I am looking to upgrade from my Olympus point and shoot digital. I am tired of not ever getting any good action shots due to the shutter delay. What would you suggest? Is the Canon EOS Rebel Xti a good choice? Is it easy to learn how to use it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.:D

I think you're going to find a lot of members here recommending the XTi. It's a fantastic camera and very easy to learn and use. Very fast frame rate and has had very good reviews for the most part. If you do look into this camera try and find a body only and buy a lens separate. I feel you're better off saving the money you would spend on the kit lens and getting something a little better for a small investment.

Thanks, Shayne. I guess it's what I am looking for. The website I was looking on has the body only and the kit option. Thanks for the tip.

Sure.

Do your research though. There are lots of good cameras out there but I'm partial to the Canons. I've had three now and they have all been excellent cameras.

Have fun.

Rebels are excellent consumer cameras, but I wouldn't say the frame rate is "very fast." 3fps is good but not great.

Very true, but relative to price I've found it to be satisfactory. Maybe "fast" would have been a better description. :thumb4:

For most people, 3 fps is plenty and the burst rate will be up there too. All my cameras are 3fps and I have no problem getting the shots I want.

If you want really fast fps, I would suggest the Canon 1Ds MKIII ;) (I think it's 5fps, burst rate of 60 shots) ... but that's just me (and my dream camera :o: ) ONLY $7000 without lens!

Seriously, If you have a Best Buy or similar store (Ritz camera?) go and hold a few different cameras. Read up on the Canon and Nikons in your price range so you know what they offer and get a feel for what you would like to use. I've read a lot of times where someone wants camera X only to find out it was to big for their hands or it's to small because they have big hands ... even to heavy to lug around.

Also, you may be able to find a left over or refurbed camera (older model?) for a better price at one of the better online camera retailers.

I got a XTi last spring and all I can say is, I LOVE IT! It has been very easy to use and learn.

I like Nikons and Canons, but when I went to the store to see what would fit me I decided I liked the Canon Rebel a lot more :) (it felt smaller and fit in my hands better). My friend just got a Canon 5D and its awesome!

I decided that at this time I didn't want a dslr. It wasn't the money because my Canon G9 cost slightly more than the Rebel did at the time (the Rebel was on sale).

I really looked hard at what I wanted to be able to do. I wanted to be able to add an external flash, to shoot video and most of all, to learn more. I remember what it was like lugging an slr and the accessories around and decided that for now, I didn't want to do that. Someday I'll get the dslr I want but until then, I'm quite happy with the G9.

If you're considering the Rebel, wait a few weeks and the newest model (Xsi) will be out. Slightly higher FPS (3.5) not going to make a huge difference, but still a slight upgrade. Other differences- larger LCD screen, 2 more megapixels, Live View, new viewfinder, and a few other things.

The price difference shouldn't be significant so if you're in the market you might want to play with both of these cameras before making a decision.

If you go with a body + lens, the Xsi comes with a nicer lens (built in IS- image stabilization).

Happy shopping :)

Don't know what you were thinking of spending on a dSLR but another thought may be to find a 30D or even a 20D. Older camera models but an upgrade in models from the Rebel line and the prices are pretty good at a few of the top online retailers and seems they still have some available. (B & H Photo and Adorama)

The differences from one upgrade to the next per model usually isn't significant whereas from model to model is a big step. From experience ... For my use, the 20D and even the 30D never seemed worth the cost of the upgrade from my 10D (the 40D is another story but that came 5 years later).

Just my :2cents: !
