View Full Version : Both of my guys are rescue...
sunfluer 02-15-2005, 11:21 AM :) Snickers, our chocolate lab came from a humane shelter here in NY. Snickers was picked up wandering the streets. He must have been around a year old when we adopt/rescued him. He's now around 7 yo.
Moon, our yellow baby came through petfinder.com We received him on 12/8/04. Moon was born down south and would've been put down if not for the rescue people. We were told he was about 12 weeks old when we got him. He's now close to 6 months. Moon is on the small size for a Lab. I've had some concerns but the nice people on this board have help me put my concerns to rest. Some Labs are big, some small and some in between. No matter. They're all great dogs; a truly wonderful breed.
We've got 2 amazing dogs thanks to Lab rescue.
LivinLabs 02-15-2005, 03:01 PM Moon helps keep Snickers young doesn't he?!!
GeorgiaCotton 02-15-2005, 03:05 PM That is great that you rescued both of your furbabies! I would love to see more pictures!
sunfluer 02-16-2005, 02:22 AM Thanks about my 2 guys.
Your dogs are beautiful. How did you come to get your dogs?
Moon came through Labs4Rescue. They're located in CT.
I'll definitely post more pix of my guys. I'm glad I found this board. It's great to connect with other Lab Lovers. :)
LindaAcup 02-16-2005, 05:01 AM Did your rescue do a home visit with you first, etc? There's a special place in Heaven for you!!!!
sunfluer 02-16-2005, 05:05 AM Ahhhh, that's very kind of you.
Yes, a home visit was done first. Now, I do home visits for Labs4Rescue. Anything to help out these great dogs!
LindaAcup 02-16-2005, 05:08 AM That's wonderful. I have been talking with Cathy about helping us out here in IN. We have labs dying daily here in shelters. Glad you're involve. :)

How wonderful that you help with the rescue group - the legion is growing! Yay! :cheers2:
LivinLabs 02-16-2005, 09:25 AM I got two from the local humane society here in SW Michigan and one from a breeder. I would love to have more more more... why does the world have to revolve around money? LOL
sunfluer 02-16-2005, 09:38 AM I would love to have one more Lab but alas, space and money are the obstacles. I love the breed so much. They are the sweethearts of the dog world, IMO.
sunfluer 02-16-2005, 09:43 AM As for the rescue involvement, that's the way Labs4Rescue get their volunteers via adoption. I can do it b/c I'm a SAHM. Also, I enjoy it. I like to be involved on the adoption side; meet the new parents to be, get the word out about rescue and how seriously it's taken. On my last call, the woman was impressed that we do the home visits. In fact, I brought Moon and my daughter with me on the visit. I felt, if they're seeking to adopt a Lab then my best barometer is my dear Moon-face. I got to see first hand their immediate reaction to my dog and how they intereacted with him. It worked out beautifully. The woman kept thanking me over and over again for bringing Moon along. She really enjoyed seeing him.

I can't begin to tell you how worthwhile it is to be involved in saving these wonderful dogs. It just breaks my heart when I see cruelty to animals. I also volunteer for Dogs Deserve Better (http://dogsdeservebetter.com) . DDB advocates for keeping dogs off chains in backyards isolated from their human pack members. This is much more difficult for me as I can't de-tach emotionally when I see dogs mistreated. I'll do my part by sending out flyers but I don't like making house calls.
Anyway, if you can get involved in rescue work it would make you feel so good knowing you've done something positive to help change a dogs life for the better.
buterflimc5 02-23-2005, 08:57 AM Hi, I am new to this forum site! I do not have a lab yet but I am in the process of rescuing a pup from Labs4Rescue. I just wanted to ask you what types of questions I should ask them about the puppy. I mean the woman I spoke to on the phone said that the dog will be vet checked and neutered. Is there any other questions I should ask??

Hi and welcome to this great board of Lab Lovers!
I think you can ask the general questions if you don't know already.
When was the pup born, if known
How old is the pup
What food is the pup eating.
What training has the pup had, i.e, crate, basic commands, etc.
Is pup house trained
Is pup currently in foster care. If so, what other animals and ages of family members.
When was pup separated from mom and litter mates
Make sure you get the vet record. You'll need it when you take your pup to your vet.
Bring the pup to the vet as soon as you receive him/her - make the appointment right after bringing pup home.
At what age was pup neutered.
I think these are good basic questions to ask.
Let us know what happens.
Best of luck.
buterflimc5 02-23-2005, 09:52 AM Thanks alot for the help! I will keep you posted on the new pup!
