I'm in Athens. While at the vet today, someone called in trying to get rid of a black lab (5 years old, I think). They don't want him anymore. They keep him in a small kennel all the time....no exercise...no attention....nothing. The owners surrendered him to her sister and it was the sister who called. (At least, that's the way I took it.)

Anyway, the vet's receptionist asked me to ask around to see if anyone would want the boy. I realize it's not probably as urgent as a lot of cases you see, but he still needs a good home.

Anyone have any ideas for getting him help?

Are you able to get any other information about him? Is he neutered? Housetrained? Sweet? Medical history?--He's obviously crate-trained-- How is he getting along at the sister's house-as in adjusting, learning new things, getting along with other pets if there are any?

The more info the better. Better yet, the sister decides he's a doll and wants to keep him.

And don't worry about posting here---I'm sure the dog thinks it's urgent.

I think she said he was neutered. But I really don't know anything. The sister just called to see if the vet would put a notice in his notebook he keeps on his counter of pets needing homes. I just happen to be standing there when the call came in and the receptionist asked me to see if I could find someone.

I have to take Spud back over there in the morning. I'll check and see if I can find out more info. I've never been involved with rescue or trying to find a home for an unwanted dog. But when you hear about something like this....well, I just had to ask around. I'll post back if I can find out anything else.
