I'm starting a new SF Bay area labfest thread b/c the last one was cancelled (due to the oil spill) and is now three pages long and a little out of date.

We have the choice of four dates/two places for two reasons: Pt. Isabel's waterfront is still closed but more importantly-- Mandy (JimsMom) and Jim will be moving to the east coast on Jan. 21st so this is our last chance to get to met her and Jim

I'll leave the poll open until January 1st...which ever day and location has the most votes will be where we will meet. If you can attend more than one day and have no preference then please cast your vote for all those days. If you can attend any of the days but would prefer a specific day then please cast your vote ONLY for that day. Same thing goes for location. Once the location and date are set then we'll figure out a time.

Location 1: Pt. Isabel, Richmond, CA
http://www.ebparks.org/parks/pt_isabel
I called the park to check on the status of the waterfront/oil spill damage. They are still intermittently cleaning the shoreline and water access is restricted however people are still using the park and I was told there's plenty of open meadow available for the dogs to run free.

Location 2: Fort Funston
http://www.bahiker.com/sfhikes/funston.html
http://parksconservancy.org/visit/park.asp?park=42
The first link says dogs are required to be leashed but that was back in 2002. Since then the federal court ruled on exceptions and Fort Funston was one of them. I confirmed this in the nps.gov's website...Fort Funston is off leash as well.

Please check out all links to the parks if you have no first hand experience with the location to help you better decide. If you have any questions feel free to post them on this thread or pm me.

Are either of these places fenced? Charlie is pretty good at staying near me, but I don't really trust him outside a fenced area quite yet.

No, no fences just big open spaces. If you have any ideas for a fenced area I'm all ears :)
Last time we had decided on Pt. Isabel so I was going with a similar location when I came up with Fort Funston...

We visit Fort Funston quite a lot. It is miles and miles of yellow sandy beach. There is a steep long climb down/up to the beach. It is not fenced but you have the water on one side and the bank/cliff on the other. You can easily find your own bit of beach. There are also lots of walking trails and toilets.

That sounds fun! I'd love to, but I'm not sure what the weather is going to be like, we're getting some intense wind right now on the South East Bay water.

It's blowing and storming up here fierce, has been most of the day and is supposed to get worse as we head towards the weekend :(.
At this point I figure not even trying to make it work. We'll just try again another time...

Did this happen? Just wondering. Would like to meet up with fellow lab owners in the Bay Area.

Does anyone know of a great hiking and swimming location in the Bay? Would like to get my labs out hiking and swimming.

Thanks
