I have been researching California Natural puppy food and have found conflicting information on the calcium and phosphorous levels in it.
The California Natural website has the following information:
-Lamb & Rice Puppy Food
Calcium- 2.209%
Phosphorous- 1.339%
-Chicken & Rice Puppy Food
Calcium- 1.358%
Phosphorous- .924%

The dogfoodanalysis.com website has the following information:
-Lamb & Rice Puppy Food
Calcium- 1.25%
Phosphorous- 1.04%
-Chicken & Rice Puppy Food
Calcium-1.41%
Phosphorous- 1.11%

If the California Natural website is correct, their Lamb & Rice puppy food has a dangerously high calcium level for Lab puppies, but if dogfoodanalysis.com is correct the calcium level is fine in the Lamb & Rice puppy food.
Does anyone know which information is correct or have any other info on this?

That is an excellent question.

We've had several threads on this topic, and I think the final answer is: Call California Natural and ask what it is. They will often have a different number than that which is indicated on their website. It appears to fluctuate.

California Naturals was reformulated sometime this year, so the dogfoodanalysis site is out of date. :(

CN L&R is over 2.44% calcium by dry matter basis. That's higher than I would be comfortable with.. (edited to add - for puppies - older puppies and adults should be fine)

Maybe the dogfoodanalysis website is posting minimum levels and CN is posting actual levels? Or maybe dogfoodanalysis has outdated information? There are threads here discussing calcium levels of CN Lamb and Rice and that it is generally considered too high for a large breed puppy.

Thanks guys.
Looks like I need to stick with Chicken & Rice, which is too bad since the Lamb & Rice is more nutrient rich and easier for me to get ahold of.

If you are referring to kcal/kg, notice that the reformulation also resulted in a big hit to the caloric density of the L&R - down to 3694 kcal/kg from the old 4247 listed on the bag. The C & R is now a bit higher.

I can tell you first hand conversations from Natura about this issue..

They think it is perfectly ok.. It changes from each production run..

My pup comes from a top breeder in N.E. and has good genetics and parents cleared for hips and elbows, etc.. She feeds all her dogs Cal Nat Lamb Adult at 4 months old... If your dogs parentage is at question I would use Innova Lg. Breed puppy.

Dr. Belfield, the man who helped design Cal Nat Products , has a product called Mega C Plus , which helps form good collagen supported joints...my breeder also recommends that product to all her puppy buyers..

Another controversy is whether Labradors are actually LG. BREED. The studies that show Calcium levels a problem for dogs like Great Danes..

My pup Satch looks great, is healthy, and I could not ask more from a food...

Hm, that's very interesting, thank you for your input on this.

Can you tell me what the Brand name is for the Mega C Plus? I haven't heard of that one but might be interested in checking into it.

For me personally, the calcium levels are still an issue whether or not Labs are considered "large breed" since my puppy is a mix and I STRONGLY suspect that what he's mixed with IS large breed.
