Any one know anything about this food? My natural dog store recommended it...the owner said it is fabulous for a dog. Jackson has been on it for 4 days now, we are mixing it with his old food Iams for a week or so to get him used to it. He seems to love it....

I put in another thread regarding him being constipated...we don't know if it is related.

Canidae is a great food. Its right up there with the rest of the higher quality foods.

How long should I allow for an adjustment period? I know sometimes it can take a dog while to get used to it....

most people introduce the new food gradually.

new food old food
25% - 75% two days
50% - 50% two days
75% - 25% two days
100% - 0% by the end of the week

good luck! :)

how much is the new food costing you?

Okay good, we have been in par then with mixing it.

I got him a medium sized bag to start with (they were out of the small) & it was $20.99...I can't remember how much that is. But, I know it wasn't that much more than IAMS was....and it is a good food from what I hear. I think the large is $31.99.....he gobbles it up.

We feel like we'll pay more for J to be healthy and feeling good...on the Iams he is having anal gland issues and goes #2 like 4-6 times/day. I was told the new food would help both, hopefully.

I have a friend that breeds Golden Retreiver's and highly remmended it. I started introducing it to Lucas (3 months old today) about a week ago and we all love it.
I have noticed a few things already. His fur is softer, his #2's are more formed and he is not going as much and he is not as hungry. I have been mixing about half and half with his old food brand his old brand is gone.

:) Anyway so far so good.

my lab, emma, is fed canidae dry dog food too. we switched to it after experimenting with several other dog foods, all of which she showed an allergic reaction to. since on the canidae, her allergies arent as bad. but with spring back, her allergies tend to kick in again. at least i know, however, that its not her food causing it. which given me piece of mind.

Is J a puppy. We were told to feed canidae from our breeder, his first vet appointment he had the worst yeast infection in both ears the vet had ever seen. Also his coat was dull and he had dandruff. The breder had fed this food from the beggining. He needed more fatty acids and the vet said the infection was so bad it must have been from a food allergy. We switched him to a good puppy food and he has not had one infection since then, also his coat is very shiny now and no dandruff. There were several other people on this board who had the same expereince with yeasty ears on the canidae. I noticed no more poops over the canidae either. Your pup may be fine, all dogs are different just keep and eye on his dadruff and in his ears

Our GSD also had nasty ear problems and stinky, slimey poops on Canidae. We didn't know at that time that she had allergies to yeasts. I know many people who feed Canidae and their dogs do fine on it, though.

Jackson is 10.5 months. I thought he had an ear infection this week, but it turns out they were clean as a whistle and they think it must be allergy related...(pollen and so on). So he is on Prednisone for 15 days. He seems to love the food so far and I have noticed he is going #2 less, smaller sized. We'll try it for a month and then see how he is doing. The other one my natural food guy recommend was Wellness....but he thought we shoudl give this one a fair shot---up to a month. Oh & J has an awesome coat, a little dry skin---but that is actually subsiding with the winter leaving us. He gets dermcaps for his coat each day.

Thanks for your thoughts, I welcome them!
