All of those empty morrow bones that hang around your house....you know...the one's you accidently step on that cause you to go into vowels....not fit for human ears???

I have a solution!

1) throw half of them out! (keep 1 or 2)

2) Line the edges of the hole with peanut butter.

3) Cut a quater off of a banana, peel and stuff into hole.
squish until thoughly stuffed.

4) pop into freezer for an hour or so.

Oliver loves them!! They are great for keeping him busy. I takes awhile to work out the banana.

I know this sounds stupid.. but where do you GET marrow bones? Can you get a picture of what the Bananna Bone looks like? I bet my girls would love that.. (That is after Kali loses a few lbs  )

We get our bones from the grocery store. In the meat section and they are called Beef Soup Bones. They are not the BIG HUGE shoulder looking ones but the shank bones (froma leg I assume) they are cylindrical, some meat and fat on the outside and the marraw on the inside. They don't always have them and sometimes you have to ask the butcher. I can usually get 2 in a package (about 3 inches long) for $1.50

I'll look and see if I have a picture.

Here are some pictures. These are a little longer than what I can usually get but hopefully the pics will help you see

Hi Lisa,

What Jacky said! I wait until he has completely chewed the bone clean and it should be hollow in the middle. I line the inside w/ peanut butter and then stuff the quater of banana inside.

ps - I also cook my soup bones. I used to give them raw but it
seemed to be hard on his belly. I boil them for about 2 hours and
supervise closely when he eats one. He has never been able to crack one. I also scoop out half of the marrow because it's very rich.

I bet Kali would LOVE them.

Great ideas...I laughed out loud when you spoke of the "vowels" sometimes my yard looks like a marrow bone mine field. We are lucky to butt up against woods, we just chuck the old ones way back. I will try to pumpkin and banana. I sometimes take the PB and then shove in the dry dog food. Anything to keep my rug rats busy. I also make 1/2 water and 1/3 chicken stock ice cubes for the girls.

Great idea here. I'm going to start stuffing Mudd's bones with banana and pumpkin. He gets loosey poops when he eats the marrow so I have to remove this. Now I can stuff it with good stuff. As long as it keeps him busy!!! Thanks for the idea.

The pumpkin and banana ideas are awesome- we'll definitely look at using 'em. I know that our toybox also looks like a bone collection right now!

Also, for dogs with sensitive tummies you can take dry food and soak it. Make a paste and stuff the paste into the bones and freeze them. They work awesome and don't upset their tummys since its their own food. Occasionally I mix in a spoonfull of canned food to spice up the mix and/or use low sodium broth to soak the food to increase flavor.

I also do this with their kongs and make a kongsicle. This way their meal lasts longer.

Do any of you ever feed the whole bones? I usually buy the entire femur and have the butcher cut it in half- that way I get each marrow bone with its end. The dogs dig them this way and each gets about a 3 lb. bone.

I find if the bone is not cooked becky will try to bury the bone to let it "season" before she digs it up again to have a chew.
I bought her a ready cooked bone and it was already stuffed with doggie treats rather than marrow she loved it the bone is till out back piced up every few minutes and she looks like hannibal from the A team!!!!

So, when y'all get these marrow bones, do you just let them have them in the house? Don't they have raw meat (or fat or something) on them that gets all over everything?

I boil the bones first because the marrow etc. upsets their tummies.. so i boil for a bout 3 minutes and when it looks cooked, they can have it. Then when its done, i fill it with peanut butter and cheerios, haven't tried the banana yet, but i will. Brady likes frozen bananas...

I took Becky/Buddy's Frosty Paw recipe and mixed up a batch and have a marrow bone and kong stuffing party once a week. These are GREAT for when you need to leave for a while or while Lucy goes to work with my husband. She chews on those instead of the wood pile on the construction site.

LOL on the empties being land mines. I step on these things at least 2 times a day!!

Buddy loves his marrow bones great for the teeth but they should never be cooked as the bones can then splinder which is not good for their tum-tums:)
