View Full Version : Canadian Geese aggression
EllenS40 10-08-2003, 12:01 PM Does anyone know...
do Male Canadian Geese ever charge or peck people? Sometimes when I am on a run with Big Boy they are about 50 taking up the whole trail for 20 yards or more. I slow down and try to go around but it seems the big male(s) want to come after me. They don't even phase Big Boy-no chasing, no barking, good behavior; but to me they look about 30 lbs and aggressive. Should I just run by quickly without eye contact or tip toe around or what? (This happens a lot on the trails nearby)Sometimes they seem to even want to go after the kids on bikes. 9yes, you could say I'm chicken of geese)
98ramtough 10-08-2003, 01:10 PM I believe usually the male will be agressive if there are no gozlings (sp¿), and if there are gozzlings present the female will be aggressive. If the geese are not moving when you come through you should notify the park ranger to relocate or remove them. Around here they are such a hassel they end up removing (shooting) them...
abbie's momma 10-08-2003, 02:36 PM We have major problems with snow geese in wheat fields and fallow rice fields. But in town there are several canadians on the golf courses. They haven't caused any harm to anyone I know, they just get in the way sometimes. I haven't heard of any agression except for what Ram said.:)
Henneberry 10-19-2003, 02:21 PM We get lots of geese around here too. In the summer they ruin our beaches with dung and pollute our water so we can't go swimming. I wonder how they taste compared to Turkey ? Hmmmmmm....
abbie's momma 10-20-2003, 09:54 AM They're pretty good cooked the right way. Except for the snow geese, we think they're nasty!
Mattman 11-05-2003, 09:29 PM we have lake in town and the geese are a big problem. the game and parks have been removing some. If the game and parks dont get them most of us goose hunters get them in the feilds.
Run right the geese and they will move. If one chases you rase your hands high and make lots of noise.
98ramtough 11-06-2003, 09:08 AM A few years back the geese were so bad around here in the parks they let hunters setup right outside of the parks on the river, and then chased all the geese out of the park. Man was that a sight, I bet over 200 geese got shot within like 10 minutes. There was downed geese everywhere in the river.

Hunting season has started here and thee are lot of geese coming in but we can't pattern them out . A coworker is going out 11/07/03 to set a pit up. I will not be doing to much now until after deer hunting is over, openning day of rifle is 11/15/03

Man, you ought to be up here in northern Minnesota. The rifle opener is tomorrow and I think the population of my tiny little town has tripled. :D
abbie's momma 11-07-2003, 08:27 AM Rifle season started today here in Arkansas. Yessss! My husband is gone til Tuesday! Just kidding, I miss him already. We had a couple groups of snow geese fly over our house this morning. Jason has started scouting for duck season already!

We bow hunt, so we're done for the year. However, we hunker down because it just sounds like the hunters are within 200 feet of the house. It's kind of spooky. The dogs are bummed. They are all decked out in blaze orange and have to stay right by the house. There is much pouting going on.
:)
We, too, dislike the Canadian geese because they flock into the pond area by the hundreds and are VERY aggressive. You take your life into your own hands down there, sometimes.

abbie's momma 11-07-2003, 12:53 PM Jason has tried to get into bowhunting and likes it really well. When it starts though he is still in the middle of rice and soybean harvest.

Most of our poor soybean farmers lost everything this year, due to the drought in Minnesota. The corn did okay, just not as big as usual.
We are lucky because bow hunting overlaps rifle. So, we can still hunt after the rifle season starts, in certain areas. We were lucky to get four this year, including two bucks (a 7 point and a 6 point) which will feed us for two years, easily.
abbie's momma 11-07-2003, 01:41 PM Rice has done very well this year. Soybeans are ok, but the prices are good. We've been lucky this year, but the cotton farmers are hurting, they weren't through picking until Dec last year, and it was almost that way this year. Too much rain and too cool temps at the wrong time of the year!
Mattman 11-07-2003, 05:25 PM The crop here in Nebraska have done well Beet ,beans, potatos, are above average. Corn is not done because of the snow we got. There is alot still up and so it giong to hard for all the hunting we do here.
Mattman 12-05-2003, 07:31 PM Back from hunting and thanksgiving. Deer huntng was all light we all got a deer. Dad got a small 3x3white tail, uncle nice 5x5 muley, brother and I got two muley does.
