View Full Version : Big Mistake
TheDukesMom 05-28-2007, 06:07 AM This is my third week of Weight Watchers. The first week I lost six pounds! :bounce: I was stoked and ready to conquer week two!! I've done WW before and was trying to think of all of the low-point items that I used to eat so I could go to the grocery store and stock up. Then I remembered these delicious instant mashed potatoes that I ate ALL THE TIME when I did WW four years ago. They were delicious and from what I remembered you could have the whole pouch of them for like four points. Skip forward to week two weigh in... I didn't really feel like I had lost a lot of weight but I know how strict I had been all week, drank TONS and TONS of water, counted my points, and ran/walked two and a half miles five out of seven days and when I weighed in? I had gained +0.8. I was so upset. I thought, "I know losing six pounds was a lot but I definitely expected to lose weight week two since I had done so well."
So... last night? I was cleaning the kitchen and looking at a bunch of different foods that I had in the pantry figuring up the points. The box of mashed potatoes was right in front of me so I decided to figure up the points just for the heck of it. Do you want to know how many points they are? Three points per serving and there are eight servings!! Twenty-four points for the whole pouch. I know for a fact during week two, I ate half of a pouch at least three nights last week. I almost hyperventilated.
I screwed up bad on that one. I never even figured up the points after I got them from the grocery store. I just thought, "Those are the ones", came home and cooked them. Needless to say, I know why I didn't lost weight last week!

Stupid me. From now on, EVERYTHING gets checked for points before it comes in my kitchen! :D
And thanks! :)

I did that with a Quizno's salad.... I thought, oh, I know it's a few points, but (of course) after I ate it for lunch I went home and figured out the points and it was 17
I have one of those pocket (electronic) points calculator and I don't go to the store without it!! It's been one of the biggest helps to me!
I'm going to get back on track with my tracking points! I've got a good bit still to lose and need to start seeing some more of those losing numbers!!
Hey, you're still down 5 lbs for the 2 weeks, and that's great!!!! :) :)
gatorblueyes 05-28-2007, 09:04 AM I don't think we can have potatoes at all on the core plan. Good luck June! That is a common mistake but you won't do it again;)

I'm doing flex/what I used to do. I don't really care for the new plans. I don't see how (with flex) having an additional 35 points a week is helpful. Bottom line is, with 35 extra points per week to spend however you choose your caloric intake is increased. My book says I can have 22 points per day, so I eat 22 or just under (or in last weeks case WAY above! Thank God I exercised almost everyday. I shudder at the thought of eating those damn potatoes and not exercising. lol) and exercise and I lose. To each their own I guess.

Ronda, I think tracking the points really works wonders. I know when I had been doing WW for a while before, anytime I stopped actually writing it down I would mess up. I'm sure it's something mental but it really helps me to see it on paper.
I'll have to look at those electronic points calculator. It sounds like a great idea!
And thanks for the words of encouragement! :)
MyChloe 05-28-2007, 09:25 AM I'm sure you will do better this week! Here is a link to a web site that lists the points for foods from restaurants. It helped me a lot! www.dwlz.com then click on restaurants. good luck!

Oh I was just using the core plan for comparison...just trying to say that in most diet plans/healthy eating potatoes are in the caution or even do not use list. I usually eat them on treat days if they are available but avoid them otherwise! You will bounce right back this week:D.

I was seriously thinking that I had found a "diamond in the rough" with those potatoes... like, I knew about the ONE brand of mashed potatoes that were low fat/calories that most other people didn't know about. I know generally that potatoes are carbs/starch and not great for you. But I guess I didn't apply it to this situation. I don't know maybe deep down I was hoping these potatoes were really just flavored Styrofoam but at least they tasted good. Okay, I'm going to shut up about the stinkin' potatoes but from now on I'm sticking with my original motto "Good on the lips, fat on the hips." Bwahahahaha. :D
gatorblueyes 05-28-2007, 10:13 AM hahahahahahahahaa...denial is a beautiful thing June;) You are awesome!
NoMonstersHere 05-28-2007, 04:00 PM There are so many things to think about with all this WW stuff!! Even 14 weeks it, it takes a lot of effort. I really like the cook books for great ideas. I find that,on days when John is not in town, I tend to eat smartones dinners. And lots of steamed veggies.
I did something silly WW-wise recently too - I found great tasting pringles that were 1 point for 14 chips. I was thrilled! Then my DF comes home and reads the container. How are they fat free??? They are fill with olestra. Just what I wanted, chips that are OK point-wise, but make your tummy have issues. So much for my great find!

TheDukesMom 05-28-2007, 04:17 PM What about the Ruffles that were out a few years back that had something like that in them. You could seriously eat the entire bag of chips for like 2-3 points, which was great to know since I was in college, living on my own, and had hardly any money. I would buy a bag and snack on them all day. Apparently people had problems with them but I never did. I was so bummed when they took them off the shelves. :( When I met my husband a few years down the road, we were talking about them and he said he had a HORRIBLE experience with them.
