Does anyone feed both the grain free along with their normal food? My boys do well on the Canidae Lamb & Rice, but I was debating trying out the Grain Free. Or, still feeing the L&R one meal/day and the grain free for the 2nd meal/day. When I got a bag of their food last week, I saw that my local dealer is selling the grain free now. She gave me a handful of sample bags of the Grain Free Salmon and the boys seemed to love it. Of course...they are Labs, so them loving it doesn't mean whole much...they'd eat moldy apples if they were handed to them! LOL! One of my boys is a seizure dog and also has allergy issues, so I think the grain free may be a real benefit for him....just not sure if I want to feed it 100% of the time.
So, basically just wondering what people's opinions are on feeding the grain free alternated with the normal L&R.
Thanks!

I know people rotate within the same brand of kibble for example Innova Red Meat and Innova with the chicken/turkey. But im not sure about grain free and non grain free?? I don't really see why not hopefully others here will input!!! If one of your dogs has allergies i would maybe switch him over to grain free only.. sorry im not much help:confused:

Yeah....that's really the main reason I was looking at the grain-free...I think Logan would probably do better on it. I've probably been feeding the Canidae L&R for about 2 years now and his seizure frequency dropped. Also, his allergies are much better. I think dropping the gluten, corn, soy, dairy, etc really did help him. He's still itchy sometimes, but doesn't lick his little legs raw like he used to. Maybe going grain-free would help him get even healthier. Our black boy, Mac, could probably eat anything and be totally fine. They're so different! :)

Sounds great! i would just go with the grain free permanently then... I use Orijen which is grain free and she does so well on it. Just remember you will have to feed less on the grain free. just compare the cals in the old and the new food and see how much less you will have to feed. They may also have loose stools from the initial switch for a few weeks and then if still loose then you may be feeding too much. Switch over a week or so slowly mixing more of the grain free and less of the old food. I switched cold turkey from california natural lamb and rice to orijen with no problems. i shouldn't have done that but she did fine.

Why not rotate them, feed one food for a couple of months and then rotate to the other? If you're feeding 2 different foods at the same time and you begin to have issues, how will you know which food is causing the issues? Even if it isn't an ingredient issue you could get a bad bag (batch, storage etc.) but which bag? Now what will you feed them, an untried third food? I think you get my drift.
Even though these foods are grain free they both contain carbohydrates and different carbohydrates at that. Carbohydrates can be troublesome, more so then meat and now you'll be feeding a conglomerate of them. I would recommend you try one food at at time.
Is it the 34% protein in the grain free that bothers you? Dogs can assimilate 34% protein and this isn't in excess.
Grains are carbohydrates and because a food is grain free doesn't mean it's carbohydrate free.
