even up having to change again. Good luck finding the right food. Too bad all of our dogs don't do well on the same food... would make it so much easier, huh?

Thats too bad :( We have great luck with Innova EVO...we do rotate with Cal Natural but my dogs do way better on EVO.

Your dogs reactions may be due to seasonal changes as well...just a thought.

Foods are only one reason for ear infections... Why not treat the ear infection as if it was caused by a swim or bacteria ?

It is also very moldy from lots of rain, the seasonal shed is starting with new hairs pushing through... If your dogs were sensitive to a food it shows in the sensitive lining of the gut first with loose stool. At six weeks a food change also goes into a state where toxins are moving out of the dogs insides. It is very possible a little fish oil , and Vit E could help too.

If the poops are that good it is not the food.

I agree with uplander. Why not treat the ears and see what happens. Could be possible they both have gotten bacteria in their ears at the same time from the same source besides the food.

My dogs are also on this food and after about 3-4 months noticed yucky ears. I'm treating both with otomax and will watch if it comes back. I'm not rushing to change foods yet since everything else is great on this food. My dogs are not swimmers but we do live on a lake and it is very moist in the backyard so just hoping they picked something up and it's not the food.

Sorry to hear the girls are not doing well on it! Hopefully you can find a solution soon!

California Natural L&R did not work out for us either. But, it was Lia's tummy problems (VERY icky poo) that gave it away in my case.

Well, I live in SoCal so it's not very moist or moldy around here. I guess I'll give it a little more time. I'll have them at least finish out our newest bag. Last night was terrible with both of them licking and scratching:mad:

ETA: I do supplement with Wild Alaskan salmon oil and a few times a week, they get about an once of salmon with their food.

One of my dogs had the ear problems and it was food related. It took many food trials, but finally since 4 years of eating Ultra Nutro, he hasn't had one ear problem. I recently tried CN chicken and his ears got red and his poos were not firm at all. So I went back to the Ultra formula. And all is well again.
